so as of right now out of the box i purchased the U11 Unlocked version put my verizon sim in it and ..... I get 4g but I cannot make calls it says voice service is blocked I can receive text messages and if i send them they say unsent but go through and if i make calls it automatically hangs up the call so time to start tinkering :)
I'm having the same exact problems. Verizon tech support is telling me the only solution is waiting until they've updated my specific IMEI onto the list of supported devices. Any updates on your end?

nope HTC told me a week. to be honest i don't think we will be able to get it running unless we get s-off and flash a verizon radio you can always do the *#*#4636#*#* and try different configurations to get it to work but I tried everything and verizon is blocking it from making calls.

based on what I'm reading here I think I'm going to give this phone a pass as a Verizon user unlocked model does not have enough benefits to warrant not having 3G or 1X where necessary not to mention these issues with not being able to make phone calls or have visual voicemail. no way. no phone is worth that.

Btw - 3g a still very real & a very needed service. I even experienced it this weekend in Chicago in the city at some friends classic brick home, you just couldn't get 4G which means I would have gotten nothing with this HTC phone - and that's just not acceptable.

Not making phone calls is an issue between HTC and Verizon--someone forgot to send a list, or at least the full list. (Mine worked without issue even though the U11 shows up as being a "Non-VZW Device" in my online account.) I actually submitted my phone to my Account Manager (business plan) and they are going to see if they can correct the model name, etc. online! :)

As for 3G, you may believe it's still very real/needed, and I completely get that. I do have to say, however, the U11 seems highly improved from any other phone I've used with regard to LTE/4G signal. In my house/area, I have some bad spots for LTE--basement, rural areas where friends live, etc. With my older phones (HTC 10, M9, M8, M7 and so on), they would switch over to 3G at the drop of a hat. I have not yet experienced a loss of signal with my U11 and I was even at my parent's house/area all day Saturday--they have horrible dead spots and it powered through like a champ.

For Visual Voicemail, I have a workaround for that, just using YouMail for now. I'm hoping someone can figure out how to "port" over the VVM app that Verizon has on the unlocked U11. The frustrating part is that I see the VVM app in my App Manager, but it's not in the app drawer.

EDIT: I've noticed better battery life... not sure if it's the no CDMA radio or if it's the other phone upgrade/specs, but Compared to the HTC 10, it's really noticeable.

I think once the Verizon system is updated/fixed or whatever, the vvm will appear...it's definitely part of the unlocked ROM

The problem is not being able to get the App to initialize since VZW doesn't control the software on the U11. How does the phone know to use VVM and not the basic voicemail?

My rep just had my online (business) account reflective of the HTC U11, so it no longer says "Non-VZW Device". I have access to add/remove features and will try to remove VVM then add it back, though I doubt it will change anything.

Interestingly enough my VZW rep did say that there is no CDMA on the phone. He also said he heard it was a very nice phone.

I did bork my previously-working Onlocked-on-Verizon U11.

I was flashing the new Magisk ROMs available here. I don't know what stage de-registered my device. Verizon shows my MEID and SIM number and a good status centrally. However, I cannot get VoLTE calling to work. Calls are "limited." But, mobile data over LTE does function.

I'm not blaming the ROMs. Obviously I did something. But, returning the U11 may now be my only choice.

What seems to be working is popping in a SIM from a phone that has the Advanced Calling feature enabled. Since the U11 is LTE only, Advanced Calling is what allows it to do phone calls over LTE (and data simultaneously, by the way).

I've tried that, still no luck.

I just went back to Verizon they tested it by taking a SIM out of a demo S8 and testing phone calls, it worked. They then took a brand new SIM out of the box, loaded my account info on it and tried to make phone calls., still nothing. Verizon has confirmed my U11 is now showing on my account as an accepted device, I can receive and send text, I have 4G LTE connectivity, still no ability to make phone calls.

I tried that. It didn't fix it.

I tried OTA_OCEAN_WHL_N71_SENSE90GP_NA_Gen_Unlock_1.11.617.3_R2-1.11.617.1_release_5055151q9hr4htswf4pbx4.zip

Neither helped. Called Verizon to make sure I wasn't locked out from their side. Popped the SIM back in my G3 and everything perfect.

I couldn't find any flashable binary that would make it register on VZW again. Mobile data flows. Verizon selected in Networks. "Emergency Calling Only" unfortunately.

According to Jeff Gordon, Global Director of PR for HTC, "Verizon is in the process of sunsetting CDMA. U11 is fully certified for Verizon's network, but no CDMA required." https://twitter.com/urbanstrata/status/874791870190166018

I agree that as of right not, 3G and 1X is very real and very functional right now. Every area that CDMA covers doesn't also have 4g/LTE. I read an article saying that Verizon was in the process of converting the 1X and 3g bandwidth into 4g/LTE. It theorized that CDMA would be completely 'off' by 2019. By the time that happens, should HTC be around, that's a good 2 phones down the line.

As much as I love HTC, this is a deal breaker for me. And it might not even be HTC's fault. If verizon didn't or isn't requiring CDMA, I understand htc not including it. I wonder if the OP5 or the Essential might be 'compatible' with Verizon like the U11. But I can't have a phone that can't make calls where ever I am. Pass.

I suspect something is not being triggered...

ie...on the Sprint model, without being activated, there are many settings that are missing, the boot animation shows the stock htc boot, etc....once the phone has been activated, the sprint boot animation is shown, additional settings are present etc.

so it sounds like this trigger is not taking place for the Verizon users, causing the vvm app not to show in the app drawer, among other things

I would only trust the official exe from HTC...the OTA zip most likely would not fix your issue...you need a RUU that will write to all partitions...and being s-on, if your version was already at 1.11.617.3, downgrading to the 1.11.617.1 zip should of failed.
