Voltmeter shows a charge, but I didn't check that before I tried to recharge it. Not sure about that but I did actually install a new battery with a soldering iron. No change. At least you can sell it as is and get a few bucks. There's always someone interested in a mint screen, buttons, cable, charger and even a battery. You can check if it was or wasn't the reason for your faulty nook using a voltmeter.
So, I accept that it's dead but I have a post mortem question about the USB Host Switcher app.
When Verygreen came out with this app in 2011 he included a note that I'll quote here:
So, my question is in the years since this came out, were there any modifications to Host Switcher that might address this issue? Now the important part: When the Nook is in host mode, it drives 5V vbus off the connector at all times. If you connect the nook to a PC in this state, the PC will try to drive it's own vbus. Last time I tried to do this, my usb port in the nook fried! You've been warned! But that was before I had the host mode working and it might have been caused by a number of other things I was doing at the time too. Anyway I am not very keen on repeating this experiment again. If you are curious and decide to try it anyway regardless of the warning, make a comment and tell me what happened
When this first happened, one of my first attempts to charge was to direct connect to my pc usb port. Is it possible that I fried the nook usb port as described?
Nothing I can do about it now, but just curious about it.
