Hello friends. Ill try to keep it short. Just switched carriers. Wanted to keep my bill low as possible while still keeping unlimited data. Was able to purchase The v20 for $0 down and monthly for about $16. They didnt have the phone in stock. They then up-sold me to the note 8. $100 down payment and $30 a month. Now Im having buyers remorse. Being users of the v20, is the phone worth returning the note 8 for the v20? Thanks for any opinions.

I think Note 8 is the better specially in CPU, RAM and its screen.
About development you will find the Note 8 community is more active than V20.

Two things I don't like in V and Note series is the property feature in Note series the S Pen and the secondary display in V series (except V30), these two features make it difficult to the developers to take advantage of.

So in V30 LG made it easier and it's the right decision from LG.

If you have a choice to LG V30 it would be the best deal.

If you are into switching roms and such i can tell you that there is alot of talk about how alot of the developers that had been using the v20 have left. Not all of them. There is some really great stuff being worked on but most are leaving because root on latest security patches has proven very difficult and not possible yet. Seems they are headed towards. Note 8. I just got the v20 and it's great but then there is the whole development side that's seemingly a bummer at this point. Fyi

Thank you all for the insight. I was in fact about to get the v30 since they didn't have the v20 in stock. I though that if I'm going to spend 800 on the v30, I may as well spend 800 on the note 8. I habe airways like the note series. But my favorite phone was an lg phone. Nexus 5. I appreciate the comments in regards to custom roms because I for sure enjoy flashing. Thanks again.

V20!

So, I don't have the V20... but, my wife's V10 boot-looped. She got the Note 8. I prefer my not-yet-boot-looped-V10. I don't want the Note 8! I'm thinking the V20 over the V30 for a few reasons. I love the top screen always on thing. I also love the square screen... vs rounded corners??? Also, the Samsung infinity screen is gimmicky and pretty pointless. Also, the aspect ratio is weird: tall and narrow???

FWIW, I'm a Verizon customer, so my choice in phones is more limited... but when my phone boot-loops or my contract is up, I'm leaning towards a V20... my wife is definitely not enthralled with her Note 8... Or hopefully, in the next four months, something excitingly usable will come up...

V30 is quite an improvement over the V20, the new bezel less body, makes the hand position far better than the V20 imo

But if you prefer the the removeable battery, gotta go V20

The Note 8 has the better screen (personal choice), and camera but the audio output is subpar.

Do you want ever want to root ( maybe not if you are on Verizon I guess)

Do you need and use the spen? It's an awesome add on, but only if you are going to use it, necessitating the jump in $$$ to Samsung

I have h918 model and I'm inclined to switch because there is no removable battery on the V30 or note 8 and I have a zerolemon battery that definitely is rare these days. and with megarom +xposed this phone is a beast. I would just stick with the note 8 since you already have it but this years flag ships we're a let down. Imo

I have both. I would not return the Note 8 for a V20.

The only thing better about the V20 is the quad DAC and removable battery, but that alone is not enough to go with a far lesser device. The Note 8 is far smoother and more responsive. Battery life on the V20 is sub-par (and that's an understatement). Sure The V20 has a removable battery, but I'd need three to get the battery life I get from my Note 8.

Why do you feel buyers remorse?

Is this sub-par ? I know I've heard the note 8 getting 7hrs+ but I didn't think this phone was sub-par in terms of battery.

Only because I was trying to keep cost to a minimum. The only thing that I really don't like about the note 8, so far, is the long display. I prefer the wider like the earlier gens of note.

If cost is the most important factor the V20 is the obvious choice (if they have it available). Only you knows you situation and can decide that. The Note 8 is an overall superior device though. My be consider something like a G6, it's price has dropped considerable amount and would be a cheaper option on a good device though with the older Snapdragon 821 processor). The V30 is also a nice device, but also more expensive and nearly as much as the Note 8.

When I sent my Note 8 for service to fix the wireless charging I went back to my V20, and noticed the difference.

Also I Note 8 is every so slightly taller than the V20. The V20 is quite tall and wide in comparison. See pic. I wsan't sure how I'd like the new display aspect ratio, but I really like it. I find the phone easier to hold and am far less likely to drop it.

Then I would get a V20. It's hard to find rooted V20's on the used market as most people mistakenly updated to 10q. So be careful, might have to pay a premium for a rooted device.

The Note 8 has the far better screen, the 835 (vs 820) does improve fluidity/game play and battery life. I would NOT get a Tmo Note 8, as the only way to root it, cuts battery life to 80% and no custom roms.

If you go Note 8 gotta go intl version and make sure you have one that oem unlock is available insettings (BIG hassle). But that means you gotta drop $900 cash. OUCH.

If you must go tmo for wifi calling and VOLTE, it's better to spend that $900 for the V30 imo. Doubt you'll ever have root though.

Best best is the G955F s8 plus, for custom ROMs, better screen/processor. I personally hate the form factor though. The sound is average, so you lose that. But you can always just get a dragonfly red and USB dongle for audio, or something larger like a oppo HA-2SE. But who wants to carry two devices...argh

I prefer the V20 for the flat 16/9 screen. I also use the ir blaster all the time.

If you prefer curved screen with skinny 2/1 ratio Note 8 is a much better device.
