That's not great news for the longevity of the device is it. However it's not a total surprise either.
I agree fully with you!
Just simply cant understand how they handled the whole tf701 issues.
Before launch showing the first pre production version of the tablet the journalists reported already the excessive wiggle when connected to the dock. Asus simply ignored them. How arrogant one can be.

Well if this is the case (which it looks to be) it will be my last Asus Android device. I've had the TF101, TF201, TF700 and TF701 and loved them all but the TF701 dock fiasco is too much. The TF701 will tide me over for the rest of this year I'm sure as I rarely use the dock and it's a nice device to dev on.

Darn. I was gonna get the dock. Maybe I just give up the idea. I only hope 4.4.2 or newer KitKat version will be released on TF701. I'm reduced to only wanting that.:(

Wow they are resorting back to the 700? The 701 is worlds better than the 700 even with the occasional disconnect from the dock.

Maybe they will learn something from this and the 900 will be something worth purchasing.

new dock ?

Hi

I just bought my TF701 two days ago (coming from rooted Cromi-x TF300T)

I spent a lot of time playing with it :p:p

Up to now no keyboard disconnection
Of course the mechanical assembly is quite awfull but no disconnect

I would like to mention that at the very first power up (without network connected) I got a long process (3mn) of "upgrading the dock"

I don't know if this occurs for everybody

Actually, I have my doubts that the story with the discontinued dock is true, since the link to the product referred to in the other forum is probably referring to the tf700. Furthermore, in Europe, so far the tablet is always sold with dock. But only time will tell...

Don't know if it is really true.
But as Sbdags said it wouldn't surprise me at all.
As tablet alone it is a fantastic device but as standalone there is enough comparable competition.
The only usp is the combo (transformer idea) with the dock and that is sadly where it suffers badly.

I too had never Dock issues with all three Units I had in my custody. Only issues with the build quality of the Tablet itself.

I waited almost a month after buying the TF701 to get the dock, hoping to have a better chance to get the latest (or last it seems???) version.
Well, finally ordered from an Amazon reseller (after contacting them and getting assurance that they have the later models) and what did I get?
Oct 2013!!! LOL
With all the usual problems: Disconnects with the slightest movement, does not charge at all and the tablet does not charge either when docked. What a piece of cr**! Feels really cheap too, much cheaper than the TF700 dock...
After about a day I got a notification about an update for the dock firmware. Great! Maybe I get it to charge at least. But the update consistently fails. And now I get the notification each time I connect the dock. Seems it got flashed to a hidden partition since it survives anything: Factory Reset, Wipe Data from the BL, re-flash of the stock firmware - thermonuclear warfare probably too......
I contacted the seller and gave them a piece of my mind. Just got a response back: "We apologize profusely, sorry, mea culpa etc pp, we'll refund your money right away .... and don't bother sending it back!" ?????? LMAO

Although - I gotta admit - for free it ain't too shabby ;)

Anybody have an idea how I can get that darn update to flash????
I'll probably have to wait until I unlocked and then I can mess with wiping partitions in fastboot I guess...

Ha ha, this is really hilarious!! They even didn't want it back...
Well then their own experience sending it back to Asus etc. must be crappy too!!

That is nuts if it's true. It's unfortunate but this really turns me off to ASUS products in the future. They have great ideas but poor implementation.

i didnt get d/c issues but i was getting garbled screen.

just today first time since update i got a weird thing happen a quter of screen vertically in the middle was black with the rest displaying perfectly weird yeah?

i think i may send it for repair as i may just have been lucky to avoid the garbled screen and has now produced a larger issue.

pressing the power button off on fixes it still it`s not right something super faulty going on i guess. shame as i have manygames that i can`t back up saves of.

I've not had any disconnect issues at all with the dock and it's not wobbly or loose but the battery does seem to drain pretty fast. Usually only get a couple of continuous use hours out of it at a time and in the morning it's always at 0% even if it was fully charged before I go to bed. It still works fine when at 0% and I've not had to undock/dock at all. It did do an update when I connected it for the first time and it is the 2013/10 version.

so its official i placed a request for my tab. i said i want a complete replacement, since my dock doesnt d/c i am hoping the next one will be the same.

however the tab has suddenly gone bad with screen glitches like 1 out of 4 sleep wakes gets a black band on the screen and its randon places.

not sure if this is a screen or gpu issue but best to ask for a replacement rather than repair.

surely if the tab is not resolved of faults by now after 5 months it never will be so lets hope i get the newest build.

Glad I got the Note 2014 instead. I would not mind the proprietary connector if had the keyboard. I had issues with my TF300 keyboard, so maybe an overall design issue perhaps. That said, the issue was different since was a battery bleed issue with the keyboard.

try this mod

If anyone with a disconnecting dock doesn't mind helping me test a possible fix for the disconnection issue, I may be able to help. anyone with disconnecting dock, take your dock for the tf701 and check for play of the dock to tablet connector on the dock (forward and backward, just nudge LIGHTLY with a small screwdriver). If the connector has some wiggle, maybe a millimeter or so, try it with the tablet, you will probably not have any disconnection issue. If there is no wiggle, loosen the two screws that hold the dock connector down in 1/8th turn increments equally until there is some wiggle, then try with your dock. If that works, let me know and we can continue monitoring the function of our docks to ensure that the issue is fixed and that no other related problems arise. I believe I may be on to something with this and would very much appreciate the additional test case.

I had a dock with the disconnect issue and for fear of damaging the tablet connector, set the dock to the side and requested a replacement. I tried this fix on that dock and it worked, disconnect issue resolved. unfortunately I had already requested my return so I used it a day or two (rigorously) and had no issues, but went ahead and sent it back. would have been nice to hold on to the working dock, but in the name of progress, I decided to go forward with sending it back, and if the next one I get has the same issue, I will use it as another test case to back up a potential fix for this issue.

Interesting suggestion. I thought about this. My concern is what is absorbing the wiggle between the connector and the PCB (printed circuit board)? It's possible we may eventually break a solder joint after loosening. It would be interesting to open up the dock and see if the leads are able to absorb the flex.

I just took a look at the connectors on my TF300. The Dock side is rigid. There a very slight play on the Tablet side (probably less than 1 mm).

Still, I like you're idea. If the disconnect problem is bad, there's not much to lose loosening up the dock side.

Doesn't work here - sorry... The connection to the dock SD is always the first to go. Takes a little more wiggling the screen for the dock connection getting totally lost. But for this dock it does not make a difference loosening the screws.
