Unlocking Sprint U11

I'm considering switching from Sprint to one of the 'Budget carriers' out there, and in researching to see if my phone would work, which it will, I found a thread from a few years ago about unlocking the U11. Rather than necro-posting in that thread, I figured I start a new post. My question regarding unlocking it is does anyone know if going through the unlock process will cause any issues with my current Sprint service until such time as I actually change carriers?
