I don't know what Cyandelta is.

You can go to my tips thread and look at item B5. It will tell you how to install a CWM that has been modified for SD installs. It will do a nandroid for you.

B 5. Using a modified Alternate CWM recovery for SD installs

... But I have modified a CWM recovery (v6.0.1.2) that can be used as an alternate recovery for SD installations. It can be used to modify the SD for everything CWM does EXCEPT FLASHING NEW ROMs to SD. (If you do try to flash a ROM with it, the ROM ends being installed to emmc.) But you can flash other zips (like gapps) as long as it has a generic installer script (and that is almost all install zips except ROM zips and zips that flash kernels or recoveries). For flashing new ROMs zips, continue to copy the install zip to the boot partition like you always have and the script in the boot partition will do the installing for you. This CWM will nandroid backup the SD, wipe dalvik-cache or cache, fix permissions, etc.
So according to this i can't flash "recoveries"....
but make nandroid backups.....
Are recoveries not nandroid backups!???

THANKS!

btw... Iguess cyandelta is a app that lets you just download the changed part of a new nightly instead of the whole file... have read about it in the Cm10 thread...
To people following along here: if you're not using cyandelta to get your updates, you should be. So painless!

No, recoveries are not nandroid backups. CWM and TWRP are recoveries. So what I was saying is you cannot flash new versions of CWM or TWRP with the CWM for SD. But make all of the nandroid backups you want. That is not flashing.

I modified the SD script to handle differential files that are made for Goo Manager, but I doubt they will work with cyandelta.

ok gotcha...

can i use the flash function in goo manager or would i be able to download with goo, but just reboot in recovery?!

also i just used the alternate boot with CWM . . . I thought it was TWRP... it is probably similar, but i am familiar with TWRP...

can this also be used with TWRP . . .?? :)

You can use the differential function in goo manager to download a file. But you still must copy it to the boot partition and boot to SD recovery. I have a script that lets you do that while the card is still in the nook. Look at my item B3, the section that talks about sdboot.

And NO, you cannot use TWRP at all with an SD install.

You should read my WHOLE tips thread and then you can stop asking questions that are answered there.

LeapinLar: I wrote on the CM10 thread that I was stuck at the Cyanoboot flash Screen (for reboot or recovery). You responded, I took your advice and headed to this thread. I followed Paragraph A10 as you recommended and then A8 for a new EMMC CWM. I was back up and running in a...ummm...Flash. The Racks EMMC zip worked for me. The amount of useful information and needed zip files in your thread is truly amazing. Excellent work. Thanks again!

Another appreciative customer here. I lost partitions on emmc, and your zips saved me. Your explanations are very clear and easy to follow, and you've shared a lot of helpful information. Thanks.

Thanks + Question

Having read my way through your posts and tips to installing CM10 on an SD card on my nook, I'd like to thank you for all of your work in making the process so much easier.

Now the question: How can I make it so that I don't have to copy the update from \cmupdater\ into the boot folder? If that's not possible, I'm just fine with copying by hand after downloading, but if it can be done without too much trouble, I like easy.

Thanks again for all your work,
semininja

The simple answer is no.

But one of the changes I made to the sdboot script was to make it show up at the root level without the need for root permission. That way GooManager could download the zip directly to sdboot. With GooManager you can set the download folder. And it worked. until they updated GooManager for CM10. Now it won't. And with CMUpdater you cannot choose the folder to download to. It always goes to the CMUpdater folder. So, no.

Edit: It seems I had installed the wrong version of my own script file. I was using an old one. Now that I have the latest version on my Nook, GooManager still downloads to sdboot just fine. But I don't think they are mirroring the CM10 nightlies on their site. So the modified answer is no to CMUpdater, yes to GooManager.

User Tip B5 Noob Question

"EDIT: (10/29) I just added three SD format zips to the post attachments. I made these zips because I believe they do a cleaner job of wiping than CWM."

For user tip B5, what is the right way to install and/or use the three added SD format zips that were added recently? Thanks in advance!

Since the script installer built into the boot partition does not format anything before installing a new ROM, sometimes it is a good idea to clear things out first. Or maybe your installation is acting up and you want to start fresh without formatting the whole card and losing your media files. You could use the modified Alternate CWM for SD to do it, but not everyone has installed that on their SD. So those zips are just an alternate (and I think cleaner) way to wipe your SD partitions. They can be flashed with any recovery (on emmc or SD) since they are hard coded to format those partitions on SD that are named in the zip title. They have safety checks built in to make sure that you have your partitioned verygreen SD in the slot before they will attempt to format anything. If you are just installing a fresh nightly and you want to keep your data, just use the system wipe (but that means you need to re-install gapps too). If you are having operational problems and want to keep the same ROM, just wipe data. Or if you are putting on a completely different ROM, wipe both system and data.

Edit: I just updated my OP to add this description to item B1. Thanks!

Thank you for the additional information. I'll be checking out the edited OP for tip B1. I also wanted to say thanks for the Alternate CWM for SD since my Paranoid Android 2.55 of 19 November started Boot Looping today after I had put a lot of time into getting it set up with all my apps and I used the Alternate CWM for SD to wipe the cache and the Boot Looping quit immediately afterwards!

You might also want to look at item B3 and the tip about adjusting your dalvik cache. Since the SD install and the emmc install share the same cache partition, it is easy for the dalvik cache for emmc and the SD to get tangled up and maybe corrupted.

Anyone have any tips for supercharger?

CM10 is just far too laggy. Especially because the fiancee's nook is still running 7.2 and it whoops its ass in performance.

Here's what I have done:

- Installed busybox (not sure what this does)
- Installed Script Manager
- Ran V6_SuperCharger_for_Android-update8.sh.txt as su
- Chose option 12 " OOM Group Fixes - Bulletproof launcher

Then I rebooted. Anything else I should try?

CM7.2 has the option to set max CPU over 1.3 GHz which cm10 is maxed at 1.1 GHz. I ran CM7.2 at 1.225 GHz and it was faster than CM10 at 1.1 GHz. We may be pushing the limit on this dated hardware.

Tip B3 Adjusting Dalvik Cache

You might also want to look at item B3 and the tip about adjusting your dalvik cache. Since the SD install and the emmc install share the same cache partition, it is easy for the dalvik cache for emmc and the SD to get tangled up and maybe corrupted.

Thanks again! I have created the local.prop file and put the recommended line in there. You were prophetic about the corrupted cache. I wasn't able to download/install apps on the Stock EMMC side. I was able to deregister but wasn't able to erase locally. I ended up doing the 8 reboots and reinstalling to factory (1.2) and upgrading back to 1.4.3. Unfortunately I had gotten frustrated with Paranoid Android because I was having to wipe cache every time or it would boot loop again. I hadn't read your reply yet and switched to the latest nightly of CM10. On the positive side, the CM10 is working well. The only exception being that the current Netflix didn't work, but I found a 1.8.1 APK that works fine. In the future, I might try Paranoid Android again now that I know what was probably causing its issues...

1.2GHz was stable on one of my tablets, where it rebooted often on another. I run 1.1 daily. I could never get it to run at 1.3Ghz without instant reboot/lock within the first few minutes.

Nook died and won't power up

Hi - Noob here. My daughter was using her rooted nook while slow charging from an airline usb power port. The nook died (screen went black) and I haven't been able to get it to turn on since. I have replaced the battery and used a new charger with no effect. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Near as I can remember I had an older CWM (3.0.2.8?) and Cyanogen Mod 7 running. I read your other posts but didn't see a fix for this. Hopefully this is the right forum. Thanks.
