Main problem with those is they're all huge 20k mAh banks. If he wants that capacity then okay but the one I recommended is compact yet can still charge just as fast as the wall charger because the phone has been capped at 10.5 watts anyway. Although, post 8.1 update it has been ever so slightly faster for the first 60 minutes. I don't have meter readings but my percentages show some improvement.

I agree. 10k mAh would have been about the size of the phone and would be perfect. Still looking to find one that rapid charges Pixel XL 2

So I found this one
PD Portable External Charger Giant,Auckly10000mAh USB Type C Mobile Power Bank,4-Port External Battery with High-Speed Charging,Phone Charger Power Pack for iPhone,Samsung and Other Smart Devices https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0785K8WSB/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_aeRuAbQ8BEBQ2
And I believe it will rapid charge the Pixel XL 2. I'm going to order it and report back. It's really small compared to others and still has 10k mAh.

Here is a Walmart link that describes it as an 18W usb-c PD

Here is a power bank I see on Indiegogo after I bought the dBrand grip. This looks promising and small with PD.

It's not cheep and while it's small it's also a brick. Check out the one I found above.
Yeah it might look small but it's still 20k mAh. It's gonna be thick and heavy.

The Aukey I linked is cheaper at $29.99 and does charge at the same rate as the OEM wall charger.

I was waiting for the soon-to-be released Anker PowerCore+ II 10.000 which is supposed to feature PD and USB-C but unfortunately has no release date yet. But now, learning about the Auckly power bank, I tend to opt for this one. Any concerns?

Just got it and I can confirm that it charges rapidly. This thing is the size of a Nexus 5 but a bit thicker. It definitely is heavy but charging it is done thru the same usb-c port with which you charge your phone.
Really nice design too with nonslip PC type coating.

Edit:
Here is the one I'm talking about:

What's the actual output specs on it? I don't see anything listed in the features or details.

Seems to support PD for 18W. See specs from the device in picture above. I don't see a reason not to buy this. $39 is not a bad deal.

I guess the only things are the Pixel 2 XL is capped at 10.5w still. That may not be true anymore with Android 8.1 as it seems to be just a little faster than prior to the update. Also, Aukey's is $10 cheaper.

I got the RavPower 20100mAh (PD version). It works.

Worst I can say is that it's unwieldy (slightly bigger than the phone itself), but all of the PD 20k+ power banks seem to be...
