Usb charging port

I had a bad usb port but i replaced it with a new one but when i put the charger into the phone nothing happened but before i replaced the old one with the new one when i plug in the cable the phone would turn on but not charge so i tried putting in the bad one and now it does nothing is there something i did wrong
