Would you be willing to share that rooted version of NC4? I took the OTA and lost root. SuperSU failed to keep root for me, so I'm stuck on NC4 unrooted.

Or would your rooted version only work as an upgrade to NC2? TIA
Unfortunately, it only works when upgrading from MJE/NC2. it requires a working SafeStrap recovery.

Updated 4.4.2 KK .Having issues with safestrap only on Note3 Everything seems to be working. Safestrap will open but does not show up on screen at reboot and shut down. I am waiting for answers.
I tried redownloading 2X from two different sources and it still does not work.
I do not use visual voice mail

Just reaffirming what beans said, do NOT install this upgrade. Aboot is patched so you can NOT downgrade back to 4.3. This is very useful for a variety of things, and the NC2 build can be put on top of the NC4 system given time. STAY PUT, AVOID OTA. Kernel modules are billions of times more important than any benefit this update could ever provide, other than a full unlock.
totally agree
I had the same problem that maliciousintent had with Visual Voice Mail. I spoke to someone in tier II support and he said that there have been other reports of people with the same problem with VVM. He said that it likely a bug that will have to be patched.

It is quiet possible that the update has been pulled until they squash the bug.

lol i wouldnt doubt it the only reason nc4 was released was to get people to upgrade off of the nc2 leak which is much more valuable than nc4
To anyone considering jumping to NC4 if you are on the leaked NC2 please read this:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2727876

I would strongly listen to Hashcode on this. You are risking losing a ton of benefits right now with NC2 just to gain a few minor things on NC4. Not worth it folks.
not worth it at all but it seems ALOT of people have upgraded :/
Has anyone else tried this?! Awesome if it's true have you tried using root checker to verify?

@BeansTown106 could this be a loophole for us to have custom TW roms on NC4? I'm sticking w/NC2 but I know you were looking into getting root on this build.
if it works thatas good thats what survival mode is built for lol.. but its also not the most reliable way.
Beans any word on a pre-root release coming?

thanks
gonna work on it more today have had a crazy busy week since the build came out
There has got to be a way. Seems lIke no matter how hard the big guys try to thwart it, someone works around it. Thanks.
nope there is no way and look at the s5 they are at like a $15k bounty for root alone and no one has done it.. if that much money isnt getting a root method then i doubt one is coming anytime soon..
How's progress on this beans? Is it proving to be a bastard of a chore?
no havent had much of a chance to dig at it will give it a look today been a busy week or so

My note 3 just downloaded some update. I'm assuming its kit kat. But it only gives me an option to install now or install later. I can't remove it from my notification bar..I'm not sure what to do. Do I install it? If not how can I get rid of it. I am rooted running stock rom.

I could not agree with you more than I already do, there are absolutely NO benefits from the OTA. If people use your NC2 leak or any of the fine 4.4.2 ROMs available and this for recovery and modem they would have all the "benefits" of the OTA plus the ability to flash back to MJE if a re-root is needed. With the OTA all the possibility of root is lost for a long time if not permanently. Below is a screenshot before a full reset back to MJE after using the file in the link above. After the flash back to MJE I am back to the screenshot status.I'm back on KK 4.4.2 with the NC4 baseband, I have root and the ability to do it all over again if needed.

i personally have not taken them apart and compared them side by side and Beans hasnt reported his findings yet so i assume to say "absolutely NO" then you have?

can you share what you have found?

i am curious to see what Beans posts after he finishes ROOT on NC4. my guess is there are some advantages to NC4 and i will upgrade to it when the Stock ROOT NC4 is available.

Took the ota update with survival mode checked in SuperSU and now I have kitkat and root, yay!
I've now had the exact opposite experience. Had survival mode checked and it did jack squat.

Is there any way at all to get root again? I'm ok with wiping the phone and don't give hoot about Knox. Honestly, I know so little it's dangerous.

I've sorta gotten to know my way around ODIN now, but I can't seem to flash anything but NC4 without it failing out.

There is no way currently to obtain root if you are already on NC4 and unrooted.

Nope there is no way to root NC4. That's why I told people to be cautious when doing it. I gave the warning multiple times because I figured that not everyone will have the same results.

Sent from my rooted Note 3 on 4.4.2 NC4 baseband

Aight. Just making sure it wasn't the qualifier "if you don't want to wipe your phone/trip Knox".

And yeah yeah yeah, I knew I was risking it taking the update. Just like I was risking it using Kingo to get root in the first place. And it worked--I did actually have root before the update. Shame I lost it. Probably go with a completely custom rom next time around. Screw this locked down VZ crap.

And for those tempted, the way I lost it was using the Verizon plugged in update. My wifi was slow, so I let my laptop sit around and download it. I'd stay away from the VZW update software if you're afraid of losing root.

Don't cry like me.....

My phone was running great. I had my favorite apps that needed root, and I had gotten rid of all those stupid ads placed next to buttons. Then I accepted the update. I didn't know that it was this ugly ad infested monster that would not offer me anything. Just more apps to disable and crap that makes me mad.

Who do I donate to that will help get this thing rooted?

I will gladly be a test subject and try anything that needs to be tested. Let me help in anyway I can.
