I found a lot of the information in this post to be contradictory and also somewhat dated. Example, the non market apps section..non market apps were enabled in 2.3.4 OTA..no need to do this manually anymore.

There also isn't much information for those of us who are already on 2.3.4 OTA in a stock and unmodified state...how do we go about unlocking, rooting, getting CWM installed, etc? I'd really like to start modding my Atrix again but I feel a bit overwhelmed at the moment. Don't want to end up with a brick.

I applied the OTA Gingerbread 2.3.4 update. I lost root as well. Can't seem to find the procedure for re-rooting. Everything I find is the "leaked" 2.3.4 stuff.

My understanding is with the OTA, the bootloader is natively unlockable -- Is this true?

You can root with Gingerbreak, I have tried it and it works.

And no, 2.3.4 OTA doesn't have a native unlockable bootloader, you have to flash pudding.

guys im having the 4.1.83 on my phone and rooted with gingerbreak! and i saw sm people are saying updating my phone with root will soft brick my phone??? is it true? then what should i do to update my atrix 4g in to the new 2.3 update??? pleaz help im a sUper NoOb!

Reflash a earlier sbf and then OTA update all the way through the new gingerbread.

hhehe. I already try the OTA twice. & I got brick twice too!!. My atrix got rooted & sideloading enable, & I dont have any MOD.

I dont know why the OTA doesnt work.

Thanks for this amazing article. But like most noobs I didn't read any of this and ended up bricking my first Atrix. Luckily due to some very vague conversations and the fact I had just purchased the phone less than 24 hours before, they replaced it YEAH!.

Anyways had I read this before hand it would have saved me a lot of time and frustration.

Does applying a CWM recovery also resize the partitions? Or does it strictly use them as they are?
