My Jig is on the way but I'm wondering, what exactly is loaded onto it exactly? Is it just some custom software that is what it is or can it be updated down the road for other devices? I'm guessing that's a "No" but figured I'd ask anyways.

The Galaxy S/2 jigs are literally just resistors that tell the hardware to enter download mode and clear the counter. It doesn't actually do anything, but the phone is programmed to elicit this response when a very specific resistence is placed across two of the usb pins. So no, not upgradable, but cheap to make, so thats a plus.

Jigs are really cheap to make. My old home made one from cappy worked fine. But I found them at dealextreme.com for 1.60 including shipping so I bought 2. Only thing is they came from Hong Kong so shipping took like 2 Weeks. But for 1.60 it was worth the wait.

That's a crazy good deal, almost cheaper than making one yourself!

And FWIW, I was also able to re-use my MTV-purchased jig from Captivate to successfully enter download mode and re-set the counter too.

So the ones from dealextreme definitely work with our GS2? Only reason I ask is because the one I bought for my captivate doesn't work with it.

$1.29 for three resisters, some old blue painters tape, about five minutes of playing, triangle gone, counter reset....

Is it simply pins 4 & 5 jumped with a 301k resistor between them? that's all I could find from a really old thread. Any more info or wiring schematics would be great.

Thank you.

There are several threads about making a jig over in the Captivate forums. I have a couple of them linked in the discussion area of "How to Prepare Your Phone to Return to the Store or for Warranty Replacement". Link in signature.

5 bucks? - Why waste $3.40 cents?

On eBay they sell em all day shipped for $1.60 cents. :)
(you can even buy 75 of em for for a hundred bucks shipped)

Just think how many 99 cent McDonalds hamburgers
you can buy with the money you wasted!!! :)
Eh, I bought mine for $8 from MobileTechVideos. I don't mind paying extra for piece of mind.

Are there any instructions on how to use this? Also, if I use this, will anything change on my phone besides the yellow triangle? What I mean is, will using this thing send me back to factory settings or will everything be the same, save for the yellow triangle?

The main reason that the jig is an excellent tool has nothing to do with the
triangle or the counter. Fixing the counter and triangle are just a side benefit.

The main purpose of the jig is simply a way to get the phone into download mode
if all else fails.

With the jig you can restore the phone to a working state even if its soft-bricked.

The jig itself will not reset the phone to factory setting, it only puts the phone
into download mode.

The way it works is you first need to power down the phone one way or another.

If the phone cannot be turned off with the power button then the battery needs
to be removed and replaced before you plug the jig into the usb of the phone.

The phone will go into download mode a few seconds or so after the jig is plugged in.

Once the phone is in download mode you can unplug the jig and get ODIN all setup for
flashing a ODIN compatible rom.
(usually these roms are the stock firmware which came with your phone)

Most ODIN compatible roms will do a data wipe & reset on your phone unless
you only flash certain parts of the rom like the kernel or modem files.

The jig is compatible with most all cell phones which are compatible with ODIN
and which uses the same kind of usb connector as our phones use.
