I tweeted Jeff Gordon from HTC earlier and got this back for confirmation

1. if I purchased the Verizon u11 am I getting the unlocked model? 2. Is it LTE only (no CDMA) radios.

1. Yes, buy unlocked for Verizon support. 2. Yes, LTE only -- Verizon is in the process of sunsetting its CDMA network.
Interesting....... but "in the process" really means nothing and is SO nebulous. What, 1 year, 2 years, 6 months? I would not buy a phone now based on that hope and have it have limitations. By the time it happens, a far better choice would be out.

Does that mean cdma may be possible at some point? Don't know what sunsetting means

...just wow! Presumptuous bastards! Even if CDMA was being killed off in 6 Months (which I doubt), thats still 6 months without 3g and 1x in many areas across the country!
I Live in Miami, Fl (large city) and even here there's many area with 3g coverage. Miami like many cities are always expanding and i live in a new western part of the city that is not yet covered in 4g.
Thx HTC

So, people who live in areas where they see it falling back to 3G at times won't get any service? If you ordered through HTC's website using PayPal and never got any confirmation email, how would you go about canceling your order? Chat? Lot's of useful info in here and it's sad that there is no CDMA. Oh well.

I wonder how much 3g is out there though. That article says it's almost gone and I would agree. We are at the beach on vacation and we took a boat out and I had LTE for a good bit out on water then it dropped to 3g for only like a split second and lost all service. I'm confident the no cdma won't be an issue

Going to test this out in Colorado.
Everyone will have to evaluate their usage and travel patterns themselves.
It does look like this is the bleeding edge of future policy. I have no problem trying it out, now.

Mine is coming today.

If VZW's kruftware installs and prevents me from tethering or rooting, I am sending it back. Too bad, since it isn't HTC's fault. But, that malfeasance won't stand.

Switched my Verizon SIM from my old M8 to my new unlocked U11 that arrived yesterday. 4G and SMS texting work (although for some reason replying from the pull-down notification pane doesn't), but the device can't make a phone call.

Trying to activate on VZW's website with the IMEI yields this error message:
"There was an error with one of our systems and we're working on it now. We're sorry for the inconvenience. Please try again in a few minutes. Try a Different Device"

Very annoyed with Verizon's stubbornness in this department.

I just talked to HTC for a while and they are fully aware of this issue she said it would be a week for them to get it resolved with Verizon.
