Tried all of it, still magisk says "not installed". Flashed multiple boot.imgs...
When I start the manager it says it needs to do some additional stuff, when I click yes it fails.

Was asking here, since you seem to be on 182 as well. I think I'm just missing the right boot.img. But if that would be the case the phone would not even boot I think.

Here a patchet boot (Magisk) flash with
fastboot flash recovery_ramdisk patched_boot.img
unplug cabel and boot with hold vol +
then you can install Magisk and you have root acess!

Hope this helps.

Thanks guys. Followed the guide and have updated my Mate 20 Pro L29 to 182 and have root access :)

Only issue is Google Pay not working... Any tips on getting that to work? I've already tried adding it to Magisk Hide but I keep getting the "phone is rooted or altered" error.
Apologies if I'm missing something obvious. I'm new to Android (phones).

hey @auras76

if i understand correctly. If im now rooted and want to update to whatever firmware, i have to flash the other TWRP and do all the steps? including wiping the device completely? i hope there will be another way soon for updating, now it would be super annoying :))

regards!

Is there any reason that just installing the Magisk-18.0.zip installer from TWRP can't be done, instead of flashing patched boot_img instead? Doesn't the Magisk zip file just do that anyway?
