So you got the phone no reason to send you a google phone. Has nothing. What you are doing is scamming. If you say something is wrong with the device but nothing is why would google have to send you a new phone?

I bought it through Verizon to trade in my phone. I was under the impression that I could unlock the bootloader, provided my phone came with 7.1.0. However it took them like two and a half months to ship, so it came with 7.1.1
Yeah I figured you might have used an upgrade. You are locked for good so live with it or sell it. Don't bother Google I'm sure they have enough real problems. Locked bootloader is fine, there is no reason to unlock it.

That depends. If he lies it's a scam. If he levels with them and begs it's not. He will not get a Google device, imo, if he is honest. My only worry is that at some point they will catch on and those with real problems will be in trouble and overly scrutinized. I think it's time to end Verizon unlocking discussions when they take this turn.

Just because a few duds talk about abusing the system is no reason the topic should be ended, that is what the report option is for. You have a choice of not to participate, but to ban the topic just because of a few duds is just not in the best interest of this forum and its members.

That's where you're wrong. It's a reason to stop talking about it when it needs to be reported. I don't need to call daddy every time I see someone doing something inappropriate. You want to indulge this crap be my guest. But perhaps at some point you will realize that it's the good guys that suffer the consequences. This thread was not about gaming the system. Nor should it be. I didn't say ban the thread, just cut out the BS.

But you are right about one thing. It's my choice to participate or not. You see my decision.

You dont want to report but you will complain about it, ok really lol. That is what the report feature is intended for and what the moderators and xda want members to do, if you dont want to use it then you should not complain about it. By complaining about it your not helping at all.

Yes the good guys will suffer but yes once again the report option is for that to do something rather than just whine about. Its not crap its how members are suppose to stop fraudulent talk or activities using the report feature alerts the moderators so they can take quick action if need be. Its a shame that you want to post but are not willing to alert the moderators of fraudulent talk and say its your choice to not participate in reporting these violations as a good xda member would and is asked to.

I agree cutting out the bs is good but to post and complain is really bs on its own instead of using the report option instead of just posting and complaining.

Again you're wrong. Wow, you are batting 1000. There are times when adults can work things out without resorting to calling in the authorities. Don't you think that's a better way? If you feel you need to click a report button then by all means do so. I don't believe the OP had any intention of gaming the system, or let's just say I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. So there really is nothing to report here but just to be careful where you tread. You seem to have made this into a personal crusade about how XDA should operate. It's really not about that. And you basically agree with what I was saying so why make this into a vendetta?

The thread is unlocking Verizon it's been answered over multiple thread, multiple times. It's over and done. So before you go off on another rant maybe it's time to drop your objections and realize that it will not be unlocked once you update to 7.1.1. That is why the discussion should end and not because it should be reported. If I felt it went over the line then I'd report it. But it hasn't yet although you are treading on very thin ice. ;) Yes, now I'm done and you might want to follow the lead.

Oh wrong huh, so you say its wrong to follow xda rules and report violations just because you dont feel like it oh ok so you are proving your an upstanding member of xda by saying that.

This was not about the op you were complaining about people posting about things that are considered fraudulent where xda wants members to report those posts instead of posting and whining about them saying the thread should be banned because of a few members talking about things they shouldnt.

There was no vandetta you just tried to turn it in to one, it is and was all about how you complained that this thread should be banned over what some few members had talked about but instead of reporting them you chose to post and complain about them instead.

This thread is not done and is an ongoing thread. Weather it should be done or over with is not your call and you have the option to not participate. This thread has the interest of many xda members and weather it ends or not is not your choice or your decision in any way or form, once again if you do not like this thread you have the choice to click off.

And just exactly how do you know there will not be another unlock after 7.1.1 ???? Answer is you dont, your confusing your opinion with fact as that is only your opinion and nothing more.

This thread will not be ended because it is a valid thread just because you think it should be ended is once again only your opinion and not the opinion of the many and the thread is 100% legit and a couple members posting things that are not legal should be reported but its not just cause to ban this thread.

I"am treading on thin ice oh really, I"am not the one posting complaining about this thread and saying I chose not to report things to the moderators that xda rules say we should, that would be you.

Good we can all be done, point taken that instead of complaining about members posting things that are illegal that you are supposed to report them.

Very correct I never intended to game the system at all I just wanted to know if I could still unlock after I had already updated to make sure I didn't brick my phone lol... only real reason why I wanted to root it in the 1st place was to get rid of the new but ****ty android emotes cause they're trash and wish I could have the old ios ones back. Anytime I sent a text message to someone using the new emojis and their app doesn't support them they just show up as ??. or like a small little square in place of the emoji and it's kinda annoying that there's no backwards compatibility or let alone the option to be able to change the emojis without having root access..

It will always be greyed out you need to use depixel8 and I wouldn't reboot it in case it's already downloaded the update. Once it does your not getting it unlocked

When I enter fastboot oem unlocking it says fastboot not recognized command

Sent from my SM-G935U using XDA Free mobile app
Could be drivers not installed, maybe you don't have current SDK tools. Your might need to Google how to set up ADB and fastboot. It's not too hard but it's not exactly easy if you have never done it.
Edit. I believe that's the wrong command for pixel it's fastboot flashing unlock

You need fastboot flashing unlock I believe

If anyone is curious I received my 5" 128 GB silver Pixel yesterday and it was on 7.1. After booting and checking the version I immediately put it in airplane mode to prevent any downloading. Then became a developer, disabled automatic system updates, and enabled USB debugging. Connected to laptop and following instructions for dpixel8. Unlocked now running 7.1.2 stock. Can't decide if I even want to try custom or not. Is there really anything better? I'm coming from a just outside warranty bootlooping 6p that was on stock beta 7.1.2 and never rooted or custom rom installed.

Hello,

If you were happy on your N6P without Root, I don't see any reason to have Root on your Pixel... :)

Cheers...

So I'm not a fan of the "you did something weird to your phone, and we're going to remind you of it every time you turn it on" splash screen. Do I have to root to get rid of that? The only reason I made sure to unlock was to have the *ability* to root whenever I wanted (it's a VZW-bought device), because I think I should retain that ability even if I don't take advantage of it.

I don't think you can get rid of that just yet. The bright white one to call all aliens to earth screen pisses me off more. I got used to the other one, at least it doesn't blind you

Unlocking a Pixel from Google

Hey guys,
New to XDA. I've done some research of my own, but the reason I want an unlocked phone is the same as destruya1. I want to have the ability to unlock it if I ever want to, whether it be sooner or later. Now, as I said, I've done quite an amount of research on this, but maybe some of you can help me fill in the gaps  . I have chosen to buy the phone from Google for a number of reasons, but one of them being the boot loader is not encrypted (as it is with Verizon), so you're free to unlock it (you have to go through unlocking process on top of the phone being unlocked/encryption free, correct? I found that by doing this, you're able to have custom ROMs or download specific apps (I've seen some apps that say "only available on rooted phone" or "feature only available on rooted phone"). Also, it doesn't void Google's warranty if you do unlock the boot loader? At least I found an article called "The 5 Best Phones for Rooting & Modding" on Android Gadget Hacks that said so. Pretty sweet deal. So if I understand that correctly, if you try boot loading you're phone and it goes wrong/doesn't work (which from what I've seen there are work arounds, so it shouldn't) it'll be covered by Google and they can replace/fix it?

Anyway, the questions above are ones that I would kind of like confirmed, but not necessarily essential (Maybe the warranty one is pretty important. I would like to have that confirmed if someone knows). So, my main question is, does buying the phone from Google (not the encrypted Verizon one) give me the option to unlocked the boot loader whenever I want, regardless of what version I'm on (7.1.1 ... etc.)? And since I won't buy from Verizon, but I do want to stay with them, once I have the Google phone and sign it up with Verizon, will that then lock/encrypt it and I'll be unable to unlock the boot loader or can it still be unlocked (It would be ideal if I could wait to unlock it, as I've heard Pokemon Go doesn't work on unlocked phones and I don't know if I'm willing to give that up just yet :( )? Finally, if it can be unlocked either way, if I do unlock it at whatever point, can I still stay with the official Google OS and just have the option of changing to a custom ROM whenever and/or just getting custom apps/features or would it force me to be off the official OS and have me use something else (as I said, custom ROM, which I believe is like a developer-built OS)?

Sorry, I know it's a long post, but any and all help would be much appreciated! :)

Hey,

Don't worry, we have all been there at some point...

Verizon bootloader is not "encrypted". It just can't be unlocked as Google play version.

You can unlock anytime you want, regardless of tue OS version on a Google Nexus/Pixel phone.

Unlocking the bootloader erase/wipe all datas on the device. Just like when you received it "brand new". But when you'll had new datas, those will still be encrypted for security measures...

You're right, once unlocked you can Root your phone if you want. Just read a lot and see if you can really benefit from Root. There are as of today many alternatives to the old Root apps. :good:

You can run a custom ROM with or without Root.

If at some point you want, you can just got back to full stock, relock the bootloader and use it just like you never modified your phone.

If something bad happens, like a hardware issue, just flash stock, lock the bootloader and send your device back for repair/exchange.

Just be careful of being 100% stock if you want to relock the bootloader..! It doesn't void your warranty.

Using your device on Verizon network won't lock it at all. You can even flash Verizon specific builds and have it unlocked.

You can run apps looking for unlocked bootloader or Root like Pokemon go, Mario run and even use Android Pay. You'll have to hide those to your apps using some tricks

You can go back and forth from stock to custom ROM. A custom ROM usually add some features and remove what advanced users see as "bloatware".

Check the development forum and check by yourself. I advise you to read a lot before you start messing with.your phone. It's really fun to play with, but you can also damage it if you do it the wrong way.

Learn how to use adb and fastboot command line. Get used to the stock firmware flashing process, ROM install, mods, etc...

There is always someone to help in case you need by the way. But the more you search, read and find infos by yourself, the more you'll be confident modifying your device.

Let me know if I missed something... :)

Cheers...
