update and sim failure

Hi there everyone,

I'm not a owner of the mi4c yet. A friend of mine downloaded the latest update (but he didn't told me which update) and as results he lost the google service . then my friend decided to do an hard reset to bring back the google services. Now the phone does not recognize the sim (italian) anymore.

any advice or solution?

With so much details, it will be easy to help !
Seriously, you have to give all the system informations about what's on.
First, we have to be sure that you didn't locked the bootloader.
Try to reboot in recovery. Can you do that? Do you have Mi Recovery or TWRP?
If TWRP is on, he should flash Xiaomi.eu (without erasing data if it's what is already on, or erasing if he's on an other rom)

Italian have a miui-italia custom rom, isn't it?

but, generally speaking, do you think it's possible that some software update/incompatibily/whatever could block the use of the sim card?
