Just a reminder for those who discover GCam and struggle on the best way to use it. There are a few things to keep in mind when using it, as it may sometimes be a bit less of a 'point-and-shoot' camera than the stock OnePlus app.

For daylight scenarios, the stock app is perfectly able to handle the situation and using GCam does not always make much sense, especially as the former will probably boost the color channel vibrancy & saturation more, which some users may prefer, as well as raise the brightness (a bit too much, in my opinion, but that could probably be arguable and is definitely a matter of personal preference as well).

Stock app is also my first choice when I'm photographing people, as their face looks simply more pleasant with it. GCam will hardly know that it should 'soften' their skin and decrease the contrasts and micro-contrasts in these situations.

GCam becomes interesting for lower-light scenarios, interior shots and possibly closer shots which need to get as many details / recover as many details from the shadows as possible with the lowest possible (photographic) 'noise'. GCam is also interesting for some night shots, due to the ability to use custom AWB which will completely remove those terrible red/orange/yellow color temperatures, a function that the stock app doesn't have (of course, you could always use some other app for this function, but that's always an extra-step and not the purpose of this quick list of advice).

From my personal experience in using GCam, you need to 'learn' about those scenarios when it's best to use either stock app or the Google Camera one. In case of light & contrast-challenging scenes, it is also advisable to manually select your zone of focus, which will adapt your exposure more precisely (especially at night or when your subject is backlit). GCam also needs time to make its HDR and capture 20+ frames in a short time, you'd better be steady with your phone in low-light conditions, or simply use what is around you (a table, surface...) and use some timer. Again, selecting your zone of focus manually (app will then 'lock' the focus on it and you can then re-frame your shot safely) will definitely get you greater results and better exposure as well. You should also make sure you let the app finish processing your picture completely before switching to another lens, and a good way to know that the app has completely finished doing its processing job is to check for the 'social (network) share' symbol that will circle the small gallery icon for a few seconds after you take a picture (on B.S.G mod, for example), on the lower-right side of the main GCam screen (simply let it finish the job before you use a different lens and preferably before you simply take another shot, even with the same lens).

Anything video-related, I'd also not recommend using GCam as your primary app. There are much better choices out there...

I probably forgot tons of other advice, but this short list might already help some newcomers.

Hey, I just bought this phone and find the photos under exposed with the last update B.S.G Google Camera V8.1 and NiCkAM8PRO V6.3. Do you advise an additional adjustment ? Anyway, thank you for your work !

Hi buddy,

easy fix if you find your pictures under-exposed. Go to Settings > Modules > the-module-you-wish-to-set > Exposition Compensation.

You can also adjust exposure easily by tapping the preview screen once, this will allow you to both focus on your zone of interest and set exposure manually, using the dedicated slider.

Cheers!

🌸🌞 NiCkAM8PRO V6.4 Custom Profiles (for OP8Pro) - B.S.G Google Camera 🌞🌸

😻 Hello XDA buddies and GCAM lovers 🔥

A new version of B.S.G Google Camera mod was released ('GV1u'), which fixes some annoying bug with our device (Changelog: Fixed a bug when saving photos on devices whose raw format resolution is not 4/3 or 16/9, like Redmi Note8-9 Pro, OP8Pro and others).

🌟DOWNLOAD (APK + Custom Profiles): https://ufile.io/2xx4arec 🌟

It is advised to completely UNINSTALL the previous version (clear cache and data before you proceed), then install this new V8.1 "GV1u" edition.

Of course, as always, this new App version comes with my own custom 'Profiles', available in 3 different flavors ('Fine', 'HQ' and 'Night'), depending on what mix of Quality / Speed you wish to achieve. They are the result of some very personal choices regarding saturation, contrast, colors, brightness, exposure...), so in case they do not match yours, just take them as a base and adapt them to your needs and preferences.

💖 NiCkAM8PRO V6.4 Custom Profiles for B.S.G - Changelog & Advice:

✅ 3 Custom Profiles based on different Exposure Time ('Speed') and HDR frames (Warning: Be STEADY when using 'Night' profile and for 'HQ' mode -in low light- as well!).
✅ Optimized White Balance and Noise Profiles for our OnePlus 8 Pro, for all lenses.
✅ RamPatcher areas have been carefully set for natural results, yet slightly enhanced saturation/contrasts/details.
✅ Face Retouch (Level-1) and Face Detect set 'ON' for all lenses, Back & Front.
✅ Astrophotography works fine, just remember to set a Timer in order to avoid blurry pics!
✅ Front camera settings are set for natural colors (i.e: with saturation kept at reasonable levels), still with some details. However, keep in mind that any GCAM app will take pictures at 4MP only (instead of 16MP with stock app) when using the Front Lens of our OP8 Pro (a limitation that cannot be currently overcome).
✅Exposure was willingly kept at reasonable levels, which allows for truer, more realistic pictures, closer to what you really see, and maintains more details in the pictures at the same time (less blown-out zones). If that's not your preference, simply adjust Exposure Compensation in the Settings > Modules, or in post-processing.
✅ Developer settings are carefully selected, to offer as many functions as possible for our device, with some good stability.
✅ AWB is automatically turned ON when using 'Night' profile. If using any other profile in dark / night situation, or under some artificial lights, just remember to set Auto White-Balance 'ON' to avoid unpleasant results.
✅ Social Share functions are activated on all profiles, for easy file sharing, as well as being a useful indicator for when your pictures have been fully processed by the app. Let the app finish its processing work before switching to another lens!
✅ In some situation (i.e under some harsh lighting conditions), it is advised to manually set your point of focus, as well as your exposure, using the dedicated slider.

⚠️🙏This custom profiles pack is a result of countless hours of work, so please, do not share it anywhere else without permission, and even more importantly, give credit to its creator. Thank you, and have fun with it! 🙏⚠️

🌸🌞 NiCkAM8PRO V6.5 "Custom Profile" (for OP8Pro) - B.S.G Google Camera 🌞🌸

😻 Hello XDA buddies and GCAM lovers 🔥

Here is a new version of my Custom Profile for latest B.S.G GCam 'GV1u' (V8.1) application.

🌟DOWNLOAD (APK + Custom Profiles): https://ufile.io/zaxo6mt0 🌟

It is advised to completely UNINSTALL the previous version (clear cache and data before you proceed), then install this new V8.1 "GV1u" edition.

💖 NiCkAM8PRO V6.5 Custom Profiles for B.S.G - Changelog & Advice:

✅ First Attempt to UNIFY my previous 3 Custom Profiles into One!
✅For Night Shots & Astro-Photography, it is recommended to slightly LOWER exposure!
✅ Optimized White Balance and Noise Profiles for our OnePlus 8 Pro, for all lenses.
✅ RamPatcher areas have been carefully set for natural results, yet slightly enhanced saturation/contrasts/details. However, Sharpness was slightly lowered on Main Back lens, to avoid over-sharpening, but it still provides plenty of details!
✅ Face Retouch (Level-1) is 'ON' for Front lens.
✅ Astrophotography works fine, just remember to set a Timer in order to avoid blurry pics!
✅ Front camera settings are set for natural colors (i.e: with saturation kept at reasonable levels), still with some details. ✅ In some situation (i.e under some harsh lighting conditions), it is advised to manually set your point of focus, as well as your exposure, using the dedicated slider.
✅ Night Mode will always provide you with a longer exposure time, which will result in some higher-quality shots (and some longer processing as well). Use this mode whenever you need HQ results (for indoor/low-light/night shots), but remember to be steady! :)

I finally decided to give users more choice, letting people choose between one profile with [Face Detection/Retouch] on ALL back lenses, and another one with [Focus Tracking] on ALL back lenses.

On both profiles, [Face Retouch] is active (Level-1) on Front lens.

Apart from that, both profiles are identical and entirely based on my custom V6.5 for B.S.G GCam!

[Focus Tracking] could make it easier for users when using Night Mode, in order to get better exposure & precise focus :)

Download (GCAM APK + Custom Profiles) : https://ufile.io/zaxo6mt0

Cheers!

Which gcam version and profile can you recommend for more color saturation. Thank you.
I haven't been using anything else than B.S.G for months now, but if I remember well, 'Greatness' GCam was set to some nice saturation & vibrancy, you could give it a try maybe.

Anyway, you can also set your own custom saturation preferences through B.S.G app:
> Settings > Module Settings > the-lens-you-wish-to-set > Image Processing > Main Settings > Saturation & Saturation 2.

Hope it helps.

I feel there are some regression in this package over time:

1. The night mode takes ages to take a photo. It used to be slow but would take it in 2-3 seconds. Now, it takes much longer.
2. Tele lens is too dark. I can't recreate the photos I have taken at the same spot under the same lighting.

🌸🌞 NiCkAM8PRO V6.6 "Custom Profile" (for OP8Pro) - B.S.G Google Camera 🌞🌸

😻 Hello XDA buddies and GCAM lovers 🔥

Here is a new version of my Custom Profile for B.S.G GCam (V8.1) application.

🌟 DOWNLOAD (APK + Custom Profiles): https://ufile.io/iak2bh4s 🌟

It is advised to completely UNINSTALL the previous version (clear cache and data before you proceed), then install this new edition.

💖 NiCkAM8PRO V6.6 Custom Profiles for B.S.G - Changelog & Advice:

✅ Reverted back to 2 Custom Profiles: 'Fine' for normal situations and 'HQ' for higher quality!
✅For Night Shots & Astro-Photography, it is recommended to slightly lower exposure!
✅ Optimized White Balance and Noise Profiles for our OnePlus 8 Pro, for all lenses.
✅ RamPatcher areas have been reworked a bit to provide users with some more Saturation, more Brightness and slightly better picture quality. Sharpness was slightly adjusted on Main Back lens, providing tons of details with low noise!
✅ Face Retouch (Level-1) is 'ON' for Front lens.
✅ 'Focus Tracking' is activated for all back lenses. Users can revert to 'Face Tracking' instead (at the cost of Focus Tracking function) by setting 'Camera2API HL' to 'Level 3+'.

    Hello OnePlus Addicts,

Here is a Custom-Made SUPER-PACK of some of the newest Google Camera Mods available out there, which contains the work of several developers such as Greatness (Rakin), B-S-G, P.Z.D, MTSL, LMC and Wichaya.

Please, keep in mind that I am not an app developer, myself, just an enthousiastic end-user happy to share the good stuff!

    🌟 DOWNLOAD (APKs + Custom Profiles): https://gofile.io/d/OCsHTd 🌟

[ LMC R15 is currently the latest GCAM Mod included in this Super-Pack ]

    >>> The included XML configuration profiles are made for ONEPLUS 8 PRO ONLY! Using them on another device may result in some serious bugs, crashes, and it will definitely not bring you the same user experience... <<<

    1) Just download the file above, unzip it (using the provided password), then install the apk file of your choice on your device.

    2) Extract the appropriate xml configuration file, as well as its folder, onto your phone internal storage.

    3) Then, just start the app, give the necessary privileges, double-click on the lower black area near the 'shutter' button of the app, it should allow you to load custom profiles. Select my xml, press ok, done! :)

Some of these mods come with Face Detection, Face Retouch (both Front & Back sensors), great color reproduction, low noise, excellent details (especially on the main back sensor), FHD & 4K videos @ 30/60FPS with OIS/EIS stabilization, Night Shots, Astro-Photography, Portrait and more...

However, there is still no Distortion Correction/Fix on Ultra-Wide sensor, on any GCam mod I have tried sor far actually. This might come in the future, but it seems to be quite hard for devs to implement in their respective mods. This can be fixed by some apps in post-editing anyway...

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There are some 'hidden' shortcuts in some of these GCam mods! For example, with Greatness, P.Z.D, MTSL and LMC, you can access the (very useful) Exposure/ISO menu by long-pressing the circle 'gallery' button on the lower-right of the main app screen, which will provide you with a choice of ISO settings, as well as Exposure choices. The lower the ISO, the better the final picture quality, but it will take more time to 'capture' your image. The same goes for Exposure; the longer the time, the better your image (and the lower iso at the same time), but you may have to be steady if you go lower than 1/10s.

A long-press on the Camera-Switch button (on Greatness Mod), on the lower-left of the main app screen, will directly bring you to the App Settings.

Double-Press the viewfinder itself will zoom 2x to what you want to shoot, and will display the Zoom Bar at the bottom, so you can finely adjust it!

There is also a 'Sunset' shortcut on the main screen/viewfinder (Greatness Mod), just above the 3 back sensors, which should theoretically bring better color reproduction and lighting to your sunsets.

Also, one personal advice when using some, if not all of these mods: You will get BETTER EXPOSURE as well as LIGHTER SHADOWS when selecting your focus zone MANUALLY (within limits of your focus zone of interest, obviously). This goes for Daylight shots, as well as Nightshots, and another advice would be to try to select either a Dark area of your image (when shooting in daylight) OR one of the Brightest zones (for example, some streetlights at night), and then take the shot. The App should then do a better job at adjusting your Exposure, Contrast and Shadows, and this will greatly reduce risks of Under-Exposing or Over-Exposing your shots. When taking snapshots of people, in case the app can't detect their face, make sure you select it manually, you will definitely get brighter, more detailed skin results. It may be one extra-step, but I personally found out that it was usually worth doing!

    Well, hello there again :)

🌟 Here is my custom profile (V4.0) for LMC R13 Edition 💥 https://ufile.io/oyfwleal (APK + XML)

    1) Just download the file above, unzip it, then install the apk file on your device.

    2) Extract the xml configuration file, as well as its folder, onto your phone internal storage.

    3) Then, just start the app, give the necessary privileges, double-click on the lower black area near the 'shutter' button of the app, it should allow you to load custom profiles. Select my xml, press ok, and voila! :)

    -- XML CHANGELOG --

Lots of improvements and modifications to improve processing speed, quality and reduce noise on different sensors. Some color improvements made on all lenses, especially the IR (ID4), which should now bring very close results to what you see on the viewfinder! Also added some Black & White mode, for those who fancy it.

The XML is set to 'HDR-Net' by default, which means it takes shots instantly (and processes them in a second or two). If you need higher-quality results, just turn it off (using the icon on the left side of the viewfinder) and it will then use 'HDR+Enhanced' mode (15 frames, for good low-light shots especially).

Regarding IR sensor, it uses the real 5 megapixels sensor, so do not expect very high quality shots, especially as we do not have any appropriate noise model in the GCam app yet for it.

    -- APP CHANGELOG --

    LMC 8.4 Release 13 Fix 2

    Added:
    • ISO100, Max.Time, Max.ISO in shutter speed selection.
    • Session selection for the system (initialization, most likely takes precedence over photo mode, necessary for devices that had to switch mode to activate sessions)
    • 6 new sessions at the end of the list, thus adding probably all possible sessions at the moment

    Corrections:
    • Fixed work Mi12 Ultra
    • Slightly changed excerpt code
    • Fixes for some devices

'Exposure Compensation' (the 'White Sun' icon on the ViewFinder) is OFF by default. If your shots are too bright, just ENABLE it ('Blue Sun') and the exposure will be lowered.

    Have Fun :)
    10
Oopss, I did it again... :)

    🌟 NiCkAM8PRO V6 (LMC R15 GCam) Custom Pack (APK + Profiles): https://gofile.io/d/H33jkl 💥

    Changelog & Suggestions:

There are just too many changes in this new release to keep the previous V5x iteration, so here comes V6, with lots of optimizations and improvements in every app department. It would just take too long to mention every modification done to it, but after hours spent working on this new version, I believe it should bring even better noise reduction, speed and overall image quality (compared to previous release).

This time, only 2 custom XMLs are provided: FAST & HQ! They are mostly similar but 'FAST' brings instant shots (using Zero-Shutter Lag -ZSL- mode by default), very fast processing and 12MP image resolution (about 2-4MB per shot), while 'HQ' comes with HDR+Enhanced by default (with as low as 1/5s Exposure time and 20 HDR frames, so be steady for a second or two if shooting at night / in low light!), increased image resolution (6 to 12MB per shot) and therefore some slightly longer image processing time. JPEG compression is kept at 97% for both profiles, as it is a sweet spot in terms of quality / image size.

You can also use 'FAST' xml and activate 'HDR+Enhanced' function in the Quick Settings panel, which should limit Exposure time to 1/15s, for slightly better quality while remaining fast to shoot & process. This is actually the XML that most people should use, but if for any reason you need to use 'HQ', just make sure you are steady / use some stable surface (or increase Exposure time to 1/10s to 1/13s). However, if you use a tripod or a perfectly stable surface, you can even decrease Expo time to 'Max'...

Everything is user-adjustable, especially the exposure time, which can be quickly accessed with some long-press on the Gallery icon. Same goes for the number of HDR frames, which can be reduced or increased (if you use HDR+Enhanced mode).

If your shots are too bright, make use of the Exposure Compensation function (the 'sun' icon) or simply touch the viewfinder area and manually adjust your exposure using the slider.

Almost everything should work, including front & back video from all sensors. There is still no distortion correction for UW sensor, but this is not something that can be solved on my side, unfortunately.

For those with a rooted device / magisk installed (OOS 11/12/13 or custom ROM), you might get some better performance (especially if you get stuck at 1/100s in ZSL mode and wish to get as low as 1/15s) after flashing this magisk module (all credits go to those who developed it, not me): https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/p/camera-unlocker-oneplus-8-9r/?v1-2

As always, take this new release as it is, or leave it, but please remember this is all done for free, took countless hours of (my) time to create and is in no way made by a team of experienced developers. As for anything in life, there is surely room for improvement, and I strongly encourage users to adapt my work to their liking. Please remember that "if you can't say anything nice about something, just don't say anything at all", or at least try to be nice when reporting bugs or suggestions for improvement. And one last thing: we all have different preferences when it comes to photography.

    Have fun with it!

A tiny little update for 'B.S.G GCam profiles pack' that might fix some noise artefacts in some low-light scenarios. If you are fine with previous V5.1, then it's fine, if not, you could try this one :)
