The order is remote.cfg, remote.tab1, remote.tab2, remote.tab3. you only need to either delete remote.tab1 and replace with your own or just replace and overwrite. I'm thinking your remote file need to be edited. In my case, my remote file didn't work at first, I had to send it to atvx4 forum and they edited it for me that's when my remote file start working. My remote factory code was 0x79840001 but was edited to 0x7984.

I have rooted my box, copied a working remote.conf (saved as remote.tab1) to the correct folder, but it doesn't seem to work. i even tried truncating the remote code as you did and still no go. Did they change anything else in your remote file? (Do you mind sharing your file?)

In case it can help, these are the main changes I've made from remote.conf to remote.tab1:

factory_code = 0xYYYY0001
replaced with
custom_code = 0xYYYY
and
left_key_scancode
right_key_scancode
up_key_scancode
down_key_scancode
ok_key_scancode
replaced with
cursor_left_scancode
cursor_right_scancode
cursor_up_scancode
cursor_down_scancode
cursor_ok_scancode

Not 100% sure if your chip works in 9, it does in android 7 rom

Can't be done easily
And not possible to disable update notification without hurting Google services, update due soon

not possible to upgrade from android 6/7 to 8/9, partition changes are needed between versions

Only real option is USB Burning tool

I was thinking to update to mi box 4k.
But after using this my older device is working strong too.
Now I can watch 4k on s905w without any issues.

i actually have a stock F30UP firmware and can try a port using that DTB and vendor ect

I've opened the stock and your's Android TV 9 Universal RTL & BCM images and saw that the files in vendor/etc/wifi from stock are also present in your rom.

Below files are a bit different in both roms, tried to repack with the stock files but the tool failed to repack the vendor folder.
- vendor\etc\init\hw\init.amlogic.wifi_buildin.rc
- vendor\etc\init\hw\init.amlogic.wifi.rc

try only level 1 unpack and take my system.partition & logo.partition files and replace in stock f30up firmware, see if that boots (i assume your using rickys tool v7.1? as this wont unpack further)
