Well, I just learned that the US wifi images are A LOT different from Canada's. I actually crippled my Xoom temporarily because the US system.img files don't like the Canadian userdata partitions. Well, that is until the userdata partition is wiped.

I'm not going to say much. I'll let the pictures do the talking...

USA:

Canada:

That's weird. What motivation would motorola have for doing that?
Companies do a lot of localization stuff. I also noticed (but couldn't capture) the setup screen for the US version only had English, French and Spanish, while the Canadian one seemed more international. It had a bunch of European languages, Korean, Chinese and maybe even Japanese.

Part of the reason they probably didn't give us this one was because we're not supposed to get Google Books up here or something.

@Scourge1024,

Do you recall any differences when turning these on for the first time? For example, having to accept "Motoblur Terms and Conditions" on one but not the other. Your apps screenshot of the the Canadian version has a "Motoblur Services" app, but the US one doesn't.

This post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12944248&postcount=336 seems to show Motoblur services running on a UK version. Can you verify whether or not your US version has Motoblur services on it?

I have a Canadian version as well, but am looking for one without the Motoblur stuff on it.

XR.

I'm pretty sure I had to accept some Motorola terms and conditions every time I did wipe on my XOOM. At the very end of the initial setup. I can't take a snapshot of that as adb won't connect till after.

I wonder if the Canadian version is like the UK one?

I also ripped the stock apk files from both US and Canadian versions.

I don't suppose I can get you to post up/send me the APK for Google Books? My Canadian image seriously lacks it (as you can tell!) and the phone version just doesn't do it.

I'll name my first born after you!

Are you sure? My name is Howard. Lol. Not the coolest name out there.

But I might be able to save you some trouble. I couldn't install it. I pushed "BooksTablet.apk" and "BooksTablet.odex" into my /system/app folder and I don't see it on my Xoom at all (after a reboot of course).

:)

You seem to be right - it looks like they've done something to prevent these apps from working with the Canadian image. Sucks! Kindle doesn't have a nice widget and page turning animations like GB does.

Ya kinda sucks that the Canadian version doesn't the US version of google books. I've been trying for 2 days to find it until i found this thread that made me understand that it's impossible.

Hey guys,

The advantage of the canadian version is the languages. i have bought the US version and cannot get the German language and localization running.

Other than google books any reasons not to flash the canadian version on a us hardware? Or do you see any other chance to localize it?

Thanks hdtvpower
