What is the difference between US Unlocked 20A and US Unlocked 20E?

Is the E just a newer version? Or are there differences between the two that are hardware/version dependent? I'm thinking it's the former, but wanted to be sure.

So I went ahead and just flashed the 20E version via LGUP on my Sprint LM-V405UA. First tried the Upgrade route. Was confronted by the Secure Startup screen. Went back in and flashed the 20E version using Refurbish. That worked. Now booted into an LG splashscreen instead of a Sprint splashscreen. So I think it took.

How can I tell for sure? Is there something in the About Phone section that will tell me I've crossflashed successfully?

Anything Sprint that your Gmail doesn't carry over will be gone but as a bonus PRL and Profile update will still be there

Hi. I just got a V40 LMV405QA (lmv405qa) new in the box. It was made in 7/2019 and has Pie installed. Anyone know if there is a way to downgrade to Oreo and, if so, how to do it and where to get the firmware? Thanks

Hi, I got ATT v405ua10d, I was trying to unlock the bootloader and now I'm stuck in bootloop do you have any firmware which I can flash on it for ATT staying with Oreo?

I actually followed your other post here https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-v40/how-to/guide-lgup-root-t3967858
Crossflashed to US Unloked V405QA7 firmware. I got better reception and Wifi-calling. And no AT&T bloatware. Now I want to root but I am afraid I might brick the phone again.
Congrats on the successful cross-flash. I personally would not have a device without root. And there is plenty of evidence here that unless you have a T-Mobile model, you can indeed root this phone. For me it wasn't easy but I managed with help on XDA. I do not think the risk of bricking is high. But I am just wondering which specific device model you have and what carrier you use? I have the 405qa with 20e firmware, root, TWRP, etc on a virtual carrier that uses ATT under the covers. I cannot get wifi calling to be provisioned on the phone - even though the virtual carrier tells me they have "enabled it". From what I have been able to find, it seems like ATT simply will NOT permit wifi calling on unlocked, un-branded devices like mine. I am guessing that during "provisioning" the model number of the phone is sent to the carrier. And it seems that if ATT sees 405QA, they will not permit wifi-calling. It does seem that the 405UA is supported. Given the same hardware and virtually the same firmware, I don't understand why this is - except that ATT is a PIA. Cheers

I concur with @whitedavidp.

The biggest rooting issues I see from US users are:

1) Not knowing which slot you are working from. Best to work from Slot A. How do you get to Slot A? See 2)
2) Oreo vs Pie. Don't root in Oreo. Root in Pie. Use download mode and LGUP to crossflash (unless you have a v405TA. If you do, just stop.) to V405QA (US unlocked) Pie. It gets you to the latest security release available for our phones, frees up a lot more bands, and resets things to Slot A.
3) Don't nuke your laf partitions unless you really, really, really know what you are doing. Because once your laf partitions are nuked, you lose download mode. With download mode, you can always start over with a fresh KDZ if your rooting attempt goes sideways. Mine did. Several times. Download mode got me back to square one to start over and try again.
4) Be careful with LGUP. If you futz around with any of the other settings beside Update, Refurbish, and Partition DL, you could be in for a world of hurt.

Give yourself an afternoon, and have at it!

My carrier is T-Mobile. I got a new sim unlocked ATT LM-V405UA which came with V405UA20o firmware and pie on it, there was no VoLTE and Wifi-Calling was grayed out. I called T-Mobile and they told me that it was enabled on my account, but my phone didn't support it. I think if you are sure ATT supports it then why not crossflash to US Cellular V405UA https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-v40/development/v40-firmware-links-ainzooalgown-t3940600

Anyways I can't use a phone without root either. I tried to get root, but when I got to the last steps, the instructions said V35 Engineering bootloader is OREO only. So I was stuck in bootloop for a few days.
After a little research I flashed it to US Unlocked 20e 405QA, and was able to get VoLTE, Wifi-calling, and more bands. I am using it now with no issues at all. But I still get that error message at boot telling me "Your device software cannot be checked for corruption .... lock the bootloader blah blah" but the phone boots up afterwards.
Ultimately I just want root, don't really care too much about ROM, I have LOS on my other phone. I just don't want to lose fastboot again but I will give it another shot whenever I have time to do a little more research.

You'll always have that error at bootup with an unlocked bootloader. And since your bootloader is unlocked, rooting is the logical next step!
