This is from their site.
UPDATE NOV 2017: We have made a tweak to the latest batch to improve compatibility with Android for this Type-C DAC. This removes the "skipping" issues previously reported with some phones.
UPDATE NOV 2016: Android 6.X and 7X introduced a bug when this DAC is used with some phones (Nexus, Samsung). It works if you put it in Airplane mode. The problem doesn't occur on computers (Macbooks etc).

If the included adaptor with the phone works without issue I'd get ahold of HiFime and see if they'd replace it.
Yes, in the end I had to return it.

Shame, sound was good (when it worked) and size was perfect. Now I'm on the hunt for another DAC which is small and has decent sound, and an usb-c connection (other than Google's, whose sound quality I don't like).

Here's an Amazon link to the one for the Razor Phone. Says it's THX Certified so don't know what DAC it'd be using.
$20 https://www.amazon.com/Razer-Other-Cable-Phone-Black/dp/B07798HM3H/

Also another Realtek Adapter by LIOOTECH: https://www.amazon.com/Cancelling-External-Universal-LIOOTECH-Essential/dp/B0778QKKFJ/

Also bjrmd added his review of the Realtek adapters: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=74749702&postcount=104
TL: DR it's pretty much the same as the Google one with a slight variance. The google one might be using an older chip but it's confirmed the Google one is a Realtek DAC as well.

Looks like the Geekria ones have dropped to $15 now. So that's good for us.

Tests on the Razor Adaptor: TL; DR not so good. https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=74815415&postcount=127

More options:
CONMDEX: 21.90 for Silver/19.90 for black. Probably another RealTek one. https://www.amazon.com/Adapter-CONMDEX-Headphone-Amplifier-Samsung/dp/B077GS8G3N/
Airsfish: $40 Yeah it's pricy and looks like it uses the same RealTek Chip the others use. Maybe it's a Place holder price? https://www.amazon.com/adapter-AirsFish-Earphone-Converter-Headphone/dp/B077GVVLQZ/

Buyer Beware on this one:
Maybe they were sending out old ones to get rid of stock but they advertise an "Upgraded Version" with a Realtek Chip: But 2 for $9 sounds ...odd https://www.amazon.com/adapter-Headphone-Adapter-Realtek-Conversion/dp/B077MJY3F4/

You guys could get a BT receiver instead and go wireless. The Pixel 2 has aptX-HD so all you'd need is a BT receiver that's compatible with aptX-HD. You can connect your wired headphones and be on your way. You can learn about what aptX-HD is here: https://www.androidauthority.com/aptx-hd-audio-codec-explained-789342/
I don't want something small that has a short battery life, that needs to be charged and is easy to lose. I have my BT headset for that, and at least that stays in the car most of the time.

Most have a longer battery life than phones do and you can just leave them plugged into your headphones to keep them together. You really have nothing to worry about. Something like this is perfect...

I bought a Fiio K1 for my Pixel 2 XL and it doesn't work :(
I couldn't see any mention of the K1 in the thread, wondering if anyone else has tried.
The K1 is confirmed working, it works great with my laptop and PC.

Sorry if I've missed something here but why aren't people just buying the one straight from Google which is $9USD? Availability in other countries?

Because the google one produces a thin sounding sound signature that is inferior to other dongles such as those by HTC and Razer. As more come on the market we should discover others.

FIIO E17K does NOT work. I don't see any reports of Fiio products working on the pixel 2. I don't understand how it worked perfectly on my iPad and iPhone 6 but not on the pixel 2.

I find the Google adapter to be fairly decent but I am curious about what improvements I could get out of a better one.

I considered the Razer one for a few minutes but 22 quid including post and fees is rich for my taste, especially given Razers dubious build quality over the years.

Looks like it'll be a waiting game for better adapters to arrive for a reasonable price.
