Upgrading from 4.4.2

I am running a Note 2 with Alliance build 30 for quite sometime now. I see that Google is urging people to upgrade to at least Android 6.0 because of Gooligan hack. Is it worth doing so and if so please tell me which rom you suggest for the smoothest transition.I would like to use Philz to be able to revert back if need be and not get locked in.

guess for those of us with locked bootloaders.. we are still exposed.... unless I am able to get a newer phone...
