Someone please help as I am going bonkers. I have a nook hd which I rooted in June 2013 following this thread purely so that I could load xbmc. I have not fiddled with the software since. Everything has been working fine for me as I don't use my tablet for anything other than surfing, reading and watching media.

I had all my ebooks loaded onto the sd card. Recently I deleted all of these from the sd via my pc and after some categorising I added them back onto the nooks sd card. Then I found I had duplicate and triplicate ghost files. All I wanted to do was remove these ghost files from my library. Searches online tell me it's virtually impossible without deregistering the device.

I thought I might be able to do something via root but I can't fine the CWM launcher. I downloaded an app to check for 'Su' but that suggests that I've lost root - I still have the backup I made at the time of rooting almost a year ago. The nook is now on firmware 2.2.0 so I don't even know if the old backup would work.

All I want to do is remove the ghost files but right now I'm not sure what I'm actually working with. If I deregister what will i lose and will I have to start again from the start - rooting, trying to add xbmc and downloading all my apps again?

Not sure what my next step is. I could just leave the ghost files but there are over 1,500 showing as books with useless thumbnails which is confusing. Any help would be very much appreciated!
I assume you mean you had sideloaded epub books to the SD for the stock Nook reader. If so, the stock reader stores its books in /data/nookmedia and may store its sideloaded book information there too (just covers, etc) while the books themselves are still stored on the SD. Deleting the actual books manually may not delete those files.

You could try going to settings and applications and clearing the data from the Nook reader app. If that does not work, try going to /data/nookmedia and manually clearing the files there with your root file manager.

Hi Leapinlar - thanks for your reply. Yes - sideloaded books onto sd for stock reader. Tried your suggestion of clearing the reader cache and data. Unfortunately it didn't help (more unfortunately it deleted the reader app icon - no idea how to get that back lol).

So I tried to clear data manually, but I've definitely lost root privileges. Whilst I can see the folders in file manager, when I tap on them it says the device doesn't have root.

So now the questions are
1. Can I reinstall root leaving everything else in tact so I can try to delete the ghost files without starting from scratch?

If not, then I'll need to erase and deregister and start from the beginning, so
2. can I use the original backup that I've still got on an sd card for an older firmware as this would obviously be quickest?

3. If not, then what is the simplest way to enable root and sideload xbmc on the current stock firmware?

Sorry for all the questions - especially as they're probably very repetitive!

First off, you do not have to erase and deregister. You can erase by using the CWM factory reset and it wipes data but does not deregister you on the B&N site which the erase and deregister does.

But the easiest thing for you to do is just flash my universal root rev3 zip. That gives you root again without wiping anything. And it protects you from future B&N automatic updates like happened before. Then you can try cleaning up the /data/nookmedia folder with your root file manager.

Don't use the old backup since it is the old version and will complicate things. If it comes to starting over, just factory reset with CWM and flash universal root rev3.

You are a honey - thank you.

I mucked things up quite a bit but was able to restore to almost normal by following your advice.

One final and possibly stupid question - if the rev3 zip prevents OTA updates from Barnes & Noble how will I know of any upgrades and how can I then upgrade if I wanted to? Thanks!

Unless you learn by reading here the only way to know is if you catch it trying to update itself and see it fail.

The way to update is to flash a plain stock ROM from my HD/HD+ CWM thread which removes the root and then it can update itself.

Leapinlar, would using the CWM factory reset remove root to enable ota updates too?
No. Only flashing the plain stock zip will remove/replace enough files to allow the OTA. Flashing that zip also keeps all your settings and installed apps where a factory reset wipes all those settings and installed apps without removing/replacing the files necessary to allow an update.

Ahh. I see. I've now downloaded the stock 2.2.0 zip and will add it to my CWM sd card - as a precaution!

Thank you for your patience.:):)

Totally mucked up

Great thanks!
Hello Leapinlar, I asked you a question last week about a problem with my HD+ and though I have tried to do what you suggested, I seem to be getting deeper in the mud! I have CM11 with the lastest nightly update but now the "home" button doesn't work, I tried everything but still no. I tried to install some other roms but it comes back with data1 not available etc, etc. It will not load your stock rom at all, I have gone so far now, I don't know where to go! Can you help a thicko please?

When you tried to install other ROMs, did you use the older versions of CWM from this thread? The CWM you used to install CM11 will not work on older ROMs.

Head spinning

I would like to add kitkat to my Nook HD+. I do not want to root it. I would like to have it run from my SD Card. All of the instructions to do his are for the nook Color (which I have and works great with the dual boot) . If I want to use android system on the Nook Color, I just put in the SD Card. I want to do the same with my Nook HD+. I have looked all over the web and the only thing I can find are N2A SD Cards or Android for Nook cards. I could buy on of these and save myself a lot of headaches But, I'm stubborn in that way. Maybe cheap also. I would appreciate any help with this. Thanks in advance

10. White on White Text for Some Apps

One of the annoying issues with using some third party apps is the HD/HD+ displays some dialogue boxes with white text on a white background so that the text is unreadable. Someone0 and I developed a patch that can repair this. I have a zip in my CWM thread referenced above to repair the HD+ and HD. (Also since stock version 2.1.0, B&N has dramatically changed the color scheme so that the white-on-white issue is no longer the problem it used to be, I have discontinued providing white-on-white mods for version 2.1.0 and above.) If you want to see how to do it manually, click on the "show content" button below.
hi, :)

1. Which of the files should download to fix the problem with white text on white background for Nook Hd + BNTV600 with stock 2.2.0. without root

2. CM10 could put in a SD to test before putting into memory. Some guidance?

3. Someone checked if the color of the screen changes when some of the CM are installed. I saw something about this, and it was necessary to correct it with a blue filter. You know something more about it before deciding to make the move to CM? It is one of the most important points for me.

Thank you very much!

1. As I said in the portion you quoted, I discontinued making white-on-white repair zips for stock 2.1.0 and above. That means there is no repair for 2.2.0.

2. There are threads in the development forum for putting CM on SD.

3. I know noting about the color issue with CM. I run CM10.1.3 fine on my devices (HD/HD+) with no problems.

Hello, thank you very much for the reply!

1 Sorry but I am unsure which is the thread to CM10 in SD.
2 It is possible to return to a previous 2.2.0 update. It was an update once I register. I think I could not avoid it?

Thanks again!

Forget another question:
3 In an installation of CM in SD no modification is required on the device? We just have to pass the room to the sd?

Thank you!
