For whatever reason, attempting to download latest firmware of Nougat for Frankenstein method results in an error. I've failed to download it multiple times. There any other mirrors? This is the only download doing this. Others seem to work. Does it matter which one I use anyway, if I'm just flashing to Oreo anyway?

No, doesn't matter which Nougat, 10C or 10D.

However, if you really want to experiment, try a different browser? It shouldn't matter whether Chrome, Firefox or Internet Explorer, but sometines things are quirky.

I'm not sure why you're posting this Oreo H930DS question in the US998 Nougat KDZ thread... It's not about Nougat, and it's not about US998.

You can't use Uppercut in Oreo. Uninstall Uppercut, reboot PC, install dev patched LGUP. Flash the KDZ you want, in DL PARTITION mode. But it will NOT be this one. ;)

I have a the H930DS.. For the frankenstein method I wanted to confirm if the NOUGAT US998 is mandatory or can it be a NOUGAT INDIA firmware too? Reason I ask is, I'm currently downloading the pre-July v20b firmware from one if the mirros you provided and the download keeps failing. I have to keep manually retrying for the download to continue. I found another link where the IND nougat is available https://lg-firmwares.com/downloads-file/13473/H930DS10f_00_OPEN_ESA_DS_OP_0319.kdz and I was wondering if this would be fine for the Frankenstein method

You cannot flash any North American variants over H930DS. Do not flash US998 over H930DS. You have read nothing in the Instructions telling to to do that.

Since you mentioned pre July firmware, I assume you really want to unlock your bootloader, install TWRP and root?

Are you confusing Frankenstein with WTF? Most North America variants (except H932) have to use Frankenstein during the WTF instructions, to get fastboot flash commands. But Frankenstein existed already before WTF, to carrier unlock North America phones, like H931 and LS998.

You need to thoroughly read the WTF INSTRUCTIONS.

The H939DS doesn't need Nougat for bootloader unlock and root. Only North American variants TEMPORARILY need US998 Nougat to get to pre-July Oreo.

Frankenstein is used on North America variants to get them fastboot flash commands. H930DS already has fastboot flash commands.

For H930DS, you just need pre-July Oreo firmware to run the WTF exploit. Use either H930DS or H930 pre-July Oreo firmware.

From what I've read, I assumed, if anyone is on the post-July firmware (I'm on v20c) we needed to go back to a pre-July firmware (v20b) and for that we would first need to go to Nougat and then back to pre-July for unlocking the bootloader and root.

Apologies for this. I guess I got confused and this I why I wanted to make sure I'm doing the steps right

Based on what you've mentioned does it mean I can load the pre-July firmware directly? Should I be using the "Partition DL" option or "upgrade" will work? (I'm on v20c-IND currently)

I'm very new to flashing on LG phones so please forgive my naivety

From what I've read, I assumed, if anyone is on the post-July firmware, we need to go back to a pre-July firmware

This part is correct for everyone, all variants.

and for that we would first need to go to Nougat and then back to pre-July for unlocking the bootloader and root.

This part is not correct for all variants.

The goal stated clearly at the top of the WTF instructions:
1) pre-July Oreo firmware -- for the early Oreo bootloader unlock exploit
2) fastboot flash commands -- to run the exploit and install TWRP.

Of the North American variants, ONLY the US998 has fastboot flash commands. Thus the need to Frankenstein most of them to US998, if they are not that already. (U.S. T-mobile H932 is an island to itself; anything I say in this post do not apply to H932.) And to get most North American variants converted to US998, they have to go through extra stage of US998 Nougat to get to US998 Oreo. LG threw in some code to block most North American non-US998 variants from flashing straight to US998 Oreo. So, the Nougat step is ONLY for North American variants trying to convert to US998, to get fastboot flash commands and pre-July Oreo.

Whereas all the H930 variants -- H930, H930DS, H930D, H930G, etc --- already have fastboot flash commands. ;) It's EASIER for you.

You just need to temporarily downgrade to pre-July Oreo firmware.

I'm very new to flashing on LG phones so please forgive my naivety

But I wrote a very extensive guide, in in the WTF thread. You should be following those instructions. They answer all questions. There's even decision tree type stuff -- if you have H930DS you do this, if you have some other variant, then you do that...

You have to read all that thoroughly. I'm only repeating myself here, when it's already typed out THERE.

Based on what you've mentioned does it mean I can load the pre-July firmware directly? Should I be using the "Partition DL" option or "upgrade" will work?

You would use Partition DL to downgrade to pre-July Oreo firmware for the H930DS.

Is there a TWRP flashable zip of this KDZ somewhere??

If you mean US998 Nougat 10c or 10d, no there is not.

We didn't get any TWRP-flashable zips until after a few Oreo updates. @westwood24 graciously provided for Oreo US998 and H930, and @seadersn and @JohnFawkes -- and others -- have continued that endeavor.

That's why there's no TWRP zip (and not needed) for US998 20a, b, c. TWRP-flashable zips started with US998 20d.

You CAN flash US998 10c or 10d Nougat with LGUP, install TWRP and root, as long as you already have unlocked bootloader.

But, all Nougat is really good for us just temporary stage for Frankenstein to get to US998 Oreo for bootloader unlock and root. There are so many camera and audio improvements (LG DTS 3D Stereo framework) in stock Oreo.

I see, thank you... I saw an app called KDZZ that allowed making TWRP zips from KDZ files and hoped someone had made a US99810C Nougat zip for TWRP.

I'll need to downgrade with LGUP then it seems. Thanks again.

also... do you know if TWRP 3.3.1-0 is available for the V30? I don't see it listed on the TWRP offical page and am too afraid to download another hardware version from the offical app.

No, do not use the TWRP app.

We have UNofficial TWRP, which doesn't mean anything except our dev doesn't have time to jump through all the official hoops.

He tried creating 3.3 for use, and there's a buggy beta for it, but he says to please continue using 3.2.3.7 STABLE -- same version linked in the WTF instructions.

It works fine with Pie.

Alright I have tried everything in this thread and the others with zero success.
This is what I am trying to do.

I am trying to do a full refurb of my US Cellular US998 LG V30+ so I can relock the bootloader and sell it online. I have recently upgrade my phone due to the whole Verizon CDMA sunset thing and the LG models are going to suck later down the line.

Anyway I can see the phone in LGUP in every mode EXCEPT for download mode.
As soon as it goes into Download Mode, it does not appear in the device manager and subsequently does not proceed to flash because of that.

I have tried manually going into Download Mode (Vol up plus plugging in with cable) Tried different cables, different types of USB ports (USB 2.0, 3.1). Reinstalled the drivers after a full registry clean and device manager hidden devices clean. re-installed all the different versions of LGUP that are posted in this thread and the others...

All do the same thing. Cannot see the phone once its in download mode.

Does ANYONE have any suggestions at all on what to do next?

I mean I CAN just sell it as is, but I would rather it be fully back to factory before I did.

PS. Also not a newbie to this crap either. I was a service Tech at US Cellular for 9 years before they got rid of us all due to them starting to sell Apple devices (They'll tell you its not, but it IS because they didnt want ANYONE repairing those devices and we were all let go mere months after starting to carry it - NOT coincidence). Also still do phone repair on the side from time to time, but this issue has me stumped.

Here's how to install Dev Patched LGUP:

    1) Download and install REGULAR LGUP and then go the LGUP folder on C:\Program Files (x86)\LG Electronics\LGUP and replace the "normal" files with the Dev Patched files (attached to this post).

    Install LG Drivers.

    REBOOT THE COMPUTER.

    2) Alternatively, you can create the folder yourself and just place the Dev Patched LGUP files there.

You should create LGUP folder at "C:\Program Files (x86)\LG Electronics"
Then you download "LGUP+V30DLL_PATCHED.zip" file (attached to this post) and unrar.
Copy all file after unrar to C:\Program Files (x86)\LG Electronics\LGUP
    Connect device and run LGUP.exe
    Done :D
(IMPORTANT YOU INSTALL DEV PATCHED LGUP IN THE RIGHT PLACE. The dev patched LGUP needs to go where regular LGUP is normally installed, so it will run correctly.)

    Install LG Drivers.

    REBOOT THE COMPUTER.

However, some people report better success installing "regular" LGUP first.

    Here's how to flash:

    * If you want to have the developer LG UP version, then you need both patched .dll and patched LGUP.exe. Attached a .zip that simply has to be unpacked in the LGUP folder and it will work right away. Dev LG UP looks like this:
    J2QAOrh.png

.DLL for all the variants I've found firmwares on XDA was the same[/SIZE].

    SOLVED:

as i read in other post. Flashing a .KDZ on a unlocked bootloader messes things up.

    What i did to solve:

Went into fastboot mode 'adb reboot bootloader'
relocked the bootloader 'fastboot oem lock'
rebooted to OS and skipped all configuration.
    Activated developer mode
re enabled OEM unlock (it was grayed out before but now it could be switched since i relocked bootloader)
    Went into bootloader mode again
Flashed my unlock.bin again 'fastboot flash unlock.bin'
rebooted into OS and skipped configuration
Activated developer mode and usb debuggin (OEM unlock is now grayed out but in ON position)
Entered fastboot mode once again and flashed TWRP img
manually entered in recovery mode (combo buttons vol+power until logo and then hold power)

Now i have fully stock ROM and TWRP
*important* it is highly recommended to use the original cable to do the flashing. (had problems with other cables until tried the original one)

Hope this help anyone else in the future

When you flashed Verizon VS9996 Oreo to US998, how did the phone identify itself in About Phone? Still as US998 or as VS996?

Sent via open market LG US998 V30/V30+

VS996. LGUP even saw it as a 996.

I'm downloading the 10c kdz posted by ChazzMatt and pulled the kdz tools at https://github.com/ehem/kdztools to make a twrp flashable zip tonight following the instructions given here https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-l90/general/guide-how-to-make-flashable-zip-roms-t2853084. If all goes well, I'll post the zip. In full disclosure, this is the first time for me to do this and I do not yet have a phone to test, still waiting for lg to start issuing v30+ bl unlock codes.

There was a guy who had his bad ESN LS998 "converted" into U.S.Cellular US998, so he could use a SIM card. But he still had Sprint firmware on his device, from what he described...

If you find out more, we're interested.

Sent via open market LG US998 V30/V30+

I unlocked my Sprint LG V30+ through an eBay seller claiming his SIM unlock technique was 100% successful. I was hesitant and grilled him about his methods before caving in and letting him tinker with my phone. I think it's the same method as the Chinese person on Baidu. It's done through LG Octopus and a custom US998 firmware that is modified to work for the Sprint variant. I am using it with a global AT&T SIM (working 100%) and the software appears to be stock Nougat US998 with no bloat.
