I am also looking for a cheap Moto X or Moto G4 or even a Moto E4 I can unlock bootloaders of. I know avoid Verizon for this sort of thing, they like to lock everything they can. So it looks like Sprint and US cellular. Any others aside from factory unlocked that are good for customizing? I like something I can install a custom rom on and even a custom recovery. I am just waiting for my payment from an eBay sale to become available sometime hopefully tomorrow. That would leave me $88 to spend on a device. I am still trying to look through the listings and pick out the one I want to buy. I just make sure the listing does not say it is broken or anything like that since I don't do any repair work.

With respect to sprint, the us cellular xt1768 is fully compatible as far as hardware goes. The issue is its imei is not in sprint's database and cannot be added. Same thing happened with last years uscc moto g4 play, and uscc moto e 2nd gen (xt1526).

Just poked around on US Cellular website.

E4 is 49.99, but you get a $50 rebate if you sign up for their $45/month plan, so the phone ends up free, and you pay $45 for the month of service.

Almost pulled the trigger just because.
When I first started this thread, USC was selling the E4 for $20. I tried to buy one, but USC won't sell/ship to you if your address is not within their service area...although they supposedly have nation-wide coverage. I was fortunate enough to find an eBay'er selling the USC for $50 at the time, so I bought that.

I have a Verizon Moto E4 SKU:XT1767, I got into the Developer Options and it had OEM Unlocking. I'm wondering if there's anyway to Root this phone, I couldn't find to much info but out of everything I found is that it can't be Rooted nor can the Bootloader be unlocked; I've proved that the Bootloader Can be unlocked. Can someone help me to just Root my phone.

If you got the Verizon branded model, bootloader cannot be unlocked. If you've "proven" it can, then unlock it. (Just because it's in dev options means nothing). Use fastboot on PC. Get your unlock code from Motorola and do it.

P.s. Motorola doesn't give one for Verizon. But if you get one, a bunch of Verizon users will be stoked.

True. I didn't really think that through, so how exactly can I prove that it does unlock Bootloader?

It worked out off the box for me on AT&T, so I imagine TMobile will too.
thanks. main i reason i ask is because us cellular is cdma. would of thought they would sell the boost/virgin or verizon version as opposed to the xt1768 which has all the bands. i know i can get the verizon for band 2 n 4 , but would prefer to have band 12 with the increase chances of volte working as Verizon version seems to not support it.

UNLOCK YOUR BOOTLOADER

WARNING: UNLOCKING YOUR BOOTLOADER VOIDS YOUR WARRANTY.PROCEED AT YOUR OWN RISK.
NOTE: Unlocking the bootloader will Wipe/ factory reset your device, and will delete all personal data from your device such as apps, photos, messages, and settings.

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Make sure to take a backup of your entire device data.
  2. Download the Android SDK OR Download the Minimal ADB and Fastboot
  3. Install the latest Motorola USB Drivers on your desktop. Download here.
  4. Put your device in fastboot mode (power off, then press the power and volume down buttons simultaneously).
  5. Open Command Prompt on androidsdk/platform-tools/ (Hold Shift and right click and press open command window here)
  6. Connect your Phone to PC
  7. Type this in the CMD prompt window - fastboot oem get_unlock_data
  8. You will get a return string. Copy it. [Right Click-Mark- Mark the text by pressing the shift key-Now press Ctrl+C]
  9. Paste all the lines together in a notepad. Remove the empty spaces.

  10. Now go to the Motorola Site.Sign in using your Google account or Motorola ID. Scroll down the page and paste the copied string in the field at step #6. Then click on ‘Can my device be unlocked?’, after which a "REQUEST UNLOCK KEY" button will appear at the bottom of page.
  11. To get your unlock key, select the ‘I Agree’ option. Note: You will receive an email with your Unlock Key at the email address you used to log in there.
  12. Important – Copy the 20-character key that Motorola sent you via email. Make sure your device is connected.
  13. Then in CMD type: fastboot devices (To check your device is connected)
  14. Then type: fastboot oem unlock UNIQUE_KEY

NOTE: In above command, replace the word ‘UNIQUE_KEY’ with the unlock code that you got via email. Then hit enter and the unlocking process should begin. Wait for a while and soon you’ll see ‘Bootloader Unlocked’ warning on your Moto E.

    To relock the bootloader:

Go to Fastboot and give the command fastboot oem lock

You can always appreciate my work by pressing the Thanks Button.:good:
Good Day

The switch in dev options is like a thumb safety on a firearm. Flip it to "fire" mode doesn't make the magic happen. Still have to get the ammo (submit your code request to Moto - but being a Verizon device you won't get one) then pull the trigger (enter the code to unlock)

Hopefully have conceded the bootloader on your VZW XT1767 is not actually unlocked, nor can it be unlocked without securing an appropriate code which Lenovo/Moto will not provide due to contractual obligations with Verizon.

More bad news: at present device can't be rooted either. However, it can be carrier unlocked for use with most other GSM providers (and some CDMA).

For real, he's right. I even personally went so far as to go to Motorola developer forums\Lenovo community forums and directly ask the company for an unlock code, assuming one was generated alongside it's imei, just contractually restricted by the agreement Motorola has with Verizon. Boy, was I hella wrong. Trust him, or trust me- hell, you can probably trust us both; it can't be done. Or try it yourself and be sure to keep me posted~
