Thanks Swiftks ! This is a great thread ! Very helpful, I followed all the posts and links, but maybe I am still too NOOOOOOOB ;-(.
I understand pritty well and can follow the single howtos for root, roms, etc. etc. ... but I lost the overview. Sorry.

In my understanding there are the following main items to "tune" our ATRIXs:

- Unblock. Just get a code and unblock it to use every SIM card.
- Root. Root the ATRIX to get root access (administrator).
- Bootloader unlocked. To be able to use "any" SFBs or ROMs.
- System Update to Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread.

I do not want to mentione now "smaller" things, as different boot animation etc.

I have an AT&T ATRIX bought in US, which is unblocked (running fine with Optimus here in Portugal) and rooted (done with Gingerbreak).
Running Android 2.2.2 / System version 4.1.83.MB860.ATT.en.US (OLYFR_U4_1.8.3).

Any update to 2.3.4 via OTA is not working on my ATRIX. After pressing "System updates", the update screen closes immediately and nothing happens. Probably in the beginning of getting rooted, I deleated too many "not needed" applications, which might cause trouble now. ;-(

OK. What I would like to get now is:

- Update to Gingerbread 2.3.4
- To remain (or get back) rooted.

maybe I would like (maybe I even need) an unlocked bootloader as well to try different roms.

So my question is, what I need to do and in which sequence (What first, what second, ). My understanding is like this:

(1) Backup (Titanium Backup ?)
(2) Unlock the bootloader still with system 4.1.83 (to be able to flash manually to 2.3.4)
(3) Flash 2.3.4 Gingerbread.
(4) Unblock ? Will I need to do this again ? Same code I got before ?
(5) Root ? Will I need to do this again ?

Is this right ? Anybody on 1.8.3 did the same ? Do not want to brick the phone.

Since your still on 1.8.3, I would backup your stuff, then flash the 1.8.3 sbf via RSD Lite. This should get you to a version were you can hopefully OTA to 4.5.91 Gingerbread, and then use one of the prescribed methods to unlock your bootloadet, root, and install a CWM Recovery.

or

You could try the link to the gingerbread sbf that has unlocked bootloader & root built into it, and try flashing that via RSD Lite, instead of doing the "official" OTA.

So if I'm already on the OTA 4.5.91 can I still do the gingerbread sbf/RSDlite flash without going into fastboot? I've been told I had to but that doesn't make sense to me if the sbf is rooted and unlocked?

Is your already on 4.5.91, just use the auto script link to unlock.... for root, most of the ROMs should root you upon install, or see my link under how to root, to brief mobiles website, which has detailed instructions, or the second post in that sbf gingerbread thread that describes a adb method of rooting.

OK, not sure what the heck I have done now. I ran the automated script to unlock and now it looks like I have reset my phone. All contacts, apps, accounts etc are gone. When it restarted, it came up to create a new motoblur account even.

What the heck happened and is there any way to reverse it?

I would ask in that thread... I haven't used the auto script, so I don't know what's going on, or commands it's issuing.

Router config problems (atrix) from Brazil.

Hi, my name is Rafael de Sousa, from Brazil.
I bought a Motorola Atrix recently unlocked, AT & T, for use in Brazil.
My local operator is Digitel Tim, and I have everything working perfectly.
I'm trying to configure my phone as a wifi router, but when trying to do, a message appears saying that I have set up an account with AT & T or calor to 611 (I dont have at&t account, because I was in brazil).
So, I would like to know how to solve this problem.
Please could someone help me?
Thanks

Hiya guys, quick noob question:

I just rooted my atrix. I want to make a back up of my stock rom for when I begin messing with custom roms like cm7.

Do I need an unlocked bootloader to make a backup? I've been trying to use rom manager to do it but I get an error, "failed to boot 2"

Then it goes to rst

Yeah, might as well unlock... your going to have to unlock anyway to flash CM7.

Also, did you install the Atrix recovery in ROM Manager before trying the backup?

Really really makes me know what to do with my Atrix. Thanx Man you're The Best

But just one question how come i can't upgrade my 1.8.3 AT&T to 4.5.91 AT&T GB via OTA? (I've already unlock bootloader, root and install recovery at 1.8.3)...is that because i've already unlocked the bootloader? Or what?..please help

Most likely b/c of either the unlocked bootloader, root, ROM, or some combination of them... :)
