How do I flash the Flashable_SGP512_23.5.A.1.291_VMo_AU-NZ_by_kulvertti.zip file?
I seem to have no problems flashing the SGP511_23.1.A.1.28_R2C_by_kulvertti_Customized_NCB_1281-8175.ftf file, but Flashtool does not recognize the zip file even if I copy it in the \Firmwares folder.
@kulvertti - can you lend a hand please?

Please help!

This is a .zip file, not a .ftf file. You have to copy it to your phone and then install it from recovery (TWRP).
So you need a recovery first. Preferrably TWRP.

@hermovv - Thanks a lot. I will search for the install instructions for TWRP. What do I do then? Does TWRP have a mode for unpacking files or do I need to connect the device in USB transfer mode and copy the files from WIndows ?

Thanks in advance and a merry Xmas

The opening post will give you a start.
Basicly first you to have a rootable firmware on your device (if you are on 23.1.A.1.28, according the opening post you already are), root it, and then install a recovery.
It has been a while for me so don't remember exactly al the steps anymore.
The info is here in the forum but it is all scattered so you'll have to do a lot of searching and combining.
(We need a christmas angel here to put the complete recipy together and post it somewhere!)

I installed the provided ftf (6.0.1) but it is not rooted. I guess I have to revert back to 4.x.x to have a root-able android... too bad.

Have you got an unlocked bootloader? If you have put your tablet into fastboot mode.......

Flash Recovery via fastboot too (fastboot flash recovery pathTo/recovery.img) you need TWRP 3.0.0 you can get it from here in the first post where it's says link to recovery file http://forum.xda-developers.com/xpe.../aosp-6-0-marshmallow-sony-xperia-z2-t3235935
I have the original OS, no changes. I just let the system update itself from 4.x.x (rooted) to 6.0.1 and I no longer have root.
Sadly this seems to be such a major pain. I cannot seem to figure out how to install twrp or find a decent guide to installing a rooted ROM. I think that if I don't figure this out by the end of the day I would rather just throw the damned thing in the garbage bin and buy a 2nd hand galaxy tab a / tab s2... this is unbelievably complicated and it already wasted 3 days of my life

To install TWRP you will need to unlock your bootloader first before you do anything, I haven't tried this way personally https://www.kingoapp.com/sony-bootloader-unlock.htm

I done it the official way here http://developer.sonymobile.com/unlockbootloader/

Hope that helps

This is how I did it last year:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=60790722&postcount=20
Went back to Kitkat 17.1.2.A.0.314 for it.
BTW, I am unrooted since a week and still like my Z2 Tablet. Root isn't as neccessary as say a year ago I think, but that is just an opinion...

For example go here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xpe...-tablet-recovery-root-marshmallow-mm-t3437520
No need to unlock bootloader. Also in op there is instructions and links to threads where you can find tools to root and install twrp. I don't recommend Kingroot as it produces other problems.

@kulvertti - hopefully I'm almost there
1. I installed android 5.0.2 (SGP511_23.1.A.1.28_R2C_by_kulvertti_Customized_NCB_1281-8175.ftf)
2. I got root access with King Root
3. I installed TWRP apk and BusyBox... seemed to be mostly useless
4. I installed TWRP boot manager / recovery manager using http://nut.xperia-files.com/path/XZDualRecovery/XZDualRecovery_2.8.26 and TabZ-lockeddualrecovery2.8.26-RELEASE.combined.zip
5. I installed Flashable_SGP512_23.5.A.1.291_VMo_AU-NZ_by_kulvertti.zip via TWRP ... and it was rebooting like mad
6. I installed Z2-6.0.1_570_bootloop_fix.zip and it still rebooted for about 1h... now it seems to be stable on 6.0.1 with root access :) hope it stays

Thanks a lot everyone !

Congratulations, glad you didn't throw away your beautiful Z2 Tablet;)
This whole process gets so frustrating at times and if someone would have told me that I'd lose 4 days of my life to get this thing working properly again. Well, I would have gone straight to ebay to buy a Samsung and be done with it in 30 minutes.

Hi

Here are flashable zip file wich installs latest Sony stock 6.0.1 Marshmallow ROM 23.5.A.1.291_R3D (VMo AU-NZ), SuperSu v2.76 and latest TWRP 3.0.20 with read and write acces to system. Because device is Wi-Fi only region doesn´t matter. Only difference is bloatware. Since Sony hasn´t push update to SGP511 I use SGP512 firmware which is working fine on my device. If you want you can edit build.prop file in /system -folder to correct model number as shown in screenshot.

Here is the link for new 6.0.1 firmware:

Make nandroid backup before flashing.
Install it by flashing whole zip file via custom recovery. TWRP recommend. If coming from .570 or .575 firmware dirty flash with art/dalvik cache wipe is okay.
If coming from older firmware factory reset is most likely necessary with cache and dalvik/art cache wipes but anyhow recommend. If you want you can restore your data with TWRP after installation and reboot. This install compatible busybox. If you install incompatible busybox you may loose acces to TWRP.

After flashing .zip file if you are getting bootloop you have atleast two choises.
- With pc and Flashtool use your firmware original ftf -file and flash it by excluding "FOTAKernel", "Partition" and "System". In other words in "exclude section" tick these and don´t wipe anything. (Credits @AlanDS)
- Or download "bootloop fix" from here: https://mega.nz/#!AJcwERiQ!FUmk6eS5a...PCj11n0AIdCNzU
(Credits @niaboc79 and @machao44) and flash it with TWRP

Here is the old 23.1.A.1.28 (Customized NCB) FTF -file link:

This version of firmware should be rootable. For instructions and download go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/crossdevice-dev/sony/root-how-to-root-5-0-lollipop-t3212108

Hi, I can't install TWRP recovery on z2 tablet SGP511 with 23.5.A.1.291 on kernel version 3.4.0-perf-gc14c2d5. I unlocked my device successfully. And I download img from TWRP website. Twrp-3.0.2-0-sirius.img. And I used adb command to install fastboot flash recovery img. Seems no issued but I could not access to recovery mode at all. Any solution to install pretty rooted firmware with flash tool? My device was not root before.
Thanks for your time and support.
