the phone won't reboot into recovery.
Kurtn is spot on. Starting with the phone off, holding vol+ and power and home will boot the phone into recovery.

He also taught me something - I didn't know about the vol- and vol+ and power to shutdown after flashing! I was popping the battery out after successfully flashing the recovery o_O

Can secureboot be the problem?
No, the klte family doesn't implement that sort of thing, at least not secure-boot-style. There are some specific sub-models that are locked to carriers, but the models in use here (klte, kltechn, klteaio, kltedv, etc) aren't locked.

I had to jump through hoops to unlock my Galaxy Tab A 10.1 (2019) before flashing LineageOS, it ultimately needed a multi-disabler flashed to unlock its bootloader. But Samsung wasn't locking the bootloader like that back in 2014 with the S5. (From memory they introduced locked bootloaders with the S6 or S7.)

Cough cough.

AT&T's S5 SM-G900A has an impossible to unlock bootloader because that's what they requested from Samsung.

The Galaxy S5 SM-G900V has a locked bootloader because Verizon requested it from Samsung & it's a pain in the butt to unlock for one of the variant while the other cannot be unlocked.

See this XDA thread: Root, Bootloader Unlocks, and More!

...Your CID Number will be the first two numbers in the eMMC Box under "CID" If the first two digits are "15," your bootloader is unlockable and you can install TWRP/AOSP ROMs.

If the first two digits are "11," **your bootloader is not unlockable**, but you can use rooted Lollipop ROMs...

Disable auto reboot in odin. Flash twrp. Hold vol- and vol+ and power till screen goes dark. Immediately hold vol+ and home and power till yellow revovery text shows.

Errr... you cannot "Hold vol- and vol+" at the same time because on the S5 it's a rocker button. So you can press either one or the other.

You can safely simulate a battery removal if you press Volume down + Power button for 10-20 seconds while frozen, in bootloop or Download Mode: the Galaxy S5 goes black & turns off.

If you keep on pressing the buttons until the Samsung bootloader splash screen appears & release them then the S5 should reboot in System.

To boot in recovery after flashing TWRP: with the device powered off, hold Volume Up + Home + Power. When the blue text appears, release the buttons.

Yes, I know, that's the model I was literally referencing when I said "there are some specific sub-models that are locked to carriers", but you chose not to quote that part.
I also said "the models in use here (klte, kltechn, klteaio, kltedv, etc) aren't locked", which is also true and you chose not to quote that part.

It's almost as if you didn't bother reading my entire comment, or you simply chose to cherry picked the parts you thought could use to make yourself sound smart. You also didn't notice this very thread has already brought up the SM-G900A and how it isn't supported, and how I've actually spoken about that model specifically myself, linking to a comment by haggertk (one you literally responded to yourself!)

But, you know, cough cough and all that, you're very clever. *slow clap*

thanks kurtn and DarkSteve! I managed to flash latest twrp and then flash los20 + gapps core (which work even if they should be 64bit on a 32bit device, but it's good news ig)

everything seems to work wonderfully

the only weird thing i noticed is that the auto time zone doesn't work really well. Apparently, it doesn't syncronize at all since the time is wrong with internet connection on even after reboot. Is this normal? Could be this the reason I get error 400 (problem with the server) on youtube app? Thanks in advance

i dunno man, somehow it worked immediately with me

"there are some specific sub-models that are locked to carriers",

Network (carrier) unlocking is not the same as bootloader unlocking.

or you simply chose to cherry picked the parts you thought could use to make yourself sound smart.

Sorry if you got offended but I skimmed the thread and the 2 phrases I quoted caught my eye because they were wrong..

Check my posting history, 2,000 posts on XDA since 2011 and you will see that I don't play those games & have noting to prove.

Check your "Reactions receiveid" and you will see that I "Liked" a few of your posts recently and before I made that one. ;)

When I do a clean install, it defaults to the US instead of Australia (where I am). I'm kinda used to it, so changing location is something I'm accustomed to. I normally set my time zone in TWRP before I set it in Lineage.

Some things use my IP to autodetect and default to Australia, but not many. Even then, detecting my location using IP normally has them guessing I'm in Campbelltown (western Sydney), or Newcastle, when in reality I'm in Canberra (in the Australian Capital Territory). Location detection is rather ****house in my experience.

But then again, I don't use gapps, so I don't have google looking over my shoulder telling everyone what I'm doing and where I am.

EDIT: I didn't even realise what I said was considered swearing, but then I saw the stars blocking out a common but apparently naughty word! :ROFLMAO:

yes but i want to sell this phone because it is in very good condition and in my closet is useless. I never saw problems with time sync in any los20 rom i installed in various devices, maybe i did something wrong

ip location should be sufficiently precise for approximative position thus time zone

edit: ok, time seems to have fixed itself during some time, maybe processor lag dunno. Anyway, should the speaker work? Because mine doesn't

Sell with lineageOS 20 installed? The customer must have really a lot of trust. Sell them some healing stones.

Hello, I have a problem with this rom. Loudspeaker doesn't work. In los18 official it worked weird: calls were from loudspeaker but I couldn't manage to listen to youtube audio from browser. In this los20 calls audio is emitted from front ear speaker and not from loudspeaker. Couldn't manage to emit any sound from loudspeaker in any way. Is this a known problem?

Good god, SO MUCH this. I couldn't believe all the hoops I had to jump through just to break the damn bootloader on my G900V. Windows Defender was VERY convinced I was going to blow up the moon, or something.

To be fair some less intelligent customers are willing to spend their money on some MT6735 iPhone clone, which this Galaxy s5 is miles ahead of.

Also, some healing stones with “scalar energy” are actually radioactive and will make the Geiger counter scream.

khalvat,is there any chance this custom Android 13 ROM could work on my phone? I would like to know your recommendation on that.
You can wait for khalvat to reply, but you won't like the answer.

No, none of his builds will work on your phone  (at least not properly).

The klte family of phones are very similar, the hardware is almost identical across models, but you still need a build specific for your phone. I have a klte and a kltedv, and I need to download two different ROMS, I can't use one ROM for both. I think you're stuck with a 2.5 year old LOS16. (That is, unless you want to be like khalvat and build it for your phone yourself!)

hello, sorry to bother you. The flashing from odin has no problem and it says "success".

But with auto reboot either on or off the phone won't reboot into recovery.
When it's in recovery (stock) mode, it won't boot in other ways than that, except when you select "reboot system".
When it is in download mode, the same.

Flashing twrp in dowload mode seems successful as the bar proceeds until the end. But there's no way to get into twrp after that. Can secureboot be the problem?

Mine has A11 with MicroG, my question is whether A13 works with MigroG. you say it's a risk, then no. Thanks
A risk? Well, kurtn isn't wrong, but he also isn't exactly right.

I mean, khalvat is releasing LOS20/Android13 with SELinux disabled, and kurtn was happy to install it. Seriously, take a look, khalvat's latest release (23 June 2023) has SELinux disabled. It's fine.

This forum isn't for your average user, the fact you're inquiring about installing microg yourself onto an unofficical LOS20 tells me you have some idea what you're doing. Your phone doesn't need training wheels for you to be safe.

I installed microg on khalvat's latest LOS20 (23 June 2023) and it's working fine. I also had to install push notifications for MS Authenticator to work. I've had no issues.

It's not that hard to get it working, but it is a little messy.
    1. You need Magisk, because LSPosed is a Magisk Module.
    2. You need LSPosed, because FakeGapps is an Xposed/LSPosed module.
    3. You need FakeGapps because it provides Signature Spoofing.
    4. You need Signature Spoofing for MicroG Installer Revived to work.
    5. You need MozillaNlpBackend and NominatimNlpBackend for locations to work.
    6. You need SafetyNet Fix if SafetyNet isn't working.
I basically used this breakdown as the basis for getting it working.

Good luck! I got MicroG (with Push Notifications) working on khalvat's latest LOS20 (23 June 2023), you can too

(Oh, one thing - FakeGapps didn't initially give me Signature Spoofing, but I had it after installing FakeGapps2. Not sure if I did something wrong first time, or if I needed only FakeGapps2, or if I needed both, but just don't give up if you hit a snag!)

oh so i can download and flash from odin latest twrp?
The Great Ninja is correct, you can get the latest TWRP from here and the latest Odin from here.

There are lots of dodgy sources of Odin available around the internet, but they're likely full of malware or some other flaw. Best to get Odin from XDA Developers., my link above. Currently 3.14.1_3B_PatcheD, from Feb this year.

While you need the specific ROM for your phone (e.g. klte, kltedv), the TWRP for klte will work for all the phones khalvat is providing ROMs for.

LineageOS is a free, community built, aftermarket firmware distribution of Android 13 (T), which is designed to increase performance and reliability over stock Android for your device.

LineageOS is based on the Android Open Source Project with extra contributions from many people within the Android community. It can be used without any need to have any Google application installed. You will need to provide your own Google Applications package (gapps). LineageOS does still include various hardware-specific code, which is also slowly being open-sourced anyway.
