US Unlocked July Firmware Update?

A user in the S8 forums posted that he just received an update to his US Unlocked S8 G950U1 to AQG2, which includes the July security patch.

Of course, just yesterday, I flashed my G955U1 to the T-Mo firmware, because I was tired of being a couple updates behind. I KNEW as soon as I did that, the Unlocked firmware would get updated. LOL.

Anyone with a G955U1 seeing any updates? The S8 and S8+ get updated at the same time, right?

Ugh....I don't feel like wiping and flashing and setting everything up again. There really isn't much difference between the T-Mo software and the Unlocked software. Just annoyed that I waited this long, decided F-it, I'll flash T-Mo, then literally 24 hours later the Unlocked firmware gets updated.

Silver lining is that Samsung seems to be trying to keep the Unlocked version updated right along side the carrier versions.

Anyone notice any difference in signal/radio performance? My S8+ always seems to drop signal, either to H+, 3G, or completely drop signal far more often than my Pixel XL ever did.

I have the unlocked S8+ and just installed the update which came over the air (G955U1EU1AQG2), haven't noticed any difference yet. Installation was flawless.

I sure wished it had been flawless for me! Now after the update my screen is red / pink around the edges and it's really annoying. I tried going back to the firmware I was on originally with Odin but the red screen remains. I know there are adjustments to hopefully correct it, and adjusting edge lighting and RGB balance help BUT, it still isn't right, or like it was before the update. On my box I have model SM-G955U1ZKAX. I don't see ZKAX suffix on any firmware at SamMobile site, so I am using the XAA suffix software for it. I have the US unlocked version. Is the XAA software correct? I notice a few differences in the settings section from what I had. Thanks.

There is an earlier thread by Bit Banger with same problem and how he fixed it using Smart Switch. Check out the thread:

Good luck..

If yours is the US Unlocked version, then the correct firmware is the XAA firmware for the 955U1. Odd it worked your colors. I lucked out and got what I feel is a perfect screen.

On a side note, has anyone noticed any difference in battery life? My battery life has been pretty good, but not spectacular with this phone. But now it's getting worse. When I installed the T-Mo update, I didn't do any recovery, just started out with a fresh install and set everything back up. I like clean installs. My battery life was less than stellar and someone suggested wiping cache, so I did that. Then yesterday I was down to 25% battery with a little over 2.5 hours of screen time.

I wiped cache again and today was a bit better. 2hrs 20 minutes screen time with 43% remaining. But I used to get much better than that. I had my resolution etc at the highest setting, so I've knocked it down to the default FHD+, but the highest setting on the Unlocked firmware didn't affect my battery life that much.

Anyone else having battery issues?

I have the 955U1 as well, and updated this morning. Immediately I lost the ability to use anything full-screen. Luckily, a Reddit user already knew how to remedy this: go to Settings>Display>Navigation Bar, and toggle between the 2 layouts. This will force the small dot on the left, which for me was missing, and was somehow causing System UI to crash every time I went full-screen on any app.

Additionally, I'm noticing that now my wifi connection will not remain stable; it gets an exclamation point next to it indicating there is no internet connectivity, intermittently, coupled with "LTE" right next to it. So it's either falling back on or supplementing with mobile data. This is in my house with a good, strong wifi signal that hasn't been a problem prior to the update.

Kinda irked.

Edit: Turns out it's my router. Ye have been warned, if you have an Orbi.
