The boot folder is the root of the SDCard.
Oh, OK. Facepalm

**edit**

So I put both zips in the root of my SD card, rebooted recovery, and the recovery script doesn't recognize them. It looks in dev/(something) and I can't find that folder. Therese nothing in that folder that looks close, it starts with a mk....

Are you trying a uSD install? If so... the easiest way to get the files where they need to be is open terminal or adb, make a folder on your sdcard called boot... and mount /dev/block/mmcblk1p1 to /sdcard/boot... in terminal it would be:
su (never had to do this step myself... but wouldn't hurt)
mkdir /sdcar/boot (this only has to be done the first time)
mount /dev/block/mmcblk1p1 /sdcard/boot (this has to be done every time you want to update)

Then move the files to /sdcard/boot and try again.

If you are not trying uSD install... ignore this post... we'll do something different.

You can do it from the nook itself.... you just have to run the above commands to make the correct partition available as /sdcard/boot... then move the files there.

oooohh, thanks i didn't understand at first. i got it now. thanks dizz. i used my computer and it worked fine. i used sam's gapps, is that still needed? or the ones from goo-inside.me? i thought there was an app that wasn't compatible with our nooks?

also, is this how to "flash" other files"? such as the bootanimation fix?

Thanks leap, I've downloaded the zips, where is the boot folder. I don't see it using es file explorer. Do I need to move them with a computer?
Yes, with a computer. Just put it in your card reader and insert in your PC. The boot partition will be the one showing in windows.

But there is a way to have them show up automatically without putting the card in the computer. You must install some files first. See my post in the SD card thread (verygreen's) on February 22.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=58059

Edit: if you are using the newest nightly, use the gapps from goo-insideme, not Sam's (they fixed the NFC issue). If you want to install the extra zips, just make sure they are named update- at the beginning of the filename. Then the script installer will install them just like the nightly.

I'm using a verygreen sd with ICS and I haven't done anything with it for a while (Feb. 25 nightly) so thinking of adding the newest nightly and the GAPPS you suggest. If I've already got gapps-ics-4.0.3-sam-noinit.zip on mine do I just put update-goo-insideme on the card root along with update-nightly and boot to recovery? Just wondering if the goo-insideme gapps version will update the current gapps installed. I think that's what you were saying above. What do you mean by "NFC issue"? (please excuse my ignorance) Mine is working pretty well already though screen rotation is a bit sloppy. Also not sure how or if I can replace the chunky looking multicolored boot animation. It does boot so not too worried about that.

Before you update go here and update your boot files on your SD. I modded them to fix a duplication issue on gapps for SD card users.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=23153010

And go to the goo-inside me site and download the latest gapps. They should be named gapps-ics.... Leave them named that way and put them in the boot partition along with the nightly. It should update your gapps you installed earlier.

It's very easy to put a nice new CM9 boot animation on your system so it stays there after each flash of a new nightly. I am going to post the link in a minute here. Copy the file to the /data/local folder. It will override any boot animation in the nightly. BRB.

The new boot animation looks great.
They do have the new CM9 bootanimation built into the latest nightly. It is rotated 90 degrees, but fills the whole screen. If you are not seeing it, you need to go to /data/local and rename or delete the bootanimation.zip file you have there.

I am asking for confirmation since I have been flashing my own builds for a couple days, but I was wondering...

Has anyone else's magic optimization been, like...ZOMG!?!?

It has truly been off the chain. I would love to know if everyone else has been as optimized, magically, as me.

Fattire put that line in the build.prop for everybody last night (via the awesomizer, LOL). What is it? Is he pulling our chain again?

Is anyone else having a problem with the gapps in eyeballer's recent roms?

I flashed the build from the 15th, and my market (Play store....) fails to run since.
So I restored with CWM and it worked again, but flashing the same ROM, no luck.

I also tried formatting /system, then flashing the rom, gapps, and the ics tweaks, but I still can't add a google account (under settings), so I can't open the play store. I saw somewhere else that I could sign in with google talk, but depending on the reflash, it either was not there, or crashed similar to the play store.

EDIT:
OpenGl is enabled

There is definitely a problem with gapps and the play store. Lots of people are having problems after play store replaces market, even with CM7. I think gapps is somehow corrupting the google credentials. Has anybody tried going to settings, apps and selecting Play Store (or maybe Google Account Manager app) and clearing data and cache there?

Cleared the data and cache for Google Play app (no luck), but what is the account manager listed under?

Tried to restore accounts with titanium from when I had a google account, not a thing happened

Yes, this was a joke... my answer to all the bogus "change such and such and the NC will be 3x faster"... my point being that there's a placebo effect. We did play around though with some of the suggested improvements in IRC doing all kinds of tests and not finding any real difference. Also looked at source and most of them didn't do anything at all in ICS.

So next time someone asks for some unproven change to build.prop you can just tell them it's already included and covered by the ro.magic.optimization property ;) If that doesn't work I'll have to turn on ro.placebo.enhancements=true...

I did, its not even there...maybe this is a problem
It took me a while to track it down. It is GoogleLoginService.apk in /system/app. It sounds like that would be an important app to be able to log in. It is part of the gapps install zip. Look to see if it is in your system. If not, then maybe it did not install properly. Or maybe the google installer did not put it there for some reason. Or it could be there and just not activated? If it is there try installing it. If not there try extracting it from the zip and putting it in /system/app. Be sure to fix permissions to match the other files there. Then reboot and see what happens. Worst that can happen is you have to reflash again.

Edit: Maybe another app to try clearing cache and data on is Google Services Framework.

You had to go public, huh?

I was just about to put up zips and a donate button.
