@nkk71 not sure how this happened. I am on your test TWRP and followed your instructions to the t and have everything working perfect. I helped out the clean slate kernel thread yesterday and got an awesome kernel working. I remember after flashing yesterday the last kernel build I entered my pin on boot. So today I didn't reboot and I installed short cutter app by leedroid. I enable wifi calling and power menu and reboot menu tiles. I then tried the reboot menu tiles (apm) it didn't show. So I cleared everything and tried again. The apm should up this time and I selected reboot to recovery which worked just fine and booted to recovery. I did the usual in TWRP hit cancel and then hit keep read only and the. Rebooted to system. As I was waiting to enter in my pin to decrypt... It never showed. Then I rebooted from the short cutter tile again. Regular reboot this time and still didn't have to enter a pin and then I rebooted from the HTC stock apm and didn't ask for pin on boot.

That happened to me too a few times especially when I used a lot of adb reboot recovery, the file describing the need to enter pin changed or so. Didn't care much, but this got me a twrp too that decrypts data without code. All this on u11
I'm not sure what would happen now if you boot to recovery. May be problematic if it decrypts by itself

Don't know which file needs change or correction, but it's stored at first setup entering a pin, asks whether booting should require pin or not.
The partition secret key is then only accessed after entering a correct pin.
If you set up without that the data is still encrypted but automatically allows decryption without user authentication

Just noticed that HTC Dev only lists the regular U11, is this intended? Unlocked the 10 without any hiccups, just wondering. Thanks in advance for answering.

Hi Guys,

I can CONFIRM that my U11+ is fully-rooted via Magisk with bootloader unlocked. The unlock process is the same as the U11 (U11+ not listed on HTCDev), followed by the TWRP image provided. I did have to wipe and format /data in order for TWRP to see the partition without asking me for decryption password, followed by the Magisk flash to gain root.

Just for curiosity-sakes, I did try to flash a standard U11 Oreo Dual-SIM ROM (Viper 2.1.0) to see what would happen, since it's been said that the hardware are "identical"--apparently not. Phone would not boot as proof-of-concept, in which I then proceeded to simply do a RUU to restore it back. I keep the 2Q4DIMG.zip RUU file saved on the SD card for incidents like this.

Has anyone tried to tweek this phone or attempt to port any ROMs yet? I just wished they had a Nougat OS/Firmware, as Oreo is still pretty new without many tweeks (i.e. Xposed, etc).

Since Sunshine just released their Oreo S-Off, I will give that a try and report back (it's confirmed working on my U11, which allowed me to flash the firmware back to Nougat to allow some time for Oreo to mature).

Loving this phone so far. :)

Is there a way to do this without formatting /data?

I really don't like to run the phone with encryption disabled (which I assume happens when /data is formatted).
Flashing twrp and having it be able to read internal storage requires decryption.

looks like you can flash magisk without using twrp after skimming the OP though

yeah, the first time you boot it somewhere along the process it will be encrypted after the formatting.
So next time it supposedly will be a need for decryption in twrp as well

@nkk71: forgive the newbie....:D He does not know your contributions to XDA. Please don't let a single person's post determine your path. You are bigger than that man!
I can't believe you are gone man! Gone too early! You will be remembered for all you did around here on XDA! Your awesome technical contributions and your generosity in helping others!

RIP nkk71!

problem with OTA

Hi !

Tried to make a root and eventually got a bootlap. Recovered the phone using the firmware from the memory card file 2Q4DIMG_OCEAN_M_DUGL_O80_SENSE90GP_HTC_Europe_1.10.401.23_Radio_8998-002772-1711021849_release_516987_signed_2_4.zip .
I installed the Magisk, patched the boot, everything was fine. An update came, but it takes off by 24%.
With manual update in the recovery I see the following picture. Now boot stock and relocked
Help please

UPD:
install 2Q4DIMG.zip from SD and after that in Recovery mode install Ota update

Here is a workaround. Leave TWRP in read only mode. Flash Magisk, do not reboot format data, reboot, now it will work just fine.

I use stock recovery. For root was Magisk + patched boot. Befor OTA update I flash stock boot

Despite the stock boot and stock recovery, the update did not take place until the download RUU via the SD card

Same for me when I updated to 1.24.400.2.
Stock recovery. Rooted with Magisk. Restore stock boot and reboot before OTA.
Got error at 24% of updating process saying the system partition was modified.
Need to flash back RUU and do OTA update afterward.

It will be quite troublesome if need to repeat all these for next update.

That's what bothers me, that I'll have to re-configure the phone. Of course there is the Titanium Backup, but I still wanted to avoid such a problem for the future.

By the way, from the update I took out the latest versions of boot and recovery using decrypt tool
