I noticed (I think in the dev thread at some point) about Location services not working in CM9. I noticed something similar on my own NC when I installed CM9 (on both SP2 and one of the unofficial nightly builds). I read someone say that a different version of Maps will resolve this issue, but I have yet to determine which one, and if this is actually true.

Anyway, I realized this morning that while location wasn't working for most of my applications (i.e. Maps (when you try to have it go to your location, it says "Please enable a My Location source in system settings"), Facebook, etc) that Latitude was updating my location, even though Maps refused to find my location.

To add to the mystery, I also installed TetherGPS from the market (you'll also need to enable Mock Locations for this app to work), and even without tethering it to anything, the location stuff (for all the apps that used to not work) magically start working!

Has anyone else noticed this? Any idea why this is happening?
I haven't tested this but there is an option in setting to enable wifi location that is not selected by default. It may help.

I hate asking, but I've finally gotten to a point where I'm frustrated enough and the answers aren't coming anymore. After finally getting the build environment setup (Ubuntu NIC dies if more than 1 CPU assigned to the VM?) I've run into a couple issues where no resolution has seemed to work. I'm running off fattires setup doc using Ubuntu 10.10 in a VM (VHD either Hyper-V or Virtualbox).

1) Repo sync only seems to download 3.5-4GB worth of data and stalls. ^C breaks nothing and the terminals states the process is still running if I go to close it. I've monitored the data usage on the NIC and can confirm there is nothing being pulled down after that point. I can't confirm exactly what files this is on, but seems to be around the same point every time. Was there a change in the setup information that I missed?

2) ADB does not recognize the NC. I thought this was possibly that the VM software I was running didn't have any specific USB support, but switched to Virtualbox and am getting the same thing. The VM software recognizes it (it shows under USB devices in the window) but Ubuntu doesn't seem to pick it up. I did a lsusb and don't seem to be getting it. I created the udev file for /etc/udev/rules.d (or whatever the location was as listed) using the Vendor and Product ID shown from the VM device listing, but no go. I thought about using wireless ADB, but don't know if the script to pull the NC files for the build would work (anyone confirm?)

Thoughts?

I think the users in the dev thread would probably be more of a help to you

(my multi quote not working...)

I newly have ICS/CM9 working. Generallly v. nice!

  • Response of UI is slowish compared to CM7 or Phiremod. Maybe the browser (see below)
  • Location does not work in general for me (y, checked the use WIFI for location option)
  • Setting WIFI to turn off when sleeping with/without power means (for me) WIFI stays off after waking up. Gotta turn WIFI off/on in settings to get WIFI back.
  • Browser (stock) always running, using a lot of cpu, not very responsive
Fyi/Thanks

My experience with repo sync in a vm was abysmal, even with 7MB/s DSL. I ended up doing it on a Ubuntu box and rsync-ing it to the vm. If you're wondering why I didn't just stick with the box, I'm traveling back and forth to a remote work location, running the command-line-only Xubuntu vm on my win7 laptop.

I successfully pulled the prop files from my NC using the wireless ADB.

I'm trying to flash Samiam's other zip files (the telephony permissions fix and the animation fix) by adding "update-" to the file name, putting it on the boot partition, and booting into recovery, but that doesn't seem to work (I'm running CM9 off an microSD using verygreen's method).

Is there another way to-correctly-flash these files?

Thank you in advance.

its 'update-cm-*' and whatever else comes after is fine.

Anyone else not getting any sleep on sneak peak 2 ? I recall cm7 had a similar problem for a while. Is it possible that the cause is the same?

I had a similar problem; I returned to a CM7 backup (mirage) and then reflashed ICS (13/1 nightly) and now deep-sleep is working.

Funny thing: I forgot to wipe data, and it works without a hitch! Google account, installed apps and all settings (e.g., WiFi networks) remained intact and I haven't got a single FC!

Was it a matter of just moving the files over or did you do a physical drive to VHD?

I'll give the prop files a shot with wireless adb. Prefer it that way, too many cables around my desk as it is.

Thanks.

So I think it installed fine (based on what I saw on screen during recovery), but I still can't find the app I'm looking for in the market. I'm trying to install The Economist app (which worked great on CM7 on my nook) but it's not showing up when I search in the market.

Is there anything else I should be doing?

This is good news, but doesn't appear to work for me. This is actually one of the first things I tried. No matter what, I get no LBS stuff.

I have not actually attempted to connect to a Tether GPS server, but post-install, even running the client, does not make LBS work. If I don't have it running, Maps says to enable a location service, if it's running, it says "Waiting for location".

Is this related to the Sleep of Death (SOD) issue where the nook goes to sleep and can't be woken up without hard rebooting. I get that all the time. Outside of that, everything seems to be working pretty good. But usually at least once a day, I can't wake the nook up and need to reboot.

Per the instructions at http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Barnes_&_Noble_Nook_Color:_Compile_CyanogenMod_(Linux) I ran the extract-files.sh script. And before that, I ran ADBWireless on my NC, and adb connect [ip] on my laptop. extract-files.sh didn't seem to know the difference.

Just reporting that using nightly 0115 I've been successfully clickin' away on my Apple bluetooth keyboard. There's been a couple of glitches like a key gets stuck and it just repeats for ever, but 95% rock solid.

Keep up the fantastic work gents!

Ice Cream Sandwich explained: MTP - what is it, why use it, and how to set it up

I have enabled USB storage in the "USB computer connection", and when connecting the nook to my windows 7 x64 Laptop, it sits there forever trying to find "MTP USB Device" forever, until failing. Anyone know how to get around this?
I had the same thing happen to me. I have not had time to research it yet. I am running winxp.
Windows should have the MTP drivers since WMP10. But my WinXP don't have them!?

Here is a helpfull link:

Can anyone point me to the right drivers for XP?

This may fix your SOD issue

adb shell
cd system/bin
chmod 775 pvrsrvinit

USB host mode ?

Is usb host mode enabled by default or do I have to use a utility to get it enable ? Is there a thread somewhere that deals with usb host mode and CM9 ICS ? Also from what I gathered from searches in the forum so far block devices dont work right ?
