New to phone rom's

Hello all,

I am new to the whole phone rom thing, but not new to computers or linux. I finally upgraded my wife's Motorola Atrix 4G to a Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket. The gist here is I now have an un-attached Moto Atrix 4G to play with! :) No need to overly fear the dreaded Hard Brick. So after some more reading to try to come up to speed, I will be taking the dive.

If it all works out, I will probably give the mod'd Atrix to my soon to be 7yr. old daughter for her first phone. She will be jazzed.

This phone has a history of the Reboot Bug, so I am not sure how well this will work out all in all. I assume a good rom flash will be unlikely to make matters worse. The phone is still workable, just annoying that it reboots a few times a day.

Thank you all for a great place to come to Mod-my-Atrix!

whats my ROM version?

I have a Atrix 4G with following details :
- System Version : 45.31.0.MB860.Retail.en.FR
- Model Number : MB860
- Android version : 2.3.4
- Kernel version : 2.6.32.9
- Build Number : 4.5.2A-74_OLE-31

now, I want to know :
- is my phone branded as "international" ? (the casing I have is got replaced one)
- what is safest way for me to get bootloader unlocked?

thanks guys.

[Update]
seems i have to use IHOP_Bell.rar SBF for flashing. I will give a try and update here.

Now how can ensure I do not have any OTA updates installed? One thread warns us of bricked devices if the flashing is done after OTA updates. Long way is to install stock ROM back. But will a factory reset ensure to flush away any OTA updates, if I had any?

[Update 2]
better late than never! Yes, above IHOP_Bell.rar SBF worked for me. Got my Atrix rooted later-on!

Whenever getting my Atrix replaced by Best Buy Mobile, I find these steps easier to follow in lesser words:

1. download ROM of choice and place it on the internal memory card
2. use automatic boot loader script
3. flash Romracer's recovery via command prompt
4. flash ROM
5. profit!

It's just easier to do this vs. rooting the phone/stock ROM first, finding that install-recovery.sh crap, and then doing the process to unlock the bootloader/flashing custom ROMs.

I guess this would be a great to ask if the Atrix 4G is still a good phone.

You see I live in Brazil and have an iPhone 3G, and my parents live in the USA, and I want to send them some money to buy me a smart phone, the Atrix 4G seems like a REALLY good phone, and I am a phone addict, meaning that my iphone is Jailbroken and unlocked, I know all the ups and downs and etc of Cydia, so off course I would probably root and apply a custom ROM to the Atrix 4G.

On my iphone I mainly play games like Angry Birds and Where's my Water - so I guess the Atrix 4G is a good gaming phone right?

Other than that I would probably use it as an eReader when I am out of reach to my Nexus 7.

On Amazon there is this http://www.amazon.com/Motorola-Atri...=UTF8&qid=1347543187&sr=1-1&keywords=Atrix+4G

So I guess when it says unlocked it SHOULD work at Brazil (I am always afraid of it not being unlocked to worldwide carriers and just US carries.)

Thanks in advance
