No, that's the official rom being pushed. You'll be in some trouble if you flash that over smiui. I don't know if you can disable the updater app or anything (not had the chance to try yet), but smiui never comes ota.
Just keep an eye on their page for new roms if you're interested and you can dirty flash those versions incrementally, normally without issue. Backups are always smart before any flash though.
someone, in another thread, told me this:

Simply untick all from Settings -> Installed Apps -> Updater ->Custom notification
Otherwise you can uninstall or freeze the Update app

That works until you flash a new buid of sMiui, then you have to repeat the same procedure

hi guys,

i ordered a mi4c recently, and am learning a bit about this phone while waiting for the package to come.

what i don't understand in reading this thread is, only burning a recent dev rom will lock the bootloader or burning a recent stable rom also will lock the bootloader?? as for locked bootloader, can you still run "fastboot boot xxx.img" command in bootloader mode?

i am looking at updater-script in the full rom now. can you stay unlocked if you comment-out the following two lines in updater-script when burning a new dev rom?
package_extract_file("firmware-update/sbl1.mbn", "/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/sbl1");
package_extract_file("firmware-update/sbl1.mbn", "/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/sbl1bak");

thanks.

DON'T do that! MIUI requires Updater app to be exist and alive. Otherwise, upon next reboot you will be kept asked for account and password but your connectivity is disabled which means a deadlock.

For now only the official dev roms come locked, but this will soon enough carry over into stable. The safest is to stay away from official and go with smiui or xiaomi.eu roms, if you want stock experience. Locked bootloader won't let you execute commands.
Removing those lines will likely cause the flash to fail, unsure what effect they'll have on locking process.

ok. thanks you.
luckily, as i don't not know enough about freezing apps, and don't know what else is affected when i uninstall a system application, i only disabled the notifications

please look at the link below and see if anyone can offer a solution to me, please? i got this particular link via ice-it, so many tnx for that. my predicament is described pretty much in the link

http://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-4c/general/miui-eu-weekly-builds-t3236773/page7#post64948736

i would be most grateful if a solution is found and if there is, i am able to follow it. i also wanted to know how to stop auto updating, because even though i was of the opinion that i had turned that off, the damn phone went ahead and updated both last week and this week anyhow!!

i have downloaded the rom from the link on the first post. what method was used to get it flashed on to the phone, please? having given the problems i am having, i doubt if it'll work, but worth a try. tnx for that

Thanks for the info. I'm thinking about burning cm12.1 or cm13 on mi4c right after receiving the device, but I'd like to update radio first before burning a custom ROM. Unlike Nexus, Mi ROMs look complicated...

well, i tried to get the rom above and a couple of others on to the phone, but absolutely no luck at all! what is also annoying is that i cant even get into recovery option of the phone either, so this legitimate function of the phone has been shut/removed or something. i fail to see what good this is doing. i am so cross with Xiaomi. i'll never purchase another of their phones. they used the 'unlocked' in the adverts to please geeks when it pleased a lot more than those people but then force a rom to install that removes the 'unlocked' option. i think i stated earlier that i thought i had turned off the auto update feature, but i obviously hadn't because the update had been pulled down without me telling it too and as soon as i rebooted the phone, it was installed and messing things up. people should have the option of whether to download and install new roms, especially when a function is removed by the maker. the excuse used for doing this is 'to secure data, to ensure that no one can get into the phone who shouldn't be able to. crap excuses on there behalf trying to justify what they have done and there are other options for people to use to protect themselves anyway!not impressed with the way customers have been treated at all!!
as for using the smiui or xiaomi.eu roms that's fine if you can get one on the phone to start with and stop the phone from auto updating in the first place!
tnx for trying people. if a solution is found, i would be most grateful for a heads up

i had the same opinion for my Mi4c, at least until the last 2 enforced updates and this locked bootloader escapade! i do hope Xiaomi listen and start unlocking the phones again!

and after

when on a custom rom (any custom rom) ota is never a good idea, try to avoid it. because even if there's chance that the updates come from official miui you will brick your device. ota was never good with root in general, or any system modification.
go to apps -> messenger -> permissions and allow what isn't allowed, you probably need pop up notfications allowance. you should get it to work pretty soon.
Then we can or we cannot ?

If you're on a custom ROM, you won't get official OTA updates from Xiaomi.

I've got the Redmi Note 3, so my bootloader has always been locked. I applied for it to be unlocked 11 days ago. Does anyone know how long it's taking now?

The MIUI forums don't tend to promote useful discussion, and there's no Note 3 forum on xda (why is that?). Maybe someone could answer some questions for me.

Does flashing twrp and supersu to root require an unlocked bootloader, or is it only recommended due to the risk of soft-bricking?

Will having twrp installed prevent the successful installation of OTA updates? If so, can full dev ROMs or updates be flashed in TWRP?

I mainly want root to reduce the DPI.
