yes that's what I understood too as twrp would need decryption to flash magisk
that's why I installed magisk by patching - mine is 15.3 - if it finds the data partition encrypted it will let it that way
cleanslate also doesn't need decryption in order to be flashed - that's why I used the pin stuff, because otherwise I understood (might be wrong) that twrp will decrypt or try to automatically
but twrp for Android 8.0 should manage to decrypt data... or not?

If I look at post #179 I would say no. maybe twrp build 8.0 can work with the decrypted partition (if you format) but thinking you only can install cleanslate from external card (as specified in this thread or the cleanslate one, my guess is it can't)

By using fastboot boot command, I'm getting black screen. Does anyone know how to sort it out? I want to boot it to be able to extract boot and recovery as it is HTC-GCC revision.

I will be grateful for any help you can provide.

In a lot of cases that does not work. You would need to hunt down at least a stock recovery for your region/cid and base version. Look around on the forum

@kuchivas

It states in the op that this version of TWRP cannot decrypt /data

OP, as this is a trebble device, have you added support for backing up /vendor?

In order to modify system, fstab in /vendor would need to be modified to remove DM verity, the same applies to removing forced encryption

Thanks for the support. Can you create a rom for U11+ ?

Someone wakes up leedroid :p
Anyway can we root the u11+ without flashing twrp? Will you still have to unlock the bootloader?
Download magisk manager, get the boot.img from your device. Patch it with magisk manager and flash through bootloader/download. And yes you have to unlock the bootloader for this, like for everything else too, regarding custom stuff

Hi,I have a question with root magisk this method.
My device is root perfect but it's safety net not pass.
How to fix safetynet pass on MagiskV16.0
Thanky you.
Instead of that using the closed source SuperSU, use open source Magisk to root, and without touching the recovery partition. Follow this procedure:

1. Download http://fotadl-az.htc.com/secure/OTA_...bbi6tc9m38.zip
2. Extract firmware.zip.
3. Extract boot.img from firmware.zip from step 2 and transfer to the /sdcard.
4. Install Magisk Manager and select Beta channel
5. Click install and choose to use "patch the stock boot image" method. It will browse you to /sdcard. Choose the boot.img from step 3. After its done, it will give you path of patched boot image.
6. Transfer the patched boot image from step 5 to PC using 'adb pull'
7. Boot the phone into download mode and flash the patched boot image.
8. Reboot and enjoy!!
