SuperSu for ROOT.

Not sure how so many people are having issues with the key combination, it is very easy to do. I have updated to Oreo and have unlocked, installed twrp and rooted it successfully first try.

1. Hold both volume down and power until you see the first logo
2. Let go of power while still holding volume down
3. Press and hold down power again, along with volume down
4. You will be on a white screen
5. Choose yes and yes, you have to do this erase procedure twice
6. After the second erase you should now see the twrp splash screen

That is exactly how i did it and it was successful on the first try. I have tried same procedure again 4 times since and have don 2 of my friends phones, all worked perfectly first time :)

@mauley
Hello.
Which version of SuperSu did you use to root ... ????
I tried with this SuperSU-v2.82-201705271822.zip and everything is blocked. I could not put it down, I had to disconnect the battery.

Thank you.

I used Magisk to root and would recommend that over SuperSU.

There is a guide for how to root in the Q&A forum. It is the stickied post in that forum.

One quick question: Can I flash this TWRP and will it work also in Nougat or is it only for Oreo ?

Thanks
mkpxccl
You can use it in Nougat while waiting for Oreo update.

It's just a newer version of TWRP (3.2.1 instead of 3.1.1) that is also Oreo compatible:

Flashed fine from within TWRP. Now waiting for the new Oreo, I'm running the Korea ROM on my unlocked US998.
It would be good to have it even if you plan to stay on Nougat because it's a newer version of TWRP.

I flashed the Oreo recovery on my 10f and then booted into it using the command.
Then made a backup checking all checkmarks, then rebooted back into recovery using the button within TWRP,
then rebooted back to system. Afterwards i was curious if i still had recovery sticking. Turns out it didn't(erasing.. erased- back to new). Now i'd like to restore from the backup but when i select the backup it tells me no partitions selected. I do see the option but i can't tap on it or see any partitions.
Downloading stock EU Oreo for now.

Edit: Turns out it showed me 12 gigs of system image/data backed up but actually it didn't backup anything. Could have something to do with it not being able to decrypt system image and mounting as read only. I did select my SD card so that shouldn't have been the issue.

as far as i encountered twrp cannot decrypt partitions on v30 even if i enter the CORRECT password or pattern.
i just disable decryption from the start to not have any headaches later :)

How do i do that though. Flash no-verity-opt-encrypt-6.0.zip on stock 10f? Or is there a more sensible risk free way?

Fortunately I had already disassembled earlier to replace the display and now I'm waiting for the new cover battery and the adhesive to request it.

It went well.
you can force reboot the device by holding volume down and power button :)

first you need to FORMAT data partition, not just WIPE it then flash no-verity-opt-encrypt-6.0.zip.

I know all the functions of the buttons.
He did not want to go out, he was looping.
All because of trying to install SuperSu.
if you are fast enough you can enter bootloader mode by holding power and vol down and when the screen goes off, hold vol down and insert usb cable STOPPING the phone from bootlooping and enter in bootloader :)
i do this when i am too lazy to enter in rom to power it off.

I got the stock 20 EU Oreo downloaded, it would be great if someone would guide me step by step to get from 10f Nougat to rooted twrped Oreo.

From SGC Marcus debloated ROM instructions
"(FLASH INSTRUCTIONS

Make sure your /data isnt encrypted though. I dont know how it will react if the ROM finds an encrypted /data partition, as I disabled it alltogether (****ed it up for me, even though forcencryption was off)

1. Download ROM + (potential) hotfix

2. Copy it on your sdcard/internal memory

3. Boot into TWRP

4. Make a Backup of Boot/System/Data/Cache

5. Wipe /system, /data, /cache, /dalvik/cache in TWRP

6. Flash .zip file(s))"

At what point do i flash rtcd disabler and encryption disabler zips..
I'm planning to be safe and flash Stock Oreo using LGUP and doing the TWRP root afterwards doing Magisk

[emoji53] I'm kind of confused here.

I've already been bitten by encryption and failed TWRP backup once.

Scrap that. Uppercut with stock 20d is not working for anyone. (Ref. Stock 20d Oreo thread)

I just need a way to update to Oreo without burning the ships(backing up/ disabling encryption) i guess ill go the debloated oreo way, or maybe wait a little more to get a more stable iteration.

i suggest you to flash a KDZ file using LG UP, assuming that you have H930 version (i do not know on what other v30 variants works)
LG UP + Uppercut
the firmware itself
twrp for oreo
magisk 16
encryption disabler
root checker disabler

flash oreo H93020d_00_OPEN_EU_OP_0326.kdz using LG UP and make sure that you checked REFURBISH
put phone in bootloader mode
flash twrp fastboot flash TWRP-3.2.1-joan-v0.1.img
boot twrp fastboot boot TWRP-3.2.1-joan-v0.1.img
swipe to allow modifications
select WIPE, then FORMAT DATA, then write yes
wipe cache, dalvik, data
flash magisk
flash encyprion disabler
flash root disabler
reboot

Over at the stock Oreo thread (ref autoprime's post) it says flashing Oreo closes some downgrading doors.

put phone in bootloader mode
flash twrp fastboot flash TWRP-3.2.1-joan-v0.1.img
boot twrp fastboot boot TWRP-3.2.1-joan-v0.1.img
swipe to allow modifications
select WIPE, then FORMAT DATA, then write yes
wipe cache, dalvik, data
flash magisk
flash encyprion disabler
flash root disabler
reboot
Would performing the above steps on my 10f Nougat get me root? And what about when it auto upgrades from 10f to 10v..11 firmware. Would i be loosing root then?

What difference between REFURBISH and UPGRADE ... ??
From the most negative experiences I had to overwrite OREO with LGUP.
I did not succeed with Uppercut, only the first time to move from Nougat to Oreo.
I had to create the "common" folder in LGUP, copy the common.dll DLL Version 1.0.31.9. Abandon Uppercut and launch LGUP.exe.
Only after this opraction I installed OREO with UPGRADE several times.

i didn't try to downgrade using KDZ but u can always downgrade using ZIP format roms, but why would you downgrade from oreo to nougat?
if u use the firmware i linked to you will have 20d, NOT 10f, 10v or 11, or whatever...

so what if you lose root?
you just flash magisk again :)

refurbish erases the entire phone, while upgrade does not. i STRONGLY recommend to use REFURBISH, always !

i am not a fan of dirty flashes... (i know that you might be lazy but it could save alot of time if you ever encounter problems after a dirty flash)
you should always do backups, erase, restore (titanium backup is the 2nd best purchase i did)

i am not ussing uppercut too, i am using the common dll, not even the oreo one :)
