No comments on the Nvidia Shield... Although I most likely will get one, it's just not the kind of device that can compare to the usability of the Xperia Play.

On the Tegra 4 however, now that really is something to admire! Perhaps there should be a topic on that?

Man, these things are getting less and less portable... already hard enough to lug the Vita anywhere with it's extreme thickness and protruding analogs (which MUST be protected with a case). MOGA is both inconvenient from both a hardware and software standpoint, and this looks to steal the crown in great specs matched with impracticality.

If anything were to ever match portability with premium gaming, I'd imagine it would look a lot like the Yinlips YDP-G66

Put Android on that, shove another analog in there, have it's inputs detected as a gamepad and that would actually be something phenomenal.

is like a ps2 dual shock controller with xbox style button plus a 5 inch lcd on the center, and by the design it looks very much the same as old third party lcd add on attached on ps2 controller from 2005

it maybe good for gaming and watching movie only , doing other things like web browsing sux with this shield, well if the price 200$ below maybe...YES!

The Moga isn't really convenient to carry around, you're right. It serves a purpose though for people who love to game on their Android devices.

I ditched my PLAY somewhere around Q3 of 2012 and got a phone with a Snapdragon S4 soc. The Moga gave me a way to still game on my phone, and with my phones HDMI output, I literally have a pint sized gaming console I can take with me places. The Moga's game compatibility list is huge and growing still, and I love the dual analog sticks it provides.

I know you guys really love the Xperia Play, I did too, but with only 512mb of ram and a single core cpu, the phone just doesn't compare... not to even last generations offerings.

When you look at how good the graphics are on Tegra 3/Snapdragon S4 devices in comparison to the Xperia Play, I don't know what keeps you guys using the Play. The slide out controller isn't worth all of the drawbacks.

You haven't even seen one of these nVidia devices in real life and you're already certain it "will suck". It has a bigger screen than the PLAY does, and bigger screens usually make for a better web browsing experience.

When you look at how bad are the options to play with physical controls on other phones in comparison to the Xperia Play, I don't know what keeps you using those other phones. The graphics are useless if you play uncomfortable and tapping the screen.

"Oh, I can't play very well with this game... But look how good does it look"----->stupid.

If I want to game on my phone, I'll bring the Moga controller. I've got a Tegra 3 tablet on me all of the time anyways. The Xperia Play is simply old tech that most people have moved on from. There's a small number of you here that that don't seem to want to let go though, and it amazes me.

There are even cases where game developers are breaking PLAY compatibility just to make their games work with the Moga.

Latest Update Messed My Xperia PLAY Controls...
I really love this game and I consider it one of my favorites...However, when I downloaded the latest game update - it messed up my Xperia PLAY controls...For some reason, the pads aren't working anymore. It doesn't turn the planes and it doesn't allow it to climb or dive...I'm REALLY FRUSTRATED with this!...To the game developers out there (who I hope are monitoring these reviews) - is there a way for me to get back my previous controller settings that used to be defaulted for the SE Xperia PLAY? Or is there a way to undo the update that I downloaded previously?...I need your help badly!!!
What I quoted above is an Experia Play owner crying about "Sky Gamblers Rise of Glory" not being compatible with his phone anymore. This is coming after the latest game patch that brought in support for the Moga controller.

I still have my PLAY, and have no intentions of letting go of it. It could never be my daily driver though.

I don't see anyting amazing on still wanting to have the only Android phone that allows to play comfortably with physical controls and that can fit in your pocket with those controls, it's just logic.

The Xperia Play is definitely outdated in its specs, but I won't throw it away even when I'll get my new phone in 6 months (hopefully a Galaxy Note 3). It's a great piece of work, and even outdated it's still a revolution.

Don't you guys think that project shield is gonna be kinda useless?
It runs android and has a tegra 4 processor, which means all tegra 4 android phones will be able to play similar games. So you might as well get a tegra 4 phone instead. Also, since 90% of android games are ports of ios games(which use outdated hardware), the games won't truly be able to take advantage of the 72 gpus, despite being advertised as tegra optimised.
As for streaming video games, that's only really done when you have a strong wifi connection and if your home pc is turned on. In other words, you would usually be at home when these conditions are met. Which means you might as well be playing directly on your pc.
So I don't really get the point of project shield. It doesn't seem to offer anything that android phones don't already do.

Xperia play is the clear winner in the design department.

Mine is falling apart and I still refuse to get rid of it!

Seeing all the recent ANDROID gaming devices coming in 2013 really makes me mad that Xperia Play 2 isn't in the pipeline....

Also... WHY IS NO OTHER COMPANY making an android flip out gaming phone

You think Sony has the Patent on Lockdown or something?

Because most people are content playing games with their touchscreens. The ones who aren't, like me, just use a Moga. For all of the R&D Sony had to put into the Play, it wasn't a popular phone. You don't go places and see people using them. That's why there isn't going to be a Play 2.

The problem was carrier exclusivity. I'm actually thinking about getting an unlocked Xperia play from Amazon because I have T-Mobile. Most of my friends who wanted one didn't have Verizon.
