When I flashed the recovery it seemed to flash fine but when I tried to boot into it fastboot came back up with a message that "Start Up Failed" and the reason listed was "Error: failed to load kernel!" I can still boot my phone normally but can't access recovery. I saw someone else mention a similar problem but I did not see a solution has anyone had this and fixed it or have a suggestion?

Don't know if you fixed it or not but I had the same problem. Ended up flashing this version and it worked

I found bug in this version of TWRP. I made image of system partition on data partition, 4GB file. When I try to restore it I have an error that file has 0 size. I can use dd command to restore partition but it should work normally in TWRP. It's not matter of file system.

Help me bro im here unlocked bootloader thanks for quick replies, i was used moto g3 before thers no problem i faced tl flash anything but this one is so strange

I don't know why you're stuck bro. If you follow this guide the next step after bootloader unlock is to fastboot flash your twrp file, rt? https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g5s-plus/development/root-moto-g5s-plus-t3673287
*what fastboot command are you using? For ex, to flash this recovery( https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=889964283620777591 )type: fastboot flash recovery twrp-sanders-r16.img
...& then just reboot to recovery, make a backup, and install root zip.

Guys!

First, I got to say that it's true when those all those guys have written TWRP 3.1.1-0 doesn't work for everyone if after reinstall the original firmware they've tried to flash TWRP again. It says "not signed or corrupted" and if they attempt, from bootloader, to go to recovery mode, the cellphone shows an android logo and then "no command". The solution I've found after reading all this thread has been flashing the modified TWRP vR16 (https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g5s-plus/development/recovery-twrp-3-1-1-r7-t3694910). It will show you the same "bug", but now you'll be able to access to recovery mode.

Finally, I've rooted my XT1801 (Latam version) with Magisk and now I'm working on how to figure out the installation of Viper and Xposed on stock rom.

I'm not a developer, but if someone still has problems with it, I'll be glad to help. :cowboy:

TWRP 3.1.1-0 Moto G5S plus (sanders)

    Latest TWRP changelog :

    3.1.1-0 full changelog

    Bugs :

Didn't found any for now, if you find something, you can report to me.

    IMPORTANT NOTE :

    • At first boot twrp will ask for "Swipe to allow modifications for /system" and if you choose to allow it system partition will get modified. So if you choose to reboot back to OS without performing anything in twrp, the OS won't boot (as verity check is enabled in stock OS/kernel) . To avoid this you have to flash either SuperSU or flash any of the verity disabler zips there in xda

    • Force encryption is enabled by default in stock OS and twrp will successfully decrypt /data at first boot if all goes well

    • If in case decryption doesn't go fine, twrp will popup a dialog box asking for password and that means decryption went wrong and you would need to wipe data once via twrp wipe options and reboot back to twrp for functioning of /data

    Installation Guide :

    • Reboot to bootloader
    • fastboot flash recovery twrp-****.img (if you want permanent flash) or fastboot boot twrp-****.img (if you want temporary
    • boot)

    Download Link :

    twrp-3.1.1-sanders

    Ps :

I'm waiting for official kernel sources release for this device (sanders), before compiling custom roms, kernels etc... (I've tried with moto G5 plus sources but camera/flash didnt worked :/ )

    Hope you like it!

    Hi here are the steps.

We need to use fastboot method since this is not a twrp back.

Download Moto G5s Plus Stock Firmware
Install Motorola Driver and ADB Fastboot Driver on your PC.
Now extract stock firmware in ADB Fastboot folder.
Now, turn off your device and boot into bootloader by pressing volume down button +power button simultaneously.
Now, connect your device to your PC via a USB Cable.
Open a command prompt window and type the following commands:
    fastboot oem fb_mode_set
    fastboot flash partition gpt.bin
    fastboot flash bootloader bootloader.img
    fastboot flash logo logo.bin
    fastboot flash boot boot.img
    fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
    fastboot flash dsp adspso.bin
    fastboot flash oem oem.img
    fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.0
    fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.1
    fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.2
    fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.3
    fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.4
    fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.5
    fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.6
    fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.7
    fastboot flash modem NON-HLOS.bin
    fastboot erase modemst1
    fastboot erase modemst2
    fastboot flash fsg fsg.mbn
    fastboot erase cache
    fastboot erase userdata
    fastboot erase customize
    fastboot erase clogo
    fastboot oem fb_mode_clear
    fastboot reboot

So the phone should be booting now.
