Changelog and useful links on post #2

The link to the HTC drivers isn't valid -- MediaFire gives a message that the file was removed due to a violation. ( ? )
So, is there another link to the drivers?? Thanks.

I'd like to put a response up on how I got my friend's HTC Legend loaded with CWM and subsequently rooted.

Again, this is for an HTC Legend! I don't know if it may or may not be the same for other HTC phones.

I didn't go through and read the whole thread, but when I was searching to a solution to the permissions errors when running supertool I later discovered that with HTC's (relatively new?) bootloader unclocking method (via their HTCdevs website), you can flash the otherwise "S-OFF" Clockwork mod image with no problem via fastboot (again, once *UNLOCKED* through the HTC website). This ultimately makes the Supertool scripts superfluous. Once you have clockwork mod flashed, rooting is simply a matter of flashing a rooted ROM, or root package through CWM.

FOR HTC LEGEND!
It's not as complicated as it once was, needing complex scripts, gold cards, and whatnot.
1. Unlock via HTC website (requires that you flash appropriate RUU image updating hboot, and register and perform other procedures which may void parts of your warranty)
2. Flash the S-OFF CWM Recovery img (not zip!) via fastboot as per instructions (but again, flash the previously denoted "S-OFF" compatible .img recovery onto your now *UNLOCKED* S-ON Legend phone.
*contrary to what it says in the thread, with an *UNLOCKED* S-ON bootloader, it's possible to flash the image, and everything works fine (as best as I can tell, and I don't see why it shouldn't. The zip format was meant to allow you to flash it through the native recovery, because security features were restricting fastboot's access to recovery files; with an unlocked bootloader this is no longer an issue, despite the phone still being S-ON it's unlocked and allows flashing of the recovery files via fastboot.)
3. Flash your desired rooted (or stock) ROM, or root package etc. Anyhow, once you've got CWM Recovery loaded it's just like any other phone...

Thanks frigid for your hard work! Though it seems HTC has become a bit more amicable:)

I have an HTC Hero S, which I've read is the same as the Kingdom and Evo Design, but when I try to root my phone I get completely lost. This is my first time ever doing anything special to my phone, so I'm a pretty massive noob at it. I've unlocked my bootloader using HTCDev already, and in fastboot my phone says *UNLOCKED* and S-ON. I've also used the SuperTool and it flashed saying it rooted (step/option 3), but step/option 4 (sim-unlock, S-OFF, etc.) does not work and tells me to place the bin file HTCDev gave me into the root folder...which I've already done. I downloaded the CWK file but have absolutely no clue what I'm supposed to do with that, either; I don't think it's on my phone and don't know how to put it there. Root checker says my phone isn't rooted, so where I went wrong is beyond my knowledge....maybe someone here could inform me? All help is appreciated! I really would like to root my first phone! :D Thanks ahead of time.

Drivers No Longer Valid?

So I've been searching this thread and I own the EVO Design 4G. I was wanting to utilize this SuperTool however when I try to download the drivers using the provided link the site says the file has been deleted. Any way to be able to get these drivers somehow?

Thank you!

It's kind of hard to follow ... but it looks like unlocking the boot loader and then roooting seems to be the key for some devices...

...Just to see someone admit that anything was "hard" kept me from giving up!:good: I'm trying to unlock my Rhyme & found my way here  I now understand the NOOB video in registration!:silly: I feel like I'm learning a new language! ...ie: "boot loader"(is not a doggie with a vendetta!) & "rooting" (has nothing to do with hair or plants!) So...although your idea of "hard" & mine are probably worlds apart...thanks to you...for now, at least...I'm still here trying, to learn HOW, to free myself, from Telecom servitude!:fingers-crossed:

Hey there, new here, I just unlocked the bootloader on my HTC EVO 3D, and then went to prep it and root it in the HTC Supertools, however I dont know if it was actually rooted or not. I dont see the superuser on my phone. When prepping, i saw that it said adb was out of date, dont know if that stopped it from rooting my phone or not, Also using Windows 8 pro and heard rumors that some features dont work on Windows 8. Is anyone able to help me? Thanks :fingers-crossed:

Sigh... I hate not knowing what I'm doing. I used the 2.1 version to root my phone, and everything seemed to work. Then I did the wireless tether exploit, and the app comes up on my phone. But I can't get it to work. I can get my computer to connect to my phone, but no internet access. Anyone have and suggestions or help? Would the new HTC super tool be of any help to me? Thanks.

Go into the apps settings and enable Routing Fix.
