Hi.

So I have a J500-F, recently discovered this thread and decided to try installing the latest version of LOS.

So far, I've ran into numerous issues; some I've solved myself, some still unsolved. I'm currently at a dead end here.

First, TWRP. I initially tried to flash the latest version (3.2.3 I think). It gets flashed successfully through Odin, but when I try to boot in recovery, I'm only greeted by a black screen. 3.1.1 is the only one that works for me. Though, I hear a "USB Successfully connected to your PC" sound with 3.2.3 installed, but the issue persists.

Next, ROM. After a tedious loop and process of trying to flash both LOS and MindTheGApps, I've "successfully" flashed both. Relieved, I try to reboot in the system. Now, another dead end. It shows the boot animation, but with a "Set Warranty Bit: Kernel" at the top left side of the screen. Then, black screen. Same as the issue with TWRP, it connects to the PC fine. Flashed all versions of LOS/LOSGo 16.0 so far.

Have yet to try 14 and 15. So, I came here for help, hoping that I'm only missing steps unlisted on the first page. Yes, I came from stock ROM (6.0).

If needed, I'll get a logcat later.

EDIT: Here's how I did things:

- Flashed TWRP through Odin
- Copied LOS and GApps, then flashed both through TWRP.
- After successful flashes, proceeded to reboot to system.
- Dead end; "Set Warranty Bit: Kernel", then black screen.
I think you may need to update your firmware. See:

LineageOS is a free, community built, aftermarket firmware distribution of Android 9 (Pie), which is designed to increase performance and reliability over stock Android for your device.
LineageOS is based on the Android Open Source Project with extra contributions from many people within the Android community. It can be used without any need to have any Google application installed. Linked below is a package that has come from another Android project that restore the Google parts. LineageOS does still include various hardware-specific code, which is also slowly being open-sourced anyway.

If you are completely new to flashing custom ROMs and have no idea how to begin, start by downloading a TWRP image for your device from the link below and flash it using the ODIN tool (see Instructions below). You cannot flash a custom ROM over stock recovery, so downloading a custom recovery is the first thing you will need to do:

ROM Downloads can be found at:

You will probably need to install GApps (Google Apps Suite) as well if you want access to Play Store, and other Google apps. There are two versions:

I am continuously getting ERROR: 7 even when it got an update recently. I have a J500F with unofficial version of LOS 15.1 with magisk and twrp 3.1.1 installed so I am pretty sure that something is not right with the way I am doing things though I have had installed numerous Custom Roms, this is the first time I am having some difficulty and it is constantly there and I would really appreciate some guidance and help through it as I really want to try this rom out and try pie basically.
Thank you for supporting such an old device which I really didn't expect to see a pie based rom for.
Regards,
Eagerly waiting rookie.

It works very well !!! Thank you!

Hi, I have finally got brave enough to flash this new ROM yesterday and I have to say it works very well !!! Thank you!
I have used GO version and saved at leaste 1 GB of ROM comparing to my previous Linage OS 15.1
I did "dirty flash" and most of the SW works well...some APK I had to reinstall because they were crasshing... I have install Google pico (open_gapps-arm-9.0-pico-20181010-UNOFFICIAL.zip) and all works till now well.
(note: I have J5 500F version)
I kept this steps exactly (as recomended in Bootledger thread):
Use the TWRP from the download-link for your device above (needs to be flashed from existing TWRP, ODIN version might come)
Download the latest build
Put it on your device
Reboot to TWRP
If you want to be sure wipe the device
Flash the latest build
Clean Cache and Dalvik if you want
Reboot and enjoy

No action in Home Button

I just flashed an unofficial version of Lineage os 16 on my Galaxy j5 2015 a.k.a j500f a.k.a j5lte with unofficial TWRP 3.2 and rooted with Magisk and when I booted I wanted to make sure that my assistant was working but couldn't summon in on long press like I usually do and neither I can wake my screen with my Home Button which is mostly how I use it. Can you please tell me why is this happening and how can I solve it?
Regards,
Eagerly waiting rookie.

Try to:
- flash TRWP from former version of TRWP and not from ODIN
- flash ROM first ... clean cash and dalvic ... and than flash GAPPs ... and clean casch and Dalvic...
This works to me fine.
I have to during next days uninstall some APK and install them again... but system is better and better... after 2 days of normal use it is running quicky smoothly and without any problems.
Also WhatsApp calls work to me (this was not working in LOS 15.1)
/note I have flashed Go version of LOS 16.0/

Observations (even though I'm not the person using the phone):

- Live Display lags the phone;
- No encryption (is it intentional?);

Live Display, when turned on/off, has a noticeable performance loss/gain. Thought the phone itself is slow.

Wants:
- Thermal Mode

Gonna try LOS Go when I have the time. Keep up the great work!

Now I have LOS 16 and if I want to boost performance for my phone I need to install LOS GO 16?
Phone is used as multimedia in my car (android auto google maps and spotify on it with charger plugged all the time).
