When you attach your beautifull Lumia 800 to your pc it will be detected by zune and only accesible by zune.
Now Here a small reghack to make it accesible through "computer" so you can just copy paste anything!

Press Win+R to display the run dialog box, type regedit.exe, and then click ok.
On Vista and Windows 7, you may receive a UAC prompt -- click yes to proceed.
When the registry editor opens, drill down to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\USB
Press Control+F to display the registry search dialog
In Find What, type zunedriver -- uncheck data box to make searching faster, then click Find Next

Regedit will jump to the correct key -- now you need to click to the Device Parameters key above it
In the right pane, double-click ShowInShell and change its value from 0 to 1
In the right pane, double-click PortableDeviceNameSpaceExcludeFromShell and change its value from 1 to 0
In the right pane, double-click EnableLegacySupport from 0 to 1

The result:

I''ve had no problems so far, but to be safe, make a registry backup first!
You can edit the registry key back to its original value to UNDO this..

One final note! when copying music to your device using this method all songs will have an unknown album and artist, it will just use the fil names and this makes identifying tracks alot harder! you ahve been warned!

Ofcourse THANK me if this helps in any way!

Well today I've tried on Vista.

I found the Zunedriver registry key, I got to the DeviceParameters one level higher.
ShowInShell changed to 1
PortableDeviceNameSpaceExcludeFromShell changed to 0
EnableLegacySupport to 1

Rebooted just to be sure, connected phone. Zune autolaunch happened. Opened Computer window in explorer browser... nothing. just my regular disks.

Troubleshooting?

well, if that picky... the method described in this thread doesn't work on vista, but with help of the application of another developer here, it can be made working in an equal way. maybe even the reg values in the first post are identical to the reg values the small application does. but, i have not verified this as it is working now. by the way you see only audio, video, etc folders.

Ok

I see in Computer> 2 devices called nokia lumia..
In one of them there is a disk.
And on the disk you can see 5 folders..
albums, artists, music, pictures and playlists

So it might indeed do the same.

i think both methods have equal results. drawback i fin is that you'd need to change reg settings on each and every computer you connect to. that makes it difficult to function as usb drive on office computers without zune and without reg access. also you can do nothing with obscure files from the phone, because it doesn't see the phone-unknown filetypes
