Using Atrix solely as mp3 player

I recently upgraded to the Galaxy Nexus from my Atrix and now I have a rooted and unlocked PAPERWEIGHT that I can't find a use for.

I can't sell it because there's a dead zone in the capacitor and I had an idea..

Why not use it as an mp3 player?

My question to all is what are the best roms, kernels, under voltage settings, anything you think would be the best to maintain speed, stability and battery life for the sole purpose of listening to music on it?

ANY suggestions are welcome, thanks!

Well, I know this doesn't answer your question really.. but the only thing wrong with it is the touch screen doesn't work properly? You know you can still sell it for parts for a pretty good amount..or have it fixed for 80-100 and sell it for 200.. just saying, its not a complete brick

I've had it posted everywhere with no luck, I think I've settled on keeping it so j can at least get some kind of use out of it.

Any tips? The phone will literally be used for nothing but an mp3 player. Apps safe to freeze without preventing the phone to run properly? Kernels? ROMs? SetCPU or other UV settings/profiles? Launcher even?

I would suggest Neutrino as your daily, or Aura #4, i haven't tested them, but people are reporting great battery life with them. I once heard that a guy did (50+ hours on Aura #4). Use Faux's kernel, and clock it at 800mhz max, and add a profile to make it to 500mhz or 400mhz max when the screen is off. I bet that will save lots of battery. Also remember to turn off WiFi and Bluetooth. About undervolting, im not sure.

And congrats on getting the GN! Lucky boy :)

Any perk to using a CM9 rom over Neutrino, Aura #4, or Alien #4 since I won't be using the phone for ANYTHING except listening to music?

Also, are there any system apps I can freeze with Titanium Backup that won't affect the phone at all since I won't be using the phone, dialer, any e-mail applications, no games, nothing of that sort EXCEPT MAYBE Poweramp or the stock music player?

Neutrino, faux's kernel. Neutrino is extremely stripped down so it won't take up a lot of the processing time. I have the feeling that you could even under clock it to 456 or 312 and be fine. Under volt like crazy, just check what people post in faux's thread.

Just got Neutrino up and running, VERY quick ROM. I'm confused on the Faux kernel though, I'm not sure what's compatible and so forth.

I've never dug into flashing different kernels, could you possibly link me to the appropriate one?

Sideloading with Sideload Wonder Machine has been a breeze, I'm just deciding which music player to use.. and figuring out how to get my paid Titanium Backup without having to download the .apk illegally.

Just sign in with your google account and download from market on wifi... Or if you don't want to use market copy the apk from your other phone through sdcard/dropbox/usb.

Why not just use your Galaxy? I know it doesn't have an SD card, but how much music are you planning on having on there? I've got like 8 gigs and it's hours worth of music. Personally I wouldn't want to carry 2 devices of this size around with me everywhere.

Mostly because I'd like to make use of the broken phone, I don't have to worry about taking care of it as much as I do as my GNex.

I'm not an Apple fan but I love the iPods, I liked carrying around something on me solely for music. I like my GNex for everything else using the battery as much as I want for what I use it for, and I like having the Atrix set up with the tips earlier in this thread and a battery that lasts days and days and days.

I'm at 76% after 1 day 44 minutes use, I love it! I'd be hard pressed carrying around my Nexus that long listening to music.
The fact that 95% of my time lately has been spent travelling on buses, this means I can't always have my GNex on/fully charged. This makes having a separate player extremely useful.

When I flashed Neutrino, I didn't bother flashing Gapps. I guess I could push Market on it's own to have access to Wifi downloads and all with my account but..
Well shoot, I didn't even consider that! As I was typing this I thought a little more clearly, thanks!

Not to bump but share my success.. I haven't bothered with any kernels, but on Neutrino EE I'm at 81.5 hours with 30 percent battery still remaining.

BTW neutrino EE has the stock clocked faux kernel. If you want to improve your battery a little more, pop over to the faux123 kernel thread and download the CM7 version of the newest kernel.

Also, I would go ahead and flash the gapps and install setcpu to underclock when the screen is off.

Lastly, for undervolting, use setcpu again and start off with -50 on each one. If that is stable then try -75 on each and so on and so forth.

If you're looking for a good audio player, you should check out PowerAmp. It is one of the top 10, maybe 5, popular apps on the Market, and for a good reason. It is second to none. The free version is a full featured 30 day trial, so try it out. It costs about $5 for a license, and it's well worth it in my opinion. 10-band equalizer, slick UI, great library management, tagging, FLAC support for high quality audio (sounds AMAZING), stereo widening and bass/treble configuration on top of the equalizer, and so much more. Great support for Bluetooth audio devices too.

Also, just to let you know, you're in luck. There's no better modern phone choice to have for an audio player than the Atrix in my opinion, as it has a medium-low-end Wolfson professional audio chip inside. It may not sound like it with the speaker or some cheap headphones, but if you ever get the chance to get some nice headphones or speakers, then definitely try them out. You'll get the best results with some FLAC audio.

DON'T BUY BEATS, look up reviews! All they're good for is showing off the fact that you bought licensed headphones! You can spend half the money and get way better sound. If you haven't tried a $150+ Sennheiser or related, and have only heard Beats in stores, then you don't know how well it can sound!

Sorry for the rant. I do that when it comes to video games, computers, or especially music. Lol.

Hey good to hear this is working out great for you so far!
81.5 hours with 30 percent battery still remaining.
I don't think my old ipod touch lasted 1/3rd of that time with heavy usage.
When ever I do upgrade next I'm gona snag this idea for a media player aswell.
