Updato Announcement to the community

Hey all,

We wanted to reach out to the community to inform you that we are making some changes to Updato. Over the course of the past few years, we have hoped to keep our firmware downloads free. However we have become a victim of our success. Our firmware database has reached over 100 TB+ and continues to grow daily. We serve over 500 TB of firmware on a monthly basis to a worldwide network from the US, EU, LATAM to APAC. This has stretched our ability to provide a stable infrastructure with our current resources. Therefore, we have not been able to keep our costs in line with the ad revenue and donations.

We have decided to move to a Freemium Model. We will still offer ALL our firmware downloads for free (at capped speeds) but we are going to charge a nominal amount for high speed downloads (served via a global CDN) OR users can opt to EARN CASHLESS CREDIT through our ad partner for premium downloads. To earn credits, you can take surveys, offers, watch video etc which will earn you credits. The premium service is priced to be very affordable and matches donations amounts.

Our hope that this will allow us to remain viable while also improve our ability to provide better services and content as we move forward with Updato into the future. We know that this may upset some of our loyal supporters. This was not our intention. We have worked hard over the years to build Updato.. We do hope you understand and continue to support us into the future.

As such, the website will be down from 7p PST to about 3a PST tonight to execute the updates.

Sincerely,
The Updato Team

Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

I used to be an avid advocate for this site and it had blazing fast downloads. Recently though, my experience has been exactly as described. Slow, full of Ads and trying to sell a premium version.

Greed wins again and we're all the losers!

The tool SamFirm although abandoned still works. You can find it here https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s/general/tool-samfirm-samsung-firmware-t2988647.
I am also looking for ways to bypass the premium account and I may have found one but it will take time.
BTW it is even open source so you can find the sources here https://github.com/eladkarako/SamFirm-Source
There is a new tool (works in the same way as SamFirm) called Frija that is being maintained and developed

greed

"completely free with no download speed restrictions."
delete this post, stop lying to your users. the greed in this sort of thing (downloading firmwares) is ever so high. limit the download speeds. ok. don't make it 64kbps though, wow. i could live with 1mbps, but 64kbps? come on. pathetic.
yet another good service falls to its own greed and becomes money sucking.

    Hey guys :D

I hope you enjoy our service. Use it as you would any other search engine. Often times it works best if you search for model number (i.e. SM-A800IZ), rather than device name. Also, here are some advanced search tips to get you started:

    • +"galaxy s7" usa
      • Display all firmwares for the Galaxy S7 and put those with region USA in the top
    • +"sm-t805" -germany
      • Display all firmwares for the Galaxy Tab S except those from Germany
    • +marshmallow +switzerland
      • Display all Marshmallow firmwares from Switzerland

Let us know what you think.
PS: The site is not yet responsive in design (we're working on it)

i have to wait about 3 min and then everything fine, maybe my bad because i can't wait about some min ..sorry..
server prob or what ever, now it works fine when i search any firmware..
    big thanks to you..

Yup, things have been really picking up on our end so we're working right now on strengthening our servers. If there's ever any lag or downtime, it should fade away in the next few days.

I think you must use some kind of autocomplete feature. I can not finda anyting when i search with "SM-930F"

At the moment, the search requires that you enter the full model number, and if a letter or a number is missing, results can be very different. But I love the idea and we'll definitely look into ways to make our search engine smarter :)

Hey guys! The site looks good but I think that a good thing to add would be "fluid" tables (and structures) because now they don't fit in the phone screen and its impossible to read all the columns of the firmware table. By adding that you're site will be accesible for every phone and not only pc's.

    Thank you :) I agree!

We're actually working on the responsive design as well, so that it looks well on mobile devices. Although that might take a few weeks. On the bright side, we'll be releasing our app in the next few days and it's looking great, we're certainly aiming to make mobile experience very pleasant.

    I call BS.

I tried to find the firmware for my Note 8 for Sprint. Found it but there were no download links. Paid, free anything. The closest thing I could find was just a redirect to another crappy website.

Your site appears to be an ad full scam site. When you have to purposefully navigate around craploads of ads, its a scam site. If a download link actually appears I'll probably get like 0.1k/s speed and it will be a giant waste of time. Additionally, I'm not going to give any money to a site that obviously preys on its users. You should be ashamed of yourselves and I hope anyone reading this will avoid your site like a plague!
