Thanks Swiftks ! This is a great thread ! Very helpful, I followed all the posts and links, but maybe I am still too NOOOOOOOB ;-(.
I understand pritty well and can follow the single howtos for root, roms, etc. etc. ... but I lost the overview. Sorry.
In my understanding there are the following main items to "tune" our ATRIXs:
- Unblock. Just get a code and unblock it to use every SIM card.
- Root. Root the ATRIX to get root access (administrator).
- Bootloader unlocked. To be able to use "any" SFBs or ROMs.
- System Update to Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread.
I do not want to mentione now "smaller" things, as different boot animation etc.
I have an AT&T ATRIX bought in US, which is unblocked (running fine with Optimus here in Portugal) and rooted (done with Gingerbreak).
Running Android 2.2.2 / System version 4.1.83.MB860.ATT.en.US (OLYFR_U4_1.8.3).
Any update to 2.3.4 via OTA is not working on my ATRIX. After pressing "System updates", the update screen closes immediately and nothing happens. Probably in the beginning of getting rooted, I deleated too many "not needed" applications, which might cause trouble now. ;-(
OK. What I would like to get now is:
- Update to Gingerbread 2.3.4
- To remain (or get back) rooted.
maybe I would like (maybe I even need) an unlocked bootloader as well to try different roms.
So my question is, what I need to do and in which sequence (What first, what second, ). My understanding is like this:
(1) Backup (Titanium Backup ?)
(2) Unlock the bootloader still with system 4.1.83 (to be able to flash manually to 2.3.4)
(3) Flash 2.3.4 Gingerbread.
(4) Unblock ? Will I need to do this again ? Same code I got before ?
(5) Root ? Will I need to do this again ?
Is this right ? Anybody on 1.8.3 did the same ? Do not want to brick the phone.
