Eh, I bought mine for $8 from MobileTechVideos. I don't mind paying extra for piece of mind.

Are there any instructions on how to use this? Also, if I use this, will anything change on my phone besides the yellow triangle? What I mean is, will using this thing send me back to factory settings or will everything be the same, save for the yellow triangle?
Everything stayed the same for me. Nothing gets wiped (no data loss) - it just removes the triangle once it puts the phone into d/l mode.

Here is what I did - there's likely other ways to do this :

- turned off phone
- insert jig
- turn on phone
- wait until green text says download mode / don't turn off phone (something like that)
- unplugged jig
- held power button down until phone restarted

That's it.

Followed your instructions, but unfortunately, it sent me into an endless bootloop.

Download mode jig instructions

1. Power down your phone

2. Insert USB jig and wait 5 seconds (don't touch anything, DON'T touch the power button) - if you have a jig set to the proper resistance of 301k ohms it will boot into download mode on its own 5 seconds after the jig is inserted.

3. Wait till you see the normal download mode screen with the addition line of green text indicating it has erased download mode data

4. once you see the above screen remove the jig

5. Press and hold down the power button for about ten seconds to reboot your phone.

Yeah, did that. Still in an endless boot loop. Also tried wiping my data and cache in CMR, as well as tried restoring my back-up of the stock ROM. No luck so far.

I'll try using ODIN to flash the stock ROM back.

The "turn on phone" after plugging the jig in is NOT necessary.
Turn phone off, plug in jig and wait 3-4 seconds or less, BINGO! :)

re: NOT TRUE

I read somewhere that our phones are finicky when it comes to jigs. Some might need the resistance to be slightly higher or lower. Maybe your jig just isn't compatible with your phone.
What's the url of that gossip column you read? :)

All the jigs for cell phones which are compatible with ODIN
use 300ohm resistors + or - 1% .

What he is talking about is that some of the early jig's made that worked with the first Samsung galaxy s models don't work with the galaxy s ii models. It was found that some of the early ones were being made with different wattage resistors that worked on the first galaxy s models and later it was found that galaxy s ii only seems to respond to the 1/4 watt resistor.

So yes the Samsung galaxy s ii is more sensitive, but it is now the ohm value that changes, that has always been ~ 301k, but it does matter what type wattage resistor - 1/4 is needed for the galaxy s ii.

That's correct, especially since the higher wattage resistors
tend to be less accurate than the 1/4 watt ones.

I have found that 1/4 watt ceramic resistors can be
off by 2 to 3 ohms plus or minus and still work.

Except to clear off the Examination point. What else it can do?.
If that's it we already have a thread to show to to get rid of it. Not sure why we are all crazy about the JIG. :)
And download mode, with new kernel from Entropy we can get there in 1 sec.
Sorry if i miss any other "advanced" features :)

One other thing the download mode jig resets the binary flash counter, if at any point you had the triangle warning on the boot splash then your binary counter has been incremented.

If and when we start seeing Ports from gs2 international roms and newer firmwares is when a jig may come in handy. If you ever flash something that changes the button method of getting into download mode then a jig is the only way to fix a bad flash. Back on the captivate there were several newer stock roms that made it so that 3 button recovery and download mode didn't work. A 2$ jig saved many very expensive phones from becoming paperweights.

Does anyone else's jig go in extremely tight? Mine worked fine which I just got, wasn't expecting it to be so stubborn to get in though.

Bought jg from mobiletech

I bought my usb jig from mobile tech shut phone off and inserted jig. Phone went right to download mode but it did not reset the flash counter? Am I doing something wrong? How long should it take to reset everything?

Did you at any point flash the leaked 2.3.5 update?

Yes. I am now running unnamed v1.0.4 android version 2.3.4
No unnamed ROM would not cause this. Only the boot loaders from the 2.3.5 updates cause the jig not to work.

In this forum only the leaks posted by dg. And if you have flashed anything from the i9100 forum - maybe could of caused it.

Thanks for the tip about 2.3.5. I had flashed the leak some time ago, but since changed it. I flashed the secondary bootloader in the android devlopement forum and viola!!! The jig worked. Counter reset and triangle is gone!!!! Sweet. thanks again
