Hi
probably I've another stupid question which I found really no answer for.
Youtube alway tells me "There was a problem while playing, Touch to retry".
When I completely clear the apps cache partition it will work for some time but I doesn't take long to display this message again.

Is there any solution for this known? I've read posts about reinstall OS or similar, but everything I tried will not work for long.
Are you using Bluetooth at the same time? Loads of devices can't manage wifi and Bluetooth at the same time (which is ****). I bought Bluetooth headphones to watch youtube videos with and my table and phone can't handle both at the same time as they run on the same chip.
Already tried this and other very much other so called tips. The result was every time the same - Works for a limited time and suddenly stopped.
I hope there is a permanent fix for this very annoying bug...

I already tried:
Fixed DNS (which is no option)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kaVKaDoh2WU

Delete Data (works sometimes only)

"Restrict app background data"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0cEsVy4fdd0

and many many others. Clearing the app cache partition seems to be the only thing that works for one or two days so far.
I've to say only my Z2 Tablet has this problem. None of my other devices ever had this and I've many of them! (N4, N5, N7 2012, N7 2013, N10, Asus Trnasformer Pad) so it must be something with Sony.... And it is since Lollipop, never before.

Yes, but it makes no difference when I turn it off before.

If your still having problems try flashing the kernel for the firmware again from nutz kernel builder it's built you just need to dl it and flash
Thanks for this tip. I flashed the XZDR kernel for my SGP511, watched some random YT videos and after round about ten vids - same problem : "There was a problem while pkaying. Touch to retry"...:

I just can't believe that I am thenonly one with this problem?!

Any other ideas, please ? Every hint is really welcome!

I was getting the same issue with Facebook and the you tube app and its seemed to be gone now
I would suggest doing a back up then a total wipe and a clean install of the rom along with the correct kernal
do you get an error message after reboot about the damaged SD card
I was getting similar
Also install busybox to /bin not /xbin
I'm pretty sure its the kernel that's the issue

---------- Post added at 07:07 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:04 PM ----------

Also try flashing the recovery again

Sorry, doesn't work.

Completely reinstalled, fully wiped, clean installed, still in recovery installed XZDR kernel. Also removed YT stock apps before first start and installed YT from Playstore afterwards. Reinstalled latest recovery.

Still no luck. After some YT-vids tha same problem again. "There was a problem while playing. Touch to retry"..

All this happened first with lollipop and only on my Z2Tab SGP511.

Even completely uninstall and reinstall YT doesn't help.

OK try double flashing the kernel flash once reboot recovery then flash again
I'm nearly certain that's what I did to kernal number has to match the firmware number OK yes I just checked no videos are playing for me

---------- Post added at 05:49 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:34 PM ----------

OK a reboot has sorted the playback how long it last I'll have to see

Have you tried to go to developer options and try enabling/disabling use AwesomePlayer and see if that helps. I don't have this problem so don't know what happens with your device. So many possibilities that might be good idea to get log in time it happens.

Yes, does not work. No matter if I use AwesomePlayer or not. Beside here is a logcat attached while trying to play. Perhaps some codec problems? Perhaps some HW decoder problems?

On 5.0.2, YT worked flawlessly for many months. Since a few weeks I have the same problems: Videos can't be played, YT crashes etc.
I doubt that it is a problem of the firmware; it seems a YT or Google problem.

Yes and no. I have a couple of devices and only on my SGP511 this problem occurs. When I Google for that I often read about this issue on Nexus 7 2013, Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Samsung Galaxy S3 & 6.

But personally I never had problems with my N4, N5, N7 2012, N7 2013, N10, Asus TF701 all running with CyanogenMod 12.1 (Even my very old HTC Desire works without problems but has not enough RAM for these days apps ;)
Only my Sony SGP511 makes trouble with it's pre-rooted Stock ROM. So it seems at least ROM related.
The one and only reason I stuck on Sony ROM is that I like the IR-Blaster remote and - in fact - the Stamina mode rocks the world with it's battery live.

Yes, does not work. No matter if I use AwesomePlayer or not. Beside here is a logcat attached while trying to play. Perhaps some codec problems? Perhaps some HW decoder problems?
Your catlog shows lot of errors about ExoPlayer, decoder, Youtube and even memory.
And then there is this:
Code:
11-17 20:44:58.988 E/JavaBinder(13546): !!! FAILED BINDER TRANSACTION !!!
Have you installed any app, Xposed module or patch that can interfier YouTube?

How about if you try without AwesomePlayer, clearing YouTube data and reboot and maybe also try with lower resolution. Then new logcat.

OK so I seem to be having the same issue happy to pull a logcat if needed it's also happening in Facebook vids not playing

No, nothing about Xposed or any other with the exception of AdBlock from Fdroid. But on SGP511 it doesn't work with- or without adblock. Also AwesomePlayer does not matter. But since on every of my other devices YT works without problems (running CM 12.1) it must be something about the Sony ROM (root or not also does not matter)

The one and only solution so far is to wipe the cache partition in recovery.

Yesterday I reinstalled a completely clean ROM, wiped ALL data and tried random YT vids for about 2 hours - until this issue came up again. And all since Lollipop. Wired situation at all...

Perhaps I should try to wipe cache partition "OnTheFly"...

I hope i am posting this is the right place, i have installed your latest pre-rooted rom (23.4.a.1.232) and all is working brilliantly the problem i have is when i try installing other custom roms, i have the sgp511 (castor_windy) but every time i try installing a new rom apart from this one i get an error saying "this rom is for castor_windy your device is castor" when i know its not. i've tried flash the dual recovery files separately as i read someone else had the same trouble but it didn't make any difference am i missing something completely or just plain stupid ( answers on a postcard please to - 24 mapperley madhouse, looneybin lane, crazyville ;p ).

Thanks for the info. However very strange as devices have same hardware except memory.
