Yea but's different from what I had before i foolishly ran oem lock.... I'm trying to relock and return to stock before i ship it off to a buyer on swappa ... any suggestions?

also it's not restarting at all ;(

Try Master Reset?

I don't know. Someone like @runningnak3d might know.

I've never relocked a bootloader - - I sell unlocked and tell buyers I've saved them time/effort by already doing it for them. :)

I know before you relock you should flash back to full stock KDZ.

If you locked the bootloader without reverting to stock, your best bet is to try and get into download mode and flash the stock kdz back to your phone.

Or if you can boot into fastboot and unlock the bootloader.

Question...Are there advantages/disadvantages to skipping no-verity-op-encrypt w/ newer TWRP and retaining force encrypt? Previously reformated to decrypt data for TWRP 3.2.1 to work... Better preformance w/o force encrypt? Better Security with force encrypt?

More of a security and recovery issue for the data partition. If you try to recover your encrypted data partition, you will need recovery keys and follow the right procedure.

I backup my stuff using titanium, so not really for me.

Quick question. I have an H931 converted to US998, and I'm on 20d, rooted. If I use LGUP, is there a way to flash 20e and preserve data and TWRP? I believe TWRP can be saved if I uncheck some recovery options in partition DL. That's my main concern. If I lose data, I have TIBU backups. Thanks in advance!

See below:

If you do have TWRP then you need to use the DL PARTITION mode but uncheck the recovery partitions so you keep TWRP. Then boot to TWRP using fastboot commands, reinstall magisk as well as the no encryption and no Root Check files. Don't try to use the hardware button dance to get into TWRP.

Then restore data via TWRP or Titanium Backup.

Thanks for maintaining the older versions on this thread, they are a godsend.

You are welcome. Pre-July 2018 Oreo firmware is needed for WTF exploit bootloader unlock and root, so that's one reason in particular I keep US998 20A and 20B KDZ hosted. In other threads, I also host pre-July 2018 firmware for Europe H930 as well as H930DS -- and even a thread the India H930DS (which is has specific VoLTE configuration). The US998, H930, H930DS all have fastboot flash commands. (The H930G probably does also but it's basically an "H930 V30+", so even if it didn't have fastboot flash commands someone could flash the H930 KDZ.)

Between the US998 20A, 20B (both pre-July 2018) and 20D (the start of the exploit block) there was also US998 20C with June 2018 security patch. I have a copy but never uploaded it to this thread, as it's not really needed. 20A or 20B fulfill the purpose of what we need for WTF -- and as soon as you unlock the bootloader, you're probably moving onto newer firmware anyway. ;) 20B also has silent notifications fix, so it was an actual maintenance release, not just security patch. 20C was just June 2018 security patch update -- with no other improvement from 20B. Initially it was reported the WTF exploit would be blocked with June 2018 security patch, but for all others (H930, H930DS) that actually came with July 2018 security patch. (You'll still find old posts where we warned people not to install the JUNE 2018 security patch unless you've unlocked your bootloader first. We didn't know if you could still roll back to earlier firmware. I have a lot of experience with Motorola phones where that's impossible with a locked bootloader... ) So, I've never uploaded 20C as either it's not needed for WTF (since we have 20A and 20B) or it's just older firmware that may indeed block WTF.

Who knows, one day I may upload it just have the complete inventory of US998 firmware. :p If I do, I'll still recommend people use 20A or 20B for WTF.

I also maintain the Nougat US998 firmware in another thread, as it's needed for one step in Frankenstein -- to temporarily convert other North America V30/V30+ to US998 (except for U.S. T-mobile H932 which has different RSA encryption).

Besides the answer I gave about dev patched LGUP, TWRP and Titanium Backup, also keep in mind we should be getting another US998 update by end of November, 20F. LG has been releasing them about every two months, and cannot go longer than three months according to the agreement they signed with Google to put the V30/V3o+ on the Android Enterprise Recommended list:

https://androidenterprisepartners.withgoogle.com/device/#!/17
https://www.android.com/enterprise/recommended/requirements/#knowledge
Security update support: 90-day security updates (for three years)
Major update release support: Support current shipping release + one letter upgrade[/B]

This kicked with Oreo as devices have to have Oreo to be on the Android Enterprise Recommended list.

Anyway, I've discussed with @seadersn to make a TWRP-flashable version whenever US998 20F is released.

Hi Matt. I flashed 20d with TWRP (thanks to @westwood24). Can I use LGup to upgrade to 20e without losing my apps? Is the update even worth it (I removed a bunch of system bloat already)?
No, not worth it. It's just September security update. We'll have November in a few days (probably), and TWRP flashable.

That is great news. I certainly hope ww is OK, the repackaged roms he made under difficut circumstances were a real service to the community. They are sooo much easier to use than LGUP.

I had delved into making a flashable zip myself and got as far as fixing up the kdz tools to work around errors and extracted components from the 2D rom. I gave up there since I lacked the confidence to modify partition images in a way to avoid problems with the bootloader and loss of twrp. It seems like a faster route would be to install the kdz to a phone and make the zip from those partitions perhaps using a twrp backup or via dd? Would your mind sharing a high level description of the process with the curious.

Yep im working on the us998 20E flashable now. Ive have it uploaded later tonight when i get off work. Ill also be taking over the kdz flashable zips for us and verizon from now

Thanks. I just confirmed with @seadersn you'll probably be taking over his Verizon VS996 "ROM" thread.

When you upload the US998 20E "ROM", I'll link to it in post #1. Just create a separate thread for the US998 TWRP flashable files so people can discuss it there? I suggest making one thread and then just keep stacking the future ROMs in that thread -- like I do here with the US998 KDZ. But, of course, you can handle it however you like. :)

Yep i already planned in making a seperate thread. My zips and probably seadersons as well will have volume key options to remove force encryption and verity to reduce the need of multiple zips. We couldn't figure out the proper way to remove verity so we are bundling @Zackptg5s (and ive already gotten permission from him) force encryption and verity zip inside the rom zip and the user will use the volume keys to either keep encryption and verity or remove verity but keep encryption or remove both.

Also, US998 20F should be showing up soon... Thank you for doing this.

For bootloader unlock purposes, use the US998 KDZ versions with pre-July 2018 security patch: I recommend 20a or 20b.
Look at the names for dates in the title. You can always update to newer firmware later, AFTER bootloader is unlocked. Flashing a newer KDZ will not relock your bootloader. See bottom of post for instructions on how to downgrade to earlier firmware.

ONLY USE MAGISK 18.X ON OREO TWRP-FLASHABLE ZIPS!

If you are installing/updating latest US998 firmware for the first time after bootloader unlock/root, you should flash 20e zip (below), then 20f zip, 20g zip, 20h zip back-to-back in TWRP, then flash Magisk. If you go straight to 20h via TWRP-flashable zip from very early Oreo, you will most likely have problems. There were massive changes starting with US998 20f and you need the prior 20e as foundation before going on to 20h. You should also do this if coming from a custom ROM.

Also flashing magisk in between each and rebooting in between each is not needed. You can add all (zips) to the queue and flash at once then flash magisk and then reboot. Tested this method with the us998 zips and works just fine

Flash the "ROM" with latest TWRP, after wiping caches. Reflash Magisk immediately afterwards, before rebooting to system. It's just stock KDZ but in TWRP-flashable version. Not debloated nor meant to be updated in the future. It's just a very convenient mechanism to have newer stock firmware instead of using dev patched LGUP to flash partitions, etc. Go to this thread and thank him.

Screenshots below are for previous firmware and only demonstrate how to upgrade full KDZ using LGUP.

HOW TO (temporarily) DOWNGRADE BACK TO OREO FOR BOOTLOADER UNLOCK
(or DOWNGRADE BECAUSE YOU DON'T LIKE PIE)

    1) DOWNLOAD FIRMWARE AND DEV PATCHED LGUP

    * Download Oreo KDZ you wish to install -- for bootloader unlock would be US998 20a or 20b. You can update to more current firmware AFTER unlocking bootloader on early Oreo.
(If you just don't like Pie, then choose the most recent Oreo KDZ, which is US998 20h at the top.)

    * DOWNLOAD THIS DUAL VERSION OF DEV PATCHED LGUP, made by @tecknight:
    https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=11410963190603845019
(Or use attached file from bottom of this post. Thanks to @tecknight! Please go here and click the THANK BUTTON!)

    _________________

    2) INSTALL DEV PATCHED LGUP

    0. Uninstall any prior LGUP you have. Uninstall anything like Uppercut, which no longer works and causes conflicts with this Dev Patched LGUP.

    1. Extract LGUP_DualMode.zip to a folder on your PC.

    2. Browse into the folder and launch LGUP_Store_Frame_Ver_1_14_3.msi.
Follow the prompts to complete the install.

    3. In that folder, right click and select "Run as Administrator" on "SetDev.bat" to set LGUP to developer mode

    4. Launch LGUP using the desktop shortcut, NOT the Install folder shortcut.

Choose Process : PARTITION DL (all partitions) or REFURBISH

    ----------------------------
    3) DOWNGRADING/UPGRADING ANY LG V30/V30+/V30S TO OREO KDZ FIRMWARE

    1) Go into download mode (power off completely, then hold volume up button while plugging in USB cable)
    2) open patched LGUP and flash OREO KDZ to DL PARTITION mode. In the pop up box "Select All". Use the attached patched LGUP in this post.
You can also use REFURBISH mode, if you wish.
    3) Master Reset (post 101 of Frankenstein thread)
    5) DONE.

It's fairly easy. Most people breeze right through this. But if you have any problems, go through this list:

    • Make sure you in download mode BEFORE opening the patched LGUP file.
This is at the top of the list as some people forget to do that. The remainder are in no particular order. If that doesn't work,
    • Try different USB port,
    • Try different USB cable,
    • Try different computer.
    • Reinstall LG mobile drivers on your PC.
    • Reinstall dev patched LGUP again, making sure the files are placed where they need to go (LG Electronics folder, etc).
    • REBOOT THE COMPUTER.

If you ask for help, that's the list of items we are going to give you anyway. ;)

    J2QAOrh.png

WARNING: In LGUP do NOT go messing with modes not mentioned in these instructions. Especially do NOT use Chip Erase.

    https://9to5lg.com/lgup-1-15-manual-how-to-unbrick-restore-your-lg-devices-with-lgup/
    3) ChipErase: Dangerous, This will erase IMEI/efs, Do not try this if you do not have a NV backup.

    Added US99820b_03_0524 KDZ (2.76Gb)

Right now with this full KDZ, if you are already bootloader unlocked and rooted, to update you need to flash via dev patched LGUP with DL Partition method -- but leave off "recovery" partition to keep TWRP custom recovery. Then in TWRP, reflash Magisk, the "no encryption" file and the "don't check root" file.

If you don't do that, and flash the full KDZ, you will also have to reinstall TWRP.

If we do get a TWRP flashable zip, I'll post the link here in this thread. Then you can just flash THAT in TWRP like a ROM... Until then you can NOT flash this with TWRP. Do NOT post messages that you cannot flash in TWRP. I'm telling you that already. ;)

If you are not bootloader unlocked and rooted, then just flash via LGUP with "upgrade".

    ________
@westwood24, can please make us a flashable zip of this KDZ please? You can make your own thread like you did with the H930 update and I'll link to it. Thank you!
