You're welcome. That is odd about your SDcard. Both internal and external show in my computer. As for the wifi issue it appears to be common for JB unfortunately. But read my update on 1/1/13 in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2059281Thanks to OP for this work around. The original method would not work for me. I am now unlocked and rooted.
Interesting snag I discovered through this tutorial, only my sdcard2 shows in PC. So I just copied zips there then moved it to sdcard on the phone with Es file explorer.
Also, tried the WiFi tether app, pretty much same as other poster...the first and last two entries indicate "failed" in red. Everything in between was green.

Yes they did. They didn't break root entirely. Just the /system partition write. fortunately flar2 has a fix. take a look at his thread hereSO wait, HTCs hboot update broke ability for root, or to access /system? Was just skimming and saw this. (I never update hboot, no reason to). But did they really do that?!
From my Evo LTE, yup.
what does your CID say?So I installed adb like the youtube video said and I got my unlock code.
I put it in the folder with the adb / fastboot.
I keep getting unknown error when I do the "fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin"
keeps saying unknown error.
Any ideas? I can still run command "flashboot" and it still runs
Wow. That's really dirty. What good is root if you can't write to /system?!Yes they did. They didn't break root entirely. Just the /system partition write. fortunately flar2 has a fix. take a look at his thread here

I used HTCDev to unlock my new replacement phone, and now am attemting to install TWRP, but using either of their methods, I am unable to get TWRP installed. Is this because I am unlocked? or because the unlock doesnt still allow me to write? I'm kinda confused right now...am I stuck with a stock phone?Wow. That's really dirty. What good is root if you can't write to /system?!Damn you, HTC.
From my Evo LTE, yup.
Follow step 2 and 3 closely in the original post. You have to install adb/sdk fastboot. I may put together a NON-flashable zip with an ADB package in it to make this part easier.I used HTCDev to unlock my new replacement phone, and now am attemting to install TWRP, but using either of their methods, I am unable to get TWRP installed. Once you have adb/sdk installed go to your "platform-tools" folder. Hold down shift+right click anywhere in that folder and "Open a command window here". download the latest TWRP *.img file. place it in your adb "platform-tools" folder. Turn off your device. Turn on the device and keep holding volume down until a menu shows up. Select fastboot from the menu list. Plug the device into your computer. If you have the right drivers installed, your screen should now say FASTBOOT USB. Run the following command via the command line:
fastboot flash recovery nameofthefileyoudownloaded.img
done. reboot into recovery.
I updated the original post to give new users an option to just unzip the platform-tools folder. This should eliminate any confusion on installing ADB/SDK. Can someone test this please? Just unzip the folder to your desktop and proceed to step 3.

You are fine to root. And as for any google apps not working I'm not aware of any...but...just in case I'm wrong supersu offers a "temp unroot" function to work around that. As for reverting completely back to stock it's as simple as:Thanks for the guide, rawintellect, your instructions seem pretty easy and I kind of want to try this.
I was wondering if there are any versions of the EVO that shouldn't do this; my phone has every update that's been pushed OTA that I know of.
Here's what I got:
Locked
Jewel PVT SHIP S-ON RL
Hboot-2.09.0000
Radio-1.12.11.1210
OpenDSP-v31.1.0.45.0815

I mainly want a way to backup my apps and settings, but from everything I've read, it looks like it needs to be rooted in order to do that. Are there any other advantages to root? I mean, other than trying out different roms (it's been a while, but I used CM on my old Hero). I've seen different posts saying that certain google/stock apps don't work after being rooted, and how easy is it to revert back to a stock Rom (like it's out of the box).
Thanks!
fastboot oem lock
fastboot erase cache
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot flash zip RUU.zip
No ROOTING alone won't wipe your data. Doing a factory reset will. Even wiping /system won't delete data or games. I use titanium backup or TiBu as we in the community call itThanks for the info, trying to get everything from HTC now.
When unlocking/rooting, will it erase everything on the phone? And if so, Is there anyway to save all the settings (like game saves and whatnot) before unlocking/rooting? Once that's done and a ROM is put on, couldn't I use something like titanium to copy the data back onto phone?
You're most welcome. Thanks for all the help, rawintellect.
Guide was pretty easy to follow.
Trying out your links to Stock+goodies and Viper today to see what they look like and how they function.
Note, though, after getting the unlocker from HTC and going though that process, it "wipes your personal data for security reasons" which deleted all my email accounts, sms, apps, app data, etc.; made it look like a new phone out of the box - however, it DID leave the music, photos, and videos safe, so those I could pull over to my PC and save.
Anywho...thanks again for the help and can't wait to try some roms.
