Really interesting... I don't understand this ... what  why its possible to restore root for some and not for others... This is just confusing
Did you verify your SU was installed/backed up properly and did you verify your backups were up to date for OTA rootkeeper.

if you did not do this RIGHT before updating that may be why you lost root. its odd i know you think its still there after allt his time but sometimes things get outa sync.. If you did do this than my theory is borked and i have no idea why you lost root.

Soo is it just me or did this update install some trial version of a wifi app that has completely messed up the wifi?

This is bs.
uhh find the name of the app maybe it came from somewhere else?

yeah, I did, I made new backup in OTA rootkeeper before every update, so it is strange...

So I updated from 10.6.18 with no problems. I didn't have the rootkeeper, so I lost root, of course. No big deal.

I tried flashing a recovery, but had issues from my Windows computer with the latest drivers. It kept failing, and Android SDK didn't want to install any new packages for some odd reason in this world. I plugged into my Linux computer, and my recovery (TWRP 2.6.3) was installed in seconds.

Now, I can't update the binary. I don't seem to have "true" root access. This is not a big deal, since TWRP is what I REALLY wanted. I'll wait for a custom rom on the new bootloader to drop. I can't be bothered right now.

My Wifi strength has been absolutely rubbish since this last update. unless you are standing next to the router you can manage 1-2 bars at the most.

on the other hand after a full backup and factory reset then restore, overall performance is much snappier

My Wi-Fi connects instantly after this update. No changes in the strength/bars. Overall it feels snappy.

Except for Polaris office force closing. Tried clearing the data, cold boot but no change.
Might have to try updating from the full zip.

If anybody can provide the .apk and associated .ko files shall test for corrupt installation.

Re-updated via fastboot and everything is smooth. Polaris office works well.
Might have to try CROMi-X 5.0.x after sbdags update for the latest firmware.

Guys, I need some help. I am unlocked and rooted and back in January or so I loaded a rom. I have no idea what firmware I am on and honestly, just want to get back to stock and load the newest firmware on but stay rooted so I can restore everything with TiBu.

Can I just update the firmware on top of what I have now? What steps do I need to take? I have TWRP installed

How to dismiss upfdate

I don't want the update as I am not confident of keeping root. But how do I dismiss it so it doesn't keep showing up on the notification bar, where I am bound to hit it by mistake

I don't think that you van update the firmware without installing the stock rom. Yes, you will lose your recovery, but that can always e reflashed. It's no big deal, really. Just make sure that you have the latest drivers, and you're all good. :)

I got the OTA notification for this update, but when I tried to install it I got an error, this happened the second time I tried too, and now when I manually check System Update I get told that I am up to date even though I am still on an earlier version. (WW 10.6.1.15.3) I am rooted but not unlocked. Does this mean I won't be able to get the update any more? I don't want to update manually as I've read that I won't be able to restore root....

I've been experimenting with this update for a few days, I'll offer what I've learned.

The Wi-Fi update is fine. If your Wi-Fi isn't working do a FULL factory reset and don't restore your old Wi-Fi settings from TiBu. If that doesn't work reboot your router. The change in device ID seemed to confuse my cheap price of crap router.

Motochopper will root, but not fully. You'll have to re-install SuperUser from the market and let it do it's thing. I found SuperSU to be more reliable in this.

TWRP will also give partial root. Install SuperSU and select the TWRP install method when it loads. It worked for me both times I tried it.

Hundsbuah's kernel seems to work but his tweak app for it does not. You cannot set new limits for Balanced or Performance modes. Using set cpu will allow you to overclock though i have not tested stability.

You can downgrade to 10.6.27.1 if you have a nandroid backup. I restored the original system and data partitions with the 10.6.27.5 boatloader and everything works fine, including Hundsbuah's kernel. Had to do a reset to restore Wi-Fi but everything is otherwise stable.

I chose to stay on 10.6.27.1 as I prefer the extra bump from the custom kernel. It did feel smoother to me though, but as stated before it's all anecdotal.

Got the same issue. Went ahead and unlocked the tab, upgraded via fastboot and blob. Installed twrp after upgrading.

Couldn't get my root back after upgrading from blob. Not from motochopper, twrp root fix, other superuser zips, nada, nothing.

Finally downloaded the su.zip from koush's website (clockworkmod) and flashed via twrp and got my root back.

Hope this helps.
