Are you already rooted? Yes, no?

If no, is your phone eligible for root? (open market LG US998 V30 bought from authorized retailers like B&H Photo, not U.S.Cellular model)

If yes to either of those questions you can be rooted (or rooted again) with this KDZ. However if rooted now, you will need to temporarily lock your bootloader again, and then after flashing, unlockbootloader/install TWRP/root again.

If already rooted, make sure you have your unlock.bin file that LG sent you -- since you will need it again.

If you've not done any of that yet, this update shouldn't make you ineligible for bootloader unlock. That eligibility is decided by the IMEI range in the LG Developer Bootloader Unlock list website, not what version of firmware you are running.

My open market LG US998 V30+ cannot be rooted right now, and I'm keeping my wife's open market US998 V30 just stock. (I don't have time to mess with two rooted phones.) So those two are now on the latest Nougat 10D.

My other open market LG US998 V30 (my spare) is bootloader unlocked, rooted, has TWRP and is still on earlier 10C. For me, right now it's not worth the hassle of what I just described to you, when I feel Oreo is coming very soon. I'm already on the "Oreo" compatible TWRP on that one. When US998 Oreo comes, I'll decide then whether to relock bootloader, upgrade or leave as-is and just install Oreo custom ROM. I've resisted installing ROM (even though some are already Oreo, based on South Korea/Europe Oreo) because I've been helping out the T-mobile guys.

I think I'll take the advice and wait for Oreo update. I'm on weta 1.5 rooted us998. Thanks man!

I'd rather wait for the Oreo update.

My mqa is broke on weta. Just tried to stream a tidal masters and there is no audio. Pronably going back to stock.
Using the wetamod app to turn off dolby digital plus made mqa audio work again. So basically dobly digital breaks mqa if it is installed at all for some reason

I have gone through the thread as advised
I saw two users post that they go their phone unlocked and it is working perfectly fine.
But I need clarifications on what needs to be done(I do not have octopus and I don't know if this is a requirement for the sim-unlock process).
Should I flash the US998 kdz you posted here using the steps specified here.
Or ther are still some things that needs to be done.

I will appreciate you response as I'm about to give it a trial.

Thank you.
Yes, I flashed my locked LS998 into VS996 with LGUP developer mode (PARTITION DL, Select All) and Oreo, VS99620a_11_0207_ARB00.kdz so I'm able unlock it, phone call is OK on CDMA network but no data and have not tried a GSM network SIM yet.
NOTE: the phone will likely loop booting and you will have to do the master reset using buttons:
1. Press and hold the Power and Volume down buttons.
2. When the LG logo appears and quickly release the Power button only and press Power button again but keep pressing the Volume down button until you see the screen to select Yes to erase and reset everything.

Brought to my attention for some reason the recent US998 10D Android File Hosts download link was giving a 404 error message. Seemed a digit was missing on the end of the link, now fixed. I swear it was working earlier...

I also added another download link to the op.

Anyways, if you have any problems downloading you have two different sources now.

NO, it's still not Oreo.

Maybe LG is going to surprise us with 8.1.
No, they won't. They won't give any other variants what they haven't given to South Korea variants first.

If/when South Korea variants get 8.1, after that it will trickle to other V30/V30+.

20A is out today... carrier-free 128GB version but seems like yall are sharing these between all US998 variants. YMMV.

You can download the US99820a_04_0330.kdz here from my codefire directory.

You have to do a master reset and then you can use LGUP to upgrade to Oreo US998.

https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=76510671

Once on US998 Oreo, you can bootloader unlock and root , If you wish.

Chazzmatt, which of the two Patched lgup downloads should I use to Frankenstein my phone from Verizon vs996 to get to nougat, then to Oreo (I am on 8.0, but know that I need to do the process)?

Also, if I do the Frankenstein, but wait to do the actual "wtf" boot loader unlock a few days/weeks, can I still keep the "automatic system updates" off in the developer section? Right now, it is turned off.

I just want to make sure that option is still available in the nougat/Oreo US998 developer options.

Thnx.

Use the one with "patched" in the file name.

Would upgrade (in LG UP) be the best way to update to the latest rom? I'm a on a verizon model converted to us998 and already have the bootloader unlocked. I'm not sure the best way to do updates when new kdz's comes out.

If you have US998 unlocked bootloader, then you're already on the latest US998 Oreo firmware.

(By the way, this thread is for US998 Nougat.)

If we get a newer US998 Oreo, then @westwood24 says he'll be glad to create a TWRP flashable zipped file for us -- like he helpfully did with latest European H930 Oreo KDZ. I will definitely post a link to that in the Oreo US998 thread, besides he will make a separate thread. Whenever it happens.

Here's how to install Dev Patched LGUP:

    1) Download and install REGULAR LGUP and then go the LGUP folder on C:\Program Files (x86)\LG Electronics\LGUP and replace the "normal" files with the Dev Patched files (attached to this post).

    Install LG Drivers.

    REBOOT THE COMPUTER.

    2) Alternatively, you can create the folder yourself and just place the Dev Patched LGUP files there.

You should create LGUP folder at "C:\Program Files (x86)\LG Electronics"
Then you download "LGUP+V30DLL_PATCHED.zip" file (attached to this post) and unrar.
Copy all file after unrar to C:\Program Files (x86)\LG Electronics\LGUP
    Connect device and run LGUP.exe
    Done :D
(IMPORTANT YOU INSTALL DEV PATCHED LGUP IN THE RIGHT PLACE. The dev patched LGUP needs to go where regular LGUP is normally installed, so it will run correctly.)

    Install LG Drivers.

    REBOOT THE COMPUTER.

However, some people report better success installing "regular" LGUP first.

    Here's how to flash:

    * If you want to have the developer LG UP version, then you need both patched .dll and patched LGUP.exe. Attached a .zip that simply has to be unpacked in the LGUP folder and it will work right away. Dev LG UP looks like this:
    J2QAOrh.png

.DLL for all the variants I've found firmwares on XDA was the same[/SIZE].

    SOLVED:

as i read in other post. Flashing a .KDZ on a unlocked bootloader messes things up.

    What i did to solve:

Went into fastboot mode 'adb reboot bootloader'
relocked the bootloader 'fastboot oem lock'
rebooted to OS and skipped all configuration.
    Activated developer mode
re enabled OEM unlock (it was grayed out before but now it could be switched since i relocked bootloader)
    Went into bootloader mode again
Flashed my unlock.bin again 'fastboot flash unlock.bin'
rebooted into OS and skipped configuration
Activated developer mode and usb debuggin (OEM unlock is now grayed out but in ON position)
Entered fastboot mode once again and flashed TWRP img
manually entered in recovery mode (combo buttons vol+power until logo and then hold power)

Now i have fully stock ROM and TWRP
*important* it is highly recommended to use the original cable to do the flashing. (had problems with other cables until tried the original one)

Hope this help anyone else in the future

When you flashed Verizon VS9996 Oreo to US998, how did the phone identify itself in About Phone? Still as US998 or as VS996?

Sent via open market LG US998 V30/V30+

VS996. LGUP even saw it as a 996.

I'm downloading the 10c kdz posted by ChazzMatt and pulled the kdz tools at https://github.com/ehem/kdztools to make a twrp flashable zip tonight following the instructions given here https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-l90/general/guide-how-to-make-flashable-zip-roms-t2853084. If all goes well, I'll post the zip. In full disclosure, this is the first time for me to do this and I do not yet have a phone to test, still waiting for lg to start issuing v30+ bl unlock codes.

There was a guy who had his bad ESN LS998 "converted" into U.S.Cellular US998, so he could use a SIM card. But he still had Sprint firmware on his device, from what he described...

If you find out more, we're interested.

Sent via open market LG US998 V30/V30+

I unlocked my Sprint LG V30+ through an eBay seller claiming his SIM unlock technique was 100% successful. I was hesitant and grilled him about his methods before caving in and letting him tinker with my phone. I think it's the same method as the Chinese person on Baidu. It's done through LG Octopus and a custom US998 firmware that is modified to work for the Sprint variant. I am using it with a global AT&T SIM (working 100%) and the software appears to be stock Nougat US998 with no bloat.
