Anyone seen a way to use that?
Does your Chromebook report location?
Because when Google announced the Guest Mode they said it would only work based on location. Not sure it that meant need to be in proximity (in range) or if location data actually was the same as far as google is concerned.

It was supposed to display a Pin that you would type into the guest device.

Guest mode for the chromecast is working great for my Android devices. It's the Chromebooks I can't use with guest mode

Well does your chromebook have it's own mobile data?
Most likely is that Chrome Ext needs to be updated to support guest mode and I don't really see them doing it since all Chromebooks usually are WiFi only and would have to connect to the Wireless router to get internet anyway.

I'm only using WiFi. But on schools there are different sub nets and the chromecast is probably not on the same broadcast domain as the chromebook and will not work therefore. Chromecast don't support wpa2 enterprise wich is a probably to but a problem that will be obsolete if the guest mode could work. Guest mode is a possible way around m problem.

I don't think guest mode works over WiFi at all....
Thats because you need the WiFi to be unconnected to anything to use Guest mode. If I'm not mistaken Guest mode makes an Ad Hoc connection just to that device while staying connected to the main router.

If that had been the case. Screen mirroring should have had no problem at all transferring the whole screen. But in fact I know you are wrong. Guest mode uses its own WiFi.

Right it uses it's own WiFi which prevents you from being connected to any others...

Nope that's not the problem.... You can shut of mobile data and still use chromecast guest mode. As long as you have Internet connection some other way... Like a enterprise for example where you probably have multiple subnets. And it's chromebook I'm talking about here. Not android.

Have you any idea what guest mode on the [email protected] work like? Please check it out and come back later and try to understand my question and need
Hi!

Finally, I did 3 tests with success.

I have 3 Android devices :
- Galaxy Note 4 with a Sim card with data plan (Android 4.4.4)
- Galaxy Note 3 without a Sim card, so no data plan (Android 4.4.2)
- Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 edition without a Sim card, so no data plan (Android 4.4.2)

Test 1 : with Galaxy Note 4
The phone is not connected to my wifi home network but the wifi adapter of the phone is on.
I start Youtube and the Cast icon is there.
I press the Cast icon and I get the message saying there is a Nearby chromecast
I press the message and the PIN pairind is done with success.
And I can watch videos from Youtube on my TV.
Bingo!

Test 2 : test with my Galaxy Note 3

Settings of Galaxy Note 4 becoming a Hotspot :
Settings->Tethering and Mobile hotspot->Mobile hotspot set it to on

Settings of Galaxy Note 3 :
The phone is connected to the Hotspot wifi
I start Youtube and the Cast icon is there.
I press the Cast icon and I get the message saying there is a Nearby chromecast
I press the message and the PIN pairind is done with success.
And I can watch videos from Youtube on my TV.
Bingo!

Test 3 : test with my Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 edition

Settings of Galaxy Note 4 becoming a Hotspot :
Settings->Tethering and Mobile hotspot->Mobile hotspot set it to on

Settings of Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 edition
The tablet is connected to the Hotspot wifi
I start Youtube and the Cast icon is there.
I press the Cast icon and I get the message saying there is a Nearby chromecast
I press the message and the PIN pairind is done with success.
And I can watch videos from Youtube on my TV.
Bingo!

Conclusion:
to use Chromecast guest mode, my friend visiting me needs one of these :
- use her/his data plan on her/his phone
- use a wifi that is not my wifi home netwok (for example a Hotspot)

Bonne journée!
