Hi all,

I currently own the moto great plus with 2gb ram and 32gb storage. I have the option of getting axon 7 for free. How does the phone hold up in 2018 and does it have an always on display? Also how's the battery life as I have heard that this phone suffers from severe battery drain issues.

No problems here, battery gets you through the day and the UI runs smoothly.

Weaknesses are:
- preinstalled software (can be replaced by alternative third party apps)
- camera (you have to live with)

Thanks for letting me know! Does it have an always on display because it has an AMOLED display?

If you have the option to get it for free - get it. It's an amazing phone! Amazing audio, hardware and software. It was worth it when I got it at a discount of $350 from $400. I don't think it is worth full price these days anymore, though it is if you find it for $250 or less. It's not being manufactured anymore too

It does not have always on by default. Unfortunately the battery isn't big enough for that so if you happen to install an app or have a rom with always on display, it'll drain the battery pretty quick

That last bit about AOD is not entirely true... If you install an Oreo ROM (For now there's AEX and RR, plus some random unmaintained builds of LOS and XenonHD) you can use Substratum to install a module that allows you to use Android's native AOD. It drains about 2% per hour though. But it's far better than anything we've accomplished with apps.

I drain like 5% every ten minutes, but I guess possibly from my degraded battery
